The quarter mile time for the Carrera GT is listed on the Official Porsche site as 11.4 seconds (from a standing start). In the video they had a slight rolling start (presumably to save the clutch in the Carrera GT). This tells us two things. Firstly, the driver of the Carrera GT didn't want to break his car, so he wasn't pushing it right from the start and secondly the Carrera GT obviously wasn't being driven to its full potential.

Also, a quarter mile test doesn't tell the whole story, as the linear power delivery of an electric motor has a huge advantage over an internal combustion engine from low speeds. At higher speeds (round a track for example), I think the race would be a lot closer (even though the Atom weighs less than half the Carrera GT and is on semi-slick tyres).

Electric motors make all of their torque at low speed. That's why they use them as the traction motors for Diesel Locomotives. The highest tractive force required is at startup, and that's where the electric motors shine.

The GT kept up after around 60 feet, as it came into it's torque range, and the Electric Atom began to taper off. given another 400m, the GT might catch up and pass.

An Ariel Atom is cool no matter if its petrol or electric. If it can beat a Carerra GT, its unquestionably a cool car. 👍

Electric cars are much faster in a drag race, I remember some guy on the s10forum posted a video of GM's electric S-10 beating a LS1 powered Camaro with little problem.

inevitable traction issues in the corner due to the electric engine givin it 100% of it's torque from 1RPM on to peak speed...
