Nice to see them using big boy words like SUCK

EA talk total rubbish, they are now a lazy 3rd grade developer that makes lousy games for maximum profit, most developers now are getting the hang of coding for the PS3 and even Ubisoft went on record as saying it was no more difficult to dev for the PS3 than the 360 (cue GRAW2) and that EA were mad in complaining that it was impossible to make the games equally as good.

Every PS3 owner should boycot EA (not like that will be hard!) so they can go and make their money elsewhere. Buy proper games from every other developer especially first party who don't seem to have any problems and are set to release a cracking lineup of games....

I just cant believe the stupidity!

Robin

If this is true EA sure made an ass out them selves by admitting taking there complete 360 designed code and porting it and it not turning out so great.. And comparing the port process to PS2>Xbox is even funnier. These jack AZZes should have started with PS3 in the first place, It wasn't Xbox>PS2. PS2 development took a while to iron the Kinks out. NASCAR 08 sucked on both systems.
....but we really don’t have the time to mess with how the PS3 works to really add to much more...

Ok so clearly its EA's fault not Sony if they have deadlines to worry about instead of making a quality game work well on a different system.. They just aren't utilizing the system, that explains Madden 08.
TIBURON Sucks not Sony's tools.
There support is another story

I don't know why people keep buying their games. They had maybe one or two good titles, not great, in the last few years.

They're history, and I knew they would be history by the way they treated their employees several years ago.

It's not hard for me to boycott EA games, Soccer is the only sport game I like to play, and Konami's PES/WE already had me covered. Medal of honor and Burnout also aren't must have games for me.

C'mon. That's definitely not Sony's fault. Other developers prove that it's possible to program nice looking games for the PS3!

EA wants to program a game on a certain system (in the interview Xbox360) and port them to all other possible systems (Nintendo, Sony, Xbox, Mobile Phones xD) just to make a lot of money, disregarding the quality of their ports. That's what I read out of the interview and I really don't like and approve that!
But Burnout is looking too good to ignore, too bad Criterion has been integrated to EA. Like many other wonderful developers. (i.E. Maxis)

Ridiculous. That just screams out lazy to me. It also just goes to show how much EA really (don't) care about the people playing their games. Rather than spending a little bit more time on a game so it's a better end product on release date, and giving the user a better quality game, they're more worried about releasing it on time and looking after themselves in the process.

This is why they lag behind everyone else development-wise, and the only reason they're still doing well is because they're well-known and on the cover of it all, their games appeal to the lesser-educated.

This being said, I am a big fan of the FIFA series (unlike the majority who prefer Pro Evo) for different reasons, however I'm worried about how that's going to turn out for the PS3 after that press-release.

" but we really don’t have the time to mess with how the PS3 works to really add to much more." So hurry is huge for big money.

There has to be something bigger than bad development tools. EA is the largest publisher, how come smaller guys make so much better ps3 games?
And now they are saying ps3 can't run car games :)

That was a mature speech. He could have called the software "flawed" or "difficult to work with" but no. "suck" EA, EA, EA...
EA
we really don’t have the time to mess with how the PS3 works to really add to much more.
Sorry, bud, that's your job. I don't think Sony gives a crap if some third party says their console "sucks". What happens is that noone buys the game, and their buisiness on that one console dies.
I still couldn't think of anything easier than boycotting EA, at least for me. Want their really good games? Buy Most Wanted, Madden 07, Call of Duty 3, and stick with that. The games are so similar I don't see myself running out to the store every year.
Also EA don't care obviously. They can make Madden 08 by adding all the new players and trades and fix nothing else, and still get away with it, selling like hotcakes.
And that proves EA is a hardworking 3rd-party and has the right to complain.

That was a funny & sad read, thanks DWA for finding that. 👍

A video demo of the PS3 edition of FIFA 08 was apparently shown at GC and got a lot of positive feedback. GameTrailers has the "Signture Skill Moves" Trailer which was also for the PS3 and shown at GC.

GameTrailers also just posted two new video clips of FIFA 08 from GC with some nice display of new features:

EDIT: After watching these videos, especially the intro from the developer of FIFA 08 from EA, one must now really wonder if it's even EA at fault, or just Tiburon trying desperately to save face for the lousy job he is doing compared to even other developers at EA?

Seriously though, here is one EA developer who apparently seems quite excited about developing on the PS3 and was all too happy to show the results. :)

Half of EA are just slackers, because remember the people working on Fifa 08 said the PS3 version will be running at 60 frames per second. But I also think EA needs to look towards games like:

KillZone 2
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction

And many other titles.

WTF?!

What about ARMY OF TWO? Or the rumored Dead Space? EA is making a more concerted effort to make original IPs, you have to admit! That statement was wrong and without merit! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a EA fanboy. I'm just saying that you're wrong to make a statement like that when EA is making more of an effort to make quality, original IPs.

Next time, stop and think before you type.

It would be comforting to think that EA is eating meatloaf, right now, but something tells me they aren't. Their stock price hasn't gone anywhere for four years, either.

PERIOD ENDING - Net Income (thousands)

31-Mar-06 - 236,000
31-Mar-05 - 504,000

Undeniably true when it comes to developing games for sports they have the EXCLUSIVE rights to! That said, i think EA is composed of a bunch of slackers who don't care about quality because they don't have anybody to challenge them. But i am still excited for Army of Two and i think they might actually try on this one because they sure as hell don't have rights to be the only dev making FPS titles! All in all, EA has definitely dropped in my opinion because i didn't buy a ps3 to play crappy 360 ports...

Army of Two looks like typical ea crap... So many things will EASILY beat it. Oh yeah butt butt... They "focus" on Co-op.... Wupp dee flogging doo...

No prob, I wanted to help out EA with the announcement anyway.

EA talk total rubbish, they are now a lazy 3rd grade developer that makes lousy games for maximum profit,

EA Sports, yes. Everything else? Hell no. Army of Two looks very interesting, Skate made Tony Hawk obsolete to me in every single way, Battlefield: Bad Company looks to be terrific, Burnout Paradise is going to be spectacular, and even the next Medal of Honor had good effort put into it (though odd shooting mechanics, being a WWII game, and Call of Duty 4 coming out soon is what's screwing it over). As for stuff they publish, there's Crysis, Rock Band, and Orange Box.

So while you can slam most of their EA Sports division for being lazy, crap, underfunded, etc, you can't lay a blanket statement on them like that with them developing or publishing the games I mentioned above.

Year to year games like Need for Speed(No replays in last 2 games) and Ea Sports are very slow to evolve.

I am disappointed in EA (not that I have expected much from them over the past year or so). Smaller companies are putting out better looking games for PS3 and that makes EA look even worse. I usually don't buy any EA games but I did buy Tiger Woods 08 and I am impressed, graphics look awesome. Then again, it is hard to mess up golf.

very true... but i still think the EA sports division should get smacked for the games they put out. Think, if you were an employer, and one of your employees keeps making crappy products, you'd tell them to clean their act up and work harder!

For the same reason why so many people have used Windows and Explorer for so many years?

After all, one must consider the fact that by having exclusive licenses, fans of those types of games have few other choices.

In addition, I suggest another reason is because as Evan said, not all games from EA "suck so bad".

I never liked EA sports.
But i'm definitely looking forward to Spore!!!

I'm also a fan of medal of honor, so i'm interested in that one too.

First of all its not out yet so save you judgment for when you see it really running on the PS3, I was looking forward to it as well but I seriously doubt it will be great on PS3 seeing the current trend of EA ports. As for original its not really that amazing, its co op and they make cheap jokes, thats about it!

Im sorry but you do come across slightly fanboyish. Take a look around, you can gauge the general mood about EA throughout this thread and nearly all over the net however you are entitled to your opinion and so am I. As for thinking before I type, I do and I stand by what I say, please don't tell me how to talk on a forum with 9 posts to your name ok, especially if you are going to say in that sort of tone.

I agree, for most titles especially sports ones they don't bother because of exclusive rights. As was said they will have a harder time in the FPS market so they may try abit harder. Nothing so far is worth purchasing from EA on the PS3 in my opinion...

If thats all they are offering then I agree its not original.

DWA
got a stupid question... If everyone knows they suck so bad, wtf are they still around?

Because of mainly normal casual gaming people who don't even know the meaning of next gen, 1080p or HDMI! They like a certain sport for example and buy the game... they don't read into it as much as we do...

Bottom line, EA dont try with the PS3, this is what the thread title was about and I totally agree, its not so much that they don't make good games, its that they don't make good games for PS3...full stop!

Robin

Well I think there are exceptions even among EA developers... just watch that FIFA 08 developer footage linked earlier in this thread. Clearly at least he seemed genuinely impressed with the results he had with programming FIFA 08 for the PS3. Heck, I'm not even a fan of "Soccer" video games, and even I was quite impressed by that demonstration.

Funnily enough yes, Fifa has always been quite impressive, the last one I bought (world cup 2006) was really good on PS2... Like others have said I don't tend to think of the developers of Fifa following the usual trend that EA sets (they act independantly) and their trying harder may be party to do with the strong presence of the hugely popular Pro Evo that they have to battle with every year!... Sure, they have all the official names and shirts but they know they have to keep up with PES' realism. We will have to see if 08 on PS3 delivers in the end or not when the reviews start coming in, some games look great in previews and early hype but in the end they may fall short.

However when EA develop in an area they has exclusive rights to like nascar, rugby even harry potter etc the outcomes tend to be far worse. There is no reason why its harder to dev on PS3 or why the games should function or look worse. Even Ubisoft have gone so far as to make Haze PS3 exclusive because they find it the best system to dev for, totally contradicting what EA says.

Because they buy stuff up that people like, and then slowly ruin it.

They aren't all bad. Take the Sim series for example. Will Wright knows what he is doing and makes great games. The Sims has long been a great PC game (although I can't get into Sims 2), Sim City is looking to be better than ever with a more in-depth play for Sim City 5, and Spore. If Spore is everything they promise it should be awesome.

EA has good titles under their belt, but their sports division seems to be struggling a bit with laziness for the most part. Overall I can't honestly say I am looking forward to any of their future games aside from Spore and Sim City 5 (which I will only be able to play if it's on consoles as my PC is old).

Part of the problem is that this developer is not named and he doesn't say he speaks for EA. Despite how the article presents him it is just one guy complaining. I work with a lot of people that complain too, and oddly enough most of them are not the best employees. To me this sounds more like a developer who doesn't understand the PS3 and refuses to admit that it may be himself. If other guys within EA can do it then there is no reason why this guy can't. If the next-gen system confuses him and he is unable to adapt then perhaps he should find a new job.

But i'm definitely looking forward to Spore!!!
I think it is too easy to forget that anything Will Wright puts out is EA. No one attributes The Sims or Sim City to EA, they attribute it to Will Wright, and once again Spore will be called Will Wright's Spore, or Spore, the brainchild of Will Wright.

Of course, since the story goes that Will Wright had to fight EA to let him create The Sims one has to wonder where EA would be if they hadn't bought Maxis.

Excellent points, and none that I would disagree with.

Yeah, really. A BioWare RPG in the Harry Potter universe would be absolutely spectacular, yet those damn exclusive rights...

Also as an FYI, Haze is coming to 360 and PC next year. Free Radical is also making it (Ubisoft is just publishing it), so it's not like it was an in-house decision.

Anyway... since we're bashing EA Sports I guess I be fanning the flames.

Robin posted a link to the following article in TVR's Haze thread:

Haze PC and 360 Drop off the Map
Ubisoft confirms that only the PS3 version of futuristic FPS is currently in development, no plans to bring it to any other platforms.
Posted Aug 31, 2007 4:00 am PT By Emma Boyes, GameSpot UK
Ubisoft has told GameSpot that First Radical's sci-fi first-person shooter Haze is now being planned solely for Sony's PlayStation 3 platform.

Originally, Haze was slated as a multiplatform release for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 this spring. However, in May, Ubisoft announced that the PS3 had become the "lead platform" for the title and that the game would be released in November only for the PS3. At that time, Ubisoft noted that "no exclusivity for any platform has been officially announced."

Today, Ubisoft amended its statement, saying that currently only the PS3 version of Free Radical's shooter is in development. The France-based publisher also noted that it was still leaving the door open in the future for "new partnerships," but currently the game is indeed only planned for the PS3. A spokesperson said, "The official statement on PC and Xbox 360 is that these platforms are not confirmed."

The Web sites of both Free Radical and the official Haze site now only list the PS3 version of the game.
So it looks like it went from Multi-platform release, to PS3 Timed Excluse, to PS3 Exclusive.

Of course at least that one of the spokesman left a crack in the door with "The official statement on PC and Xbox 360 is that these platforms are not confirmed." ... but for now I think its reasonable to say Haze is a PS3 exclusive until the next announcement. :)
