Forefathers my ass. They're old-school, but definitely not forefathers. I guess I just don't like their style.

If you want real old school, then you're looking for the Sugarhill Gang or Grandmaster Flash.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five are awesome. I only like that one Sugarhill Gang song - Rapper's Delight. I know they had another hit song Apache, but I didn't like it.

Run DMC hit it big 5+ years after Sugarhil Gang and Grandmaster Flash. They did start the whole Golden Age of rap in 1986, so they're okay. Artists like NWA, Public Enemy, Jungle Brothers, Ice Cube came out of that period.

Apache is ridiculous sounding. Rapper's delight cancels out any bad song they ever made though. 15 minutes of pure, old school greatness.
