Greetings everyone.

My name is Triforce. Some of you may already know me, and most of you may not. This post is directed towards the GT gamers in New York city or any gamer in general that resides in New York City that plays Racing games regardless of system or time line. If you are a GT player and are from out of state, and wish to comment on this post then fine, but note I am not a Gran Turismo player, nor a hardcore racer, although I have played many racing games. I just do not play them competitively. I am here on this site for other business.

I am here in concerns of the New York City racing gamers community. Shen Yin of the Hyper Clutch unit of Empire Arcadia tried to assemble a tournament for the racing gamers because he felt that no attention was being paid towards the racing community. Thus a move was made to bring the racers to one location to at least meet each other and congregate. Unfortunately not one person showed up except those from Hyper Clutch. Now there is a preception that Empire Arcadia is a all fighting game organization. Be that as what some of you think, if you know about Empire Arcadia, I just want to be the first to say that we make our best efforts to help the videogame community as a whole.

The point of me being here is to call together a conference of all the racers out there. I am not too sure how many New York racing players are out there, but whether you play casual or hardcore we would like to meet you. For the next two Sundays of this month, both the 18th and the 25th Empire Arcadia invites the GT community and the racing community as a whole, to come out and hang out with us at Neutral Grounds to get a better understanding of what the Racing community wants. There are televisions there, so if you want you can just bring your own system. Race against other gamers there that race, or just conversate about holding and event there or a tournament.

This is not going to be any big event; it is just after careful study of the community "in New York" we found that we have to reconstruct the racing community from scratch and to do this it starts with getting to know the players and what they like, and want. In the mean time, use this thread to make any comments or suggestions that you want in relation to the gathering of New York Cities videogame racers. Hopefully from this, we can work on what seems to be the problem. Until then.

Well, hopefully we'll have some luck for the next get-together/competition. No one seems to want to meet up in one spot to play for some reason. The hardest part of all this is to unify the inherently stubborn racing community. You all have to put in the effort for this; as this community has nearly infinite potential for growth and glory. Even the MLG is lacking right now in the GT area, with Halo knocking it back.

Halo?

You're letting a mainstream FPS beat out our community with millions of veterans strong? We're here to help unify this brother/sisterhood. Not to take it over in some way, form or fashion.

Any feedback?

Shocking that you'd mention Halo, Shen...Sad, but shocking. I thought that you hated Halo? Oh yeah, that's right, you play it just to gun-butt people. j/k.

To address important matters... just to back up the last two posts, It's rather disappointing when the normals in the city ask "Why the hell do you guys take racing games so seriously?" And to explain it to those people, who by the way only take pride in card games, paper and pen rpg's, Magic the Gathering, and definitely Yu-gi-oh, is kinda redundant. But to show them the meaning of why we take pride in racing games would mean a lot more than running our mouths online. So, if you possibly can, anyone who reads this post, please give us some support in any way possible. Thank you.

I'm a hardcore GT3 iLinker living in Central Florida. I'm pleased to say that I'm a member of CFiLA (Central Florida iLink Association) a group of friends who originally met at the SEGTP I hosted by GB24Hours and Gilles27 of the GTBN last year and repeated again this last March.

We (CFiLA) get together 3 or 4 times a year for GT3 iLinking, some BBQ and great times, in addition to discussing GT3, GT4, OLR and future SEGTP events.

My point in posting is that I'm a bit suprised that any area as densely populated as NY would have trouble getting folks of a like mind together, whether it be for GT3, PC Racing LAN tourneys, or just to chat about racing games.

TGFM, Shining Mirage and Shen Yin, have you tried some of the other GT3 forums, or racing sim forums such as http://www.simracingworld.com/index/ ?

I've been to a few of 'em. Like granturismobynumbers.com and several others. Either way, we still need to unify this large community base. It's way too fragmented, especially when everyone within it are of common interest.

Something like a family is what we need, the way Empire Arcadia is. Even the fighting game community is a thriving community and they're in support of the most fledging genre of this generation. That doesn't make any sense. It's nothing bad, but it IS severely and sorely needed. For God's sake, GT3 is being dropped from MLG this year due to lack of support.

That's a damn shame.

I have read all of the message from my two colleagues as well as the emperor of Empire Arcadia and can agree on most points. I have never seen the racing community at the halt that it is in. It is saddening and disheartening as well. There are no ultimate word that I can express, but I do know that things need to change. I am hoping that the next two Sundays will be a success.
I thought New York City was filled with diverse gamers in all genres, I guess I was proven wrong once again.

i figured i might as well weigh in on this since i am both from NYC and a regular MLG participant. the problem with GT3 is just that it's too hard to master. millions of people purchased it but i know many who played for 10 minutes and shelved it. plus, it is old. i've thought about it and there are several possibilities as to why people don't come out to race. but in the end it just doesn't add up. it would seem more people would be down to race. but then again, i've had my share of experience in OLR and i'm just used to driving against the best so i think i get some kind of subconscious impression it's like that in the real world as well.

in any case, i'm not certain i can make either date as my father's birthday is the 19th and i will likely be at his house sunday and the following sunday i will be at MLG atlanta. i'll try to make it though. i would recommend posting the plea in the first post on several boards or perhaps waiting a few extra weeks so maybe i can help more to make the meeting a success. either way, it will not be easy to get the lone wolves of GT3 together. it never is.

As mentioned in previous discussions, there are other factors that will result in some potential participants backing out. Most of the advertising done for events like this appears to be online. Which is great in that it costs no money, and can reach a massive amount of people.

Unfortunately, the people who have access to this type of advertising, also have had access to the competitive gaming aspect of OLR. And, if they've bothered to stick with it, they know how they stack up against some of the big names in OLR. Certain names will flat out turn people away. Max E is one of them. Most GT3 players (as they fall outside of the "elite" category) will not go to a competitive event to be humilitated by someone of his caliber. Especially if they have to pay to enter. MLG is facing this unfortunate situation already. I know of at least 3 seperate people who have admitted that Max's intentions to be present (whether he actually makes it or not) was enough to keep them home. He is seen as being unbeatable.... as false as that may be.

His name is not the only one that would have that effect, I'm certain. But he is very well known, as his skill. So anyone who is even remotely familiar with OLR recognizes and respects (or fears) his name immediately. The Missing Link, IforceV8, Slowpoke, Eased, Mr P, Comrade, Flynx, and several others that I can't recall right this moment would all have the same effect to some potential registrants. It would be like going to a 1 on1 basketball tournament and hearing that Michael Jordan was also entering. No matter how much you love the game, if you're going, primarily to compete, it's pointless.

In reality, I think that most people don't realize that true competitive gaming is different than OLR. Not that if you suck at OLR you can expect to win a live tournament, but I think live competitions have a sort of equalizing factor. I feel that I am inferior to Max in the OLR competitions. He can find time in places I just can't seem to. However, when it's heads up competition, things can be different. OLR would be the the equivalent of qualifying in most real racing events-- see how fast you can go on an open track. The races, however, add variables that not all the fastest qualifiers can master so easily.

How often does the pole sitter win a race? Maybe more often that not. But, being the fastest qualifier (or best OLR player) doesn't guarantee a victory at a live tournament.

Having been beaten by Max at several MLG events, I can say that I am probably an authority on this subject. And I just want the rest of the world to know that he can be beaten, as I have done it (just not frequently enough to defeat him). And he will admit it, though he obviously doesn't like to. I get disgusted at all the people who don't give THEMSELVES a chance, by not showing up and at least trying to beat the best....

The one thing I would like organizers to promote, as I think it would increase turnout, would be the social side of a GT3 gathering. In all honesty, meeting other people with the same interests is just as much fun (if not more so) than the competitions themselves. I would bet that if you asked any of the previous attendees of the MLG events if they would do it again, despite their losses, they would reply with a resounding: Yes! The atmoshpere and comraderie of GT players, at this point, still has more intensity than the competitive nature of the players. And until it changes, it will be loads of fun for everyone..... even the losers.

Why do new members always flock to these threads!?

What's your point? (rhetorical)

Some race-sim folks are having issues with participation in their region, or lack, there of.

Most of those "new" members replying are from that community. Many of them have competed in the MLG.

So they aren't Gran Turismo regulars...so what.

It's nice that the GTP (and the other GT community forums) can offer a place that folks can voice their concerns.

It was just a general observation. We have had a number of these threads pop up in the past, and they always seem to be replied to by new members to GTP. Some of which seem to know each-other already from other message boards.

Hey, I'm not being bold or being a chump-at-large by saying this, but I don't care who you are, what your ranking is in what game, if I can play it, and play it well, I'm going to attempt to beat you or just edge you out. Max E., No offense at all, but I have to see my skill, and my playing style to see things in that aspect. But on a serious tip, regardless if you just haapen to be the official GT 3 tester, I'm going to race against you. If ya lap me, I'll bite the bullet, go home, open up the blowtorch and work on a new idea to get ya. Simple. I've never been to an official MLG tourney, although it would be like nearly a dream to me, but I would like to go to a tourney and just POSSIBLY get owned. I mean, no chance in hell-type of owning. Just to see that there are people who are better in certain games than I am.

Just the other day, I looked up some random site and I just went looking for top records in Burnout 2. I found out that someone else (Notice that I mentioned one person) matched my current record for Maximum amounts of Burnouts in one race. (31) But had a time of 3:49:13. That urked my nerves for a moment, as I actually just took a moment to actually study the track, the number of cars incoming in a certain section, and the possible paths to be taken to maneuver through the oncoming cars, while mainaining both a racing line and the contiuous strings of burnouts. Now I'm one to admit, That record is honestly going to stay there for a loooong time. Of course I'm going to attempt to change that, but for right now, I'm holding the blow-torch.

It may sound irrelevant, but I hope you guys get the message. You guys are smarter than most. Oh and Max, I actually look forward to racing you someday. I may be considered an Intermediate to the racing scene, but, I'll do my best.

~Born to Play~

I have extensively read all of your post. With that done the point of this particular thread was still over looked. Empire Arcadia and its divisions are not about just competition; we are about the gathering; the family of gamers; the community. Even if you do not play, we would still like to get to know you. Find out what other genre of games that you play and what you are about. Learn from each and everyone of you. These online fourms do nothing but make people in society anti social. Yes they do help in tremendous ways such as a means of communication for those who are long distance but they should only be used as compliments in human communication, not replacements. As for those that are long distance we are not talking about you guys, this method of communication is needed for you, but for those who are in NYC we want to see your face. Those who are not from NYC, I completely appreciate your opinions and ask that you continue to show your interest and support by pointing out anyother opinion that you may have on this thread. However the point of this thread is directed mainly towards NYC gamers. Whether you play figthing games, role playing, FPS, whatever it may be, if you like racing games, and play them competitively or not we would like to meet you. Get to know you as a gamer and share in your views about how Empire Arcadia can help structure the NYC Racing community. That is what we are here for. That is my job.

Whatever impressions that you have of Empire Arcadia, I only ask this one request; meet us in person, watch us in person, speak to us in person. You will find that behind the screen and real time are usual two different things, and one reveals the truth far more than the other. Today is the 18th and our first week of the structuring and we are going to push hard today on any and all gamers of the community that should show up for racing. I will give an update shortly after the day is done. Until then.

i will be glad to come down there and meet with whomever wishes to come. this weekend is bad since i will quite likely be in atlanta. after that i'm cool. perhaps i will create a thread on all the boards to get everybody i can in the area to the spot.

@TFGM, i know you are not asking for my assistance in getting people to the spot but i do know quite a few drivers on all the GT boards. if you wait a week, i can post a plea for NYC area drivers to assemble across all the boards. it might not be tremendously helpful, but i'll try. i just can't do it this week.

You don't need to ask me, nor should I ask you. If you have the ability to help out and bring people who are interested in structuring this community and making it more enjoyable and entertainning then I suggest that you do what you can and are willing to do to make your contributions to the community. Next week is the week of the 25th and I would be very appreciative if you did make calls to people to bring them out to Neutral Grounds. This coming Sunday Empire Arcadia is going to host a Gaming Summit where Nintendo, and M3's president Brendon will be there to hold a conference for gamers and their community. I look forward to seeing you and your friends there. This summit is open to all gamers in the NYC or tri state area pending that you can come. I will add more to this as it develops. Until then.

Alright people, here is the first challenge. My current record is:

1'18.866

This is on Laguna Seca, using the Nismo Skyline GTR-R34, at 657bhp.

I know that there are some serious GT player up here, so I'm awaiting for my record to be broken. Good luck, people!!

Good work Shen Yin. Now this is an example of what you all can do in terms of contributing to the community. Do not however take out of context Shen's challenge. Whether you can beat the score or not, is not the point. The point is to make an effort. If anyone of you have any scores that you would like to seen beaten that will help you push yourself to greater excellence, then post them here.

Do not be afraid that your score may be broken. The truth to your score being broken is that you have yet to reach your excellence, and that is a good thing. It makes you appreciate your ability to play harder, and that is "ONE" of the enjoyments of gaming. We welcome you all who wish to compete, causually play, and or just have comments. Until then.

Shen Yin
Still waiting, you guys. I know you all have the skill!!
Yes we do. However, most of us are gearing up for the MLG tourney (tomorrow). Give it time. I'm sure the record will fall.

What are the other guidelines for your challenge? Suspension? Tires? Etc... Or as long as we have 657HP or less, we're good? You'll need to be more specific with the upgrades/modifications permitted before you see any real efforts.

Fair enough about MLG (good luck to all competitors).

BTW: gear ratios can be set in any manner and Super Softs are used as well. But yes, 657hp is the limit. If you can do it in less (which I do not doubt) that would be awesome!!

Good luck to all for MLG and with this challenge.
👍

Just a suggestion, but perhaps you should move the Challenge portion of this discussion to the On-Line Racing/Spot Races and Lap Time Comparisons forum.

Title it something like "Empire State Laguna Seca Skyline Challenge" and in the opening paragraph, link back to this discussion as the source for how the challenge came about...

It's a good challenge, but would recieve more attention in the OLR forum. ;)

I guess I'll put in my two cents. I have been to one I-link event (SEGTP II in Florida which NoQuarter mentioned), and am going to another in 3 weeks in Detroit, Michigan. Now, I live in Minnesota, but don't know any locals here who are into GT3. So I travel across the country to do so. However, I would not pay money to some company to attend such a gathering, even with prizes involved, since I can get the same thing for free. Well, actually, I did pay a $5 entry fee for the SEGTP's tourney, but it was to the owner of GTBN (who is a friend of mine), and I knew that he had forked out plenty of his own dollars to put the party on, as well as to host his website. He didn't make any profit.
So I guess my point is that I will attend as many privately-held I-link and/or GT3 discussion get-togethers as I can, but I doubt I will ever attend one where the organizers intend to make a profit.

~Born to Play~

I don't think that Shen's score is that important for what we really try to use the score for. The score was suppose to generate intereste based on gathering gamers of interest for the community not "just to beat it". That is the reason why the score wasn't put in the other room that you mentioned. But that is neither here or there of what I am here for. Yesterday the Summit concluded and the article on it will but online within a day or so. I will link you guys when the article is done. Until then.
