Fuji 750pp:
Freerun: 1:39xxx
Online: 1.35xxx (last postition, about 30 secs. behind the leader)

Dunno how you came to the conclusion, there`s less rubberband/boost

edit* looks more like a boost to me... đź’ˇ

I rarely run in last position to measure that. You are providing results from a worst case set up where you're in last position and 30 secs behind to reveal the rubberband effect at it's max. There's no doubt there, it's present.

The case I describe is if you find your self in the front leading the race and battling it out with other fast drivers, you'll still remain tight with those batch of drivers and the rest of the grid does not get rubberbanded up to you.

It would be awesome in a future update to have a GTP only room where you must register your ID to be able to get in. So than every race should be a fun one.

I have yet to race you online BreakerOhio, but I am sure you will whoop my butt.

I think the reason private rooms is not here is because it would decrease the number of participants in the online events. The game is still early for private rooms, but it's getting there.
At that point, I say just bring back LAN mode too. So we can network at home or tunnel our networks and play at home or through xlink LAN like before in GT4.

I've raced some GTP_ members here, don't see too many often though, but when I do they are good races.
I'm on after working hours Eastern Time usually on Fuji or Suzuka Pro events.

Yes what I described is the worst case, it was only to show/ test the rubberband .

My problem is that Im probably not as good as you are and I usually let the fastest guys pass me and then try to keep up with them, but thats when the RBE comes in and all noobs and punters destroying my race entirely in most cases.

Before this update I didnt have this problem I could keep up with the fast drivers just well, but then the boost was more like 2 seconds per lap and not 4 like now...
btw think I raced you once, back in Spec I version on Suzuka . You spun out at the exit of the hairpin with your F40 , I`ll always remember it looked so cool lol 👍

I'm wondering where all the "We/they paid for this game too so we/they have a right to jump straight into online play and screw your race up" guys are at?

In real life you have to pass tests to prove your are capable of racing, and at times drivers, even at the level of F1 and NASCAR, have lost their privledge of racing due to poor driving. So no, you do not have a automatic right to race vs real people just because you have the equipment to.

So you do drive. if your karting and consider yourself as very competitive, then you have experience of driving competitively while karting, which in turn, would heighten your skill level at racing sims. :)

That is true to a degree... thing is with karting Im not a regular, its a once in a while thing, but your right in this case because of this I have experienced competitive racing and it does transfer to the racing sim... its just when I get in one of those karts I get into that race mode.. :P

Earth, unfortunately your opening sentence is exactly why they do have a right to come and screw your race up. Everyone has spent their hard earned pennies on buying a copy of this game, which gives everyone an automatic license to do whatever they want, like it or not. It's the exact opposite of a race license. They'll always be here, unfortunately it's a case of put up or shut up or don't play online until private lobbies arrive.

So private races it is then, with the option of booting the tools out. :)

Guess what, this is not real life. ;) It's a game. It's a simulation game, but a game nonetheless. People expect to have fun, not do chores. There's plenty of chores in real life. ;) Some of us will play this at the hardcore level and some of us will play it at a more arcadish level. And some of the 'new' people or bad racers will want to race on expert level and I don't really see the problem, because there is a very simple solution (already stated by several people, in and outside of this thread): private rooms.

You can race with the people you want to race and play by the rules you define yourself. And the public rooms are for all the people who want to try it out. You can stay quite happily in your private room while all the inexperienced racers duke it out online, even using pro settings, in the public rooms. Explain to me how this could be bothering you? Because really, it can't! (Or at least shouldn't ;)) You happy, the noobs happy, crappy drivers happy, expert drivers happy, everybody happy. :)

I do feel there should be a racing school in GT5, and perhaps some of the basic skills could be mandatory, but the way they have implemented things right now blow hard, because it is teaching the wrong things.

GT5P (or any console/pc driving game) isn't real life, you do know this yeah?

yes, the punters are a pain. but as has been mentioned before, private rooms will sort it

till then, take a chill pill and deal with it :D

I agree with you, Breaker, because I've only been racing online for three days now and I'm already very angry that I'm stuck racing people who either don't know or refuse to drive fairly and properly. I don't mind their age or location, but if they'll follow the unwritten rules of racing then I'll be happy to race them. I try my best to avoid collisions and give others room, and there's been many time I've given up positions because the other person simply drove better than me. It's not that hard to drive right.

But, I've thought of a modification to your idea. Instead of blocking out all PRO events until they pass some sort of test, it might be a good idea to simply make another section of PRO events for people who have passed the test. That way drivers who are learning Professional physics have a place to do so with other drivers, and when they pass some sort of test they'll get access to the locked PRO section which (theoretically) would be where drivers like myself, who want fair and strong competition, would spend their time.

I'm sure there were very few if any hack drivers who passed the GT Academy events. I don't see why the drivers worthy of such an event are forced to struggle against bangers and crashers who refuse to concede a position to a better driver and faster car.

The initial GT:HD had a list of on-line features that included Licences.

If the future of GT5 includes meaningful, separate on-line Licences, too, that can't be transferred and are restricted to one console only, that will help cut down on the players who use someone else's game save to help them get into races for which they have little qualification. (It won't solve all on-line problems, though, and I doubt this idea will ever be enacted.) The separate on-line/off-line Licences will allow trading game saves for the off-line mode.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Do we all agree here, that idiots who are hell-bent on ruining online races, are always going to exist, so no matter how you want to implement off or online licence tests, the idiots will get round it one way or another. So as has been said by many people before, the way to deal with it is private races. That way, if a punter wants to start wrecking people, just ban them from the room.

Private rooms are certainly the answer. Making room passwords optional is also a good idea, but that's probably elementary anyway.

Sure, passwords are a good addition to private races. 👍

I'd like to share my thoughts on this...

First, the bad stuff...

Private Rooms: Very fun for this community, but very sad for the solo players who want to enjoy good racing, are good, but are not necessarily part of "this" or "another" community forum. Furthermore, it doesn't "promote" the community and only "fractions it". Dividing players and excluding players is not the way to make this game/sport more popular and more fun. but Hey, if you guys always want to race with the same 200 people... go for it.

Test Licenses: I'm very sorry, but as a game perspective, i hate it and i think it servers more to teach the player wrongly about what the game is about. Players want to play, not go through 100 testes before they can have fun. Yes, there is a difference, but GT's tests, especially GT5p's are pretty bad, as they literally tell "average" players that they suck and can't have fun like "the big boys". I'm all for "tutorials" that show and explain and let the player practice certain aspects of racing, but not the way its done with GT5p. LiveForSpeed or Burns Rally are better examples, if again, rather flawed. The overall problem is, most players aim for the "bronze" as quickly as possible, just so they can get access to whatever else is after that... its call "advancement" (even tho in this case, the term can be a bit misinterpreted i agree) and unfortunately, it only promotes more "punters"... because to be honest, that's really the best way to go about the "licenses".

Now the good...

I've just recently been introduced to "iracing.com" and although i'm not part of the community and am having a hard time seeing the point in paying 20$ a month for poor graphics and questionable content... their "community" system is very well though of. Basically it goes like this:

Every time you race "online", whether its in free race (time trials..) or during actual races with other players, you get a "rating". The more you race clean, the less contact, the less penalties, the less cheating (detectable of course) the higher your rating... so lets say the rating starts at zero(0) and goes up to 5.0.... having racers in the "4.0+" is a feat... I can easily see players such as Breaker in there. The trick tho, is that this system is PERMANENT. It's based on a Persistent system that keeps track of the player's record. Every penality and every offense are recorded and kept "to file". In other words, a very good player that "endangers" other players while being involved in a big crash will lose rating... as well as players who keep cutting "turn 4"... they get a yellow flag, then a black flag and lose big rating scores.

This system is brilliant because it forces players to be in their best behavior at all times... everytime... so losers who like to punt hard, cut corners and whatnot will always have a rating of 1.0... and won't have access to the higher rating race events.

Mind you, iracing.com has a good system, but their intension is a bit flawed (stupidly expensive pricetag for content)... but on a game like GT5... if they would decide to keep a good community service (more then leaderboards)... it would make for a hell of a good racing experience.

so there, those are my thoughts.

Cheers,

I think you maybe thinking were coming accross as elitist. Thats not the case. I would be more than happy to have solo players in a private race that I was hosting, as long as they race clean and fair - but if some guy wants to start acting up and punting people around, then i'd ban him from my room, then he can chance he's arm somewhere else. the sensible thing to do, would be to get yourself recognised as a clean racer. I don't wear a GTP tag, but I race as clean as those guys do. don't punt people off and you've got no worries.

What kind of private rooms do you think we will get, open rooms were you can search for rooms like on forza or invite only rooms.

That pretty much sums it up !!!!!!!!! Well said 👍

I would say open rooms where anyone can enter, but also password locked rooms where guys just wan't to race with people from their friends lists.

EDIT: When I say open rooms, I mean they are set up to the hosts own race requirements.

Decided to pull this thought out of a thread I put this in and get some feedback on this idea.

Earning your right to race...if there is an online career mode. You cannot compete in PRO online events until you have proved yourself. It can be an online single career mode or what ever...but after you have proved that you qualify in a PRO event, then you can unlock it. Have it linked to our PS3 User ID rather than our game save.

Just like quick tune option was not unlockable until you completed the missions.

My theory with this with the availablity of the game saves....many of the players have not gone through the trials and training that will get them ready for racing in GT. They just get a game save somewhere online and jump straight into it. Thus the maddness...
They drive ferraris, corvettes, high horse power cars they are unprepared for. They complain it's uncontrollable....yet they didn't start off with a fresh game to begin with a slower car to teach them car control...

Why do you think the F1 cost 2million dollars?
Because you have to earn it. The amount of seat time you put into earn those credits will prepare you for driving the F1. Part of the reason why I think it was so expensive. Goes back to the game save theory again. This ability to quickly find a save is like our fast food society. It's fast and quick, but the quality sucks because it's cheap.

The good racers online I'll bet most of them are vetrans and played through all the missions. The jokers and punters...I'll bet are those that just found a game save so they could jump online and race like idiots.

So if they make it just like how you have to complete the missions to earn the right to Quick Tune, make it the same for Online events. You have to complete some tests. No game saves can save you from this...it's tied to your PS3 ID.

Just a thought.

I started a similar thread referring to a new MMORG (Massive Multiplayer Online Racing Game) that has a built in Safety Rating and I think it has another rating system. AIUT, your SR and other rating increase as you conduct clean races, clean laps, clean time trials. AIUT, you join a get a couple of less powerful cars. Once your safety rating reaches a certain level you get access to more powerful cars and other tracks. From what I have read from the players this system is a bit harsh, but it makes for excellent, close and clean races!
I'll punt my thread up so you can find it.

Which is the case in many games, you have the choice of creating a room with or without a password and the person who created the room is 'admin' of that room, so he can kick people he doesn't want in there.

I really like the open aspect of it, because I wouldn't mind playing with some inexperienced players and teach them how to race fair. But you really need the ability to kick someone if they're proving to be an ass.

It's a bit like a clanserver for a PC FPS. Anyone can drop in and play at will, but if you violate the clan's rules you will be kicked. Or when the server is full and clanmembers want to play, they have the ability to kick someone so they can join.

I like this system a lot more and it's way more friendly than blocking people beforehand. Just because someone is new doesn't mean they can't be fun to race with. ;)

Good concept. Licencing wouldn't make much difference. It's a matter of trial and error. If someone proves themselves as a good clean racer, people will remember them and invite them to races, whereas the constant idiots will get recognised and booted.

goedemorgen@NLxAROSA,agree 100% with you there man, that would be the perfect solution...!!

spyrrari.

That's why we have the 'players met' list. What I would really like to see is complete integration of that list into GT5 and other games. So if I want to invite someone in a room I just created, I can pick from either my friends list or I can pick someone from the 'players met' list.

mĂ´guh. ;)

Actually, this solution is quite common for a lot of pc games. I feel a community can set the rules for itself, we don't need the game to do it for us. :)

It's much more flexible that way. If you only want to race experienced players or your friends, it's possible. But it's also possible for anyone to get a taste of what is possible at the most realistic settings. I can even imagine having 'teaching class rooms' where experienced players teach inexperienced players how to race fair using pro settings. :) That's a more positive approach than locking parts of the game. And (correct me if I wrong) it's also more along the line of the GTP philosophy: anyone is welcome, inexperienced or experienced, as long as they play fair.

NLxAROSA you hit the nail on the head by comparing it to a FPS. I am a HUGE HUGE fps nut. I used to play Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike Source and just about every other FPS online game ever made to no end. Believe it or not it is very easy to compare them to as far as online rooms, private rooms, admins, dirty players, cheaters, passwords. etc etc. Let me start with the one people are not to sure about

1) Private rooms- Private rooms in an FPS are basically the difference between a public room hosted by the game company, and a private room hosted by the player. The ones hosted by the game company are usually a generic, common map, common weapon selection, set time limit, set objective. The DIFFERENCE between the two is you can CUSTOMIZE in a private room. I will do a comparison to GTA now. Say you wanted to have a BMW race. You would have tohe option that when someone enters your room they have to pick a BMW to drive. You would also have further customization as to what track you wanted to race, the number of laps, TIRE SELECTION etc. etc.

2) ADMINS. What is an admin you ask? Well I know for a fact there are admins on this very forum! I received a warning from an admin for using a $ in the middle of a curse word. In most halfway decent online games admins are a MUST! They enforce the rules of the server, make rulings on grey area, and make sure everyone is playing fair. Some dooosh is driving backwards around the course? Bye Bye. Someone keeps ramming you from behind? Send the admin a message, they spectate said doosh for a while, then BYE BYE.

3) Dirty players, cheaters and passwords. Dirty players exist in EVERY game in one way or another. Cheaters are the equivalent of wall riders and chicane cutters in GT 5P. There IS a way to prevent them from doing what they do. Not with some extensive point docking system that spreads across every little dent and ding into a - or + system, it is SO much easier than that. ADMINS, and private servers. Adding a Password feature is a GREAT idea. You guys want leagues? You want to have Seasons that people won't jump in the middle of and ruin your points standings? PASSWORDS are the answer! You want to have a Euro tuner marathon? You want to have a GTPlanet race day? SWEET send the password to all members. What you guys are failing to see is passwords are not used as much as you might think. Admins and private rooms are SO much more important than passwords. If they fail to introduce the option of custom rooms, or admin status this game isn't going to be that much fun online, I can ASSURE you after playing many years of online shooters it is horrendous when you leave it up to the individual to have an honor system.

The only other way is dedicated servers, but dedicated servers can't boot punters, I remember when Socom first went online on the PS2, If anyone started team killing or generally acting a fool, it worked on a voting system, majority vote and you got booted from the room. Maybe introduce that kind of system.

Voting system is a pretty good idea. It would be cool to add in. If they do not give you the option to have an admin then it would be a way for everyone to admin. I still think the online portion of this game is going to be either a make it or break it private rooms or no private rooms. Customization means SO much to people in games, do these guys not see that?

Actually, I want private rooms and mic chat. People do have the right to defend themselves, and mic's are the easiest and quickest way to apologise for/explain an in-race mistake. Also removes a certain anonymity when you have to answer for your actions on air. IMO the silence is a big part of the problem at the moment. Private rooms must be on their way soon I guess, why else have the recently implemented facility to add friends met when you can't choose to race against them (he says fingers crossed)?
