I honestly hope this "Radiant AI" is all it's cracked up to be, I don't want it to turn up like the GT4 AI..

There is no way the Radiant AI will be anything like GT4 AI, they spent more than 5 minutes making it I'm sure ;)

P.S. I've been following the Elder Scrolls for years, and Oblivion since announced in '04. I can't believe it's only days away until I get my hands on this, this game should be awesome, but it will most likely kick my computers ass, I need some more RAM.

I've picked it up, but haven't had a chance to play it yet since I'm still at school yet. I hope to play it later on tonight. I can't seem to find any reviews yet considering it has just been released. If anyone finds one, post it?

cool i'm wondering if my pc can run the game with HDR. it might be the hdr (openExR) that my video card (x800gto) doesnt support. the game looks amazing.

...it. Well I picked it up tonight. So far it has captivated my attention which is a good thing. I look forward to spending some more time on this game, the interface is a little funky, but it will get easier as time progresses.

Have fun!

Well, I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed by Oblivion. The graphics are amazing... I've got it decked out at 1280x1024 (because I can't stand 1024x768 anymore) and the framerates are smooth except for the occasional hiccup. My only gripe is the game doesn't support HDR and AA at the same time (nor will it let me enable HDR even though my card does support it).

I'm not very far into the story yet but it seems like it's going to be a long lasting game.

Sorry, couldn't figure out how to take screen shots. I guess I can edit the ini and the printscrn button works for screen shots.

There are two places you must enable the printscreen setting. The first is in your [Oblivion install directory]\Oblivion_default.ini and the second is in your \My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini file. Once I added the

bAllowScreenShot=1

to both files I was able to take screenshots with out issue.
I'll try it tonight and post what I can.

I am currently running it at 1600x1200 with HDR enabled and every except "Self Character Shadows" are on. The self shadows get annoying after a while, but the shadows on the ground are not affected. I must say, this game looks beautiful! Less hazy then Morrowind was (from what I can remember) and you can really tell they spent some time on the character models. Game play's getting pretty fun and leveling up seems faster than Morrowind.

Pako,

Have you had any problems with the game crashing after extended sessions of play? The game has locked up my computer twice after playing several hours when I try to exit the program. It's really odd.

So far the games ran totally solid with the exception of exiting out. When ever I quite the game and it goes back to the desktop it error's out and want's to send an error report. Not a big issure for me as I was getting out of the game anyways. I have heard of people having some issues though on the elders scroll forums.....

Well UK buddys, we should get it tomorrow, Ive got myself a new card to play it on (7800 gt EE, christ its fast), so Im looking forwards to it!

What's crap though, is Im working 9 till 5 tomorrow when the game arrives, then I have to go the gym, so I'm not gonna be playing it till late :( BAH!

Oh man, that is crap. :) It will be there when you get a chance..., there's always skipping work, and not working out.

Well, I had found a tweaking guide over at the Elder Scrolls Forum, but now I've lost it. Those forums could possibly be the worst forums I've ever browsed... Multiple identical thread topics all over the place... Ick. It makes me glad I'm a member of GTP instead.

If I ever find it, I'll post it.

EDIT: Make sure you defrag your harddrive immediately after installing the game. My harddrive was 36% fragmented after the install.

Double EDIT: I think I've found something similar to what I initially found this afternoon...

Wow Pako you play at 1600x1200 ?!

I play at 640x480 on my TV :P I only have an old Radeon X550, so I put res low and everything else high.

I just got the game today. Just played for like 5 mins now, holy moly is all I have to say so far.

Good bye social life indeed. Now I not only have Guild Wars and Call of Duty 2 to play, but this as well??

Anyway, did I mention I had an orgasm for the first 5 minutes I played the game? Yeah it's that good.

Oblivion Settings Guide

Thanks for the guide! Will check out some of these settings for sure!

So what kind of a rig do I need to run this thing at an acceptable level? I'm a hopeless Morrowind junkie but I didn't even even know this game was out yet. I thought it was due way later this year.

My system basic stats are as follows:
Athlon64 3700+
1Gb RAM
128Mb 6600GT

I can run games like Quake4 and FEAR at reasonable frame rates at 1024x768. I'm not one of those freaks who insists on having 60FPS or more. As long as I can get a consistent 15-20FPS, then I'm a happy camper.

I have :
amd64 3000+
1gb ram
6600gt

I play the game at 1024x768 med-high setting bloom on hdr off aa off
and i get about 30-60 fps

I've been playing for3 hours and I'm still lvl 1 and cant kill the 4 scamps outside the church where martin is. I i joined the fighters guild to do some rinky dink quests to gain some expereince and items instead of lowering the difficulty. This bring back memories of how Morrowind is for new players at the start.

My system:

P4 3.0GHZ
1536MB
128mb 6600GT

It runs at around 15-20fps outdoors with HDR on. I notice the graphics look more realistic when HDR is off.

Don't forget to "Rest" every once in a while, especially when the game says something like "Such and Such a skill has increased, you should rest and meditate on this." That's how leveling up works in Oblivion.

Currently, I have a Level 6 High Elf who is a Spellward. I'm not sure if it was a good class choice considering I tend to run out of potions alot and have to rely on my "Heal Minor Wounds" spell to heal. Surprisingly, I've played well over 20-30 hours already and haven't even cracked the main storyline very far. I've been doing a bunch of side quests (some of which I'm stuck on and can't figure out how to finish).

I think I'm going to join the Fighter's Guild soon even though I'm already a member of the Mage's Guild.

Nah resting wasnt it. I finally leveled after 4 hours. But if you are lvl6 after 25ish then we are on about the same pace. I caved and lowered the difficulty but rasied it back up after killing scamps with 3 arrows, that beats the 7 i was at before.

I forgot i had to repair my armor, i did that and now i take less damage. I'm getting much better performance after updating my nvidia drivers and tweeking the grass.

I'm taking a break for now after completing the first main story quests(not a spoiler).
