Engine Swaps in Gran Turismo 7? New Screenshots Raise New Questions

Seeing as they show you the specific engine I think that means we'll only be able to swap engines that are part of the same manufacturer group, so Porsche and VW being under the VW Group makes sense. Would also mean that Lambo; Audi; and Bugatti would be included in that. W16 Golf anyone!?
Realistically though they will probably also take into account engine bay sizes to might need to temper that expectation.
So I'll have to assume we'll get no V8 Miata's or rotary Fiat 500's sadly.
BUT regardless I am super excited about this!

The Beetle alone suggests otherwise. You can't fit a Porsche flat-six into a Beetle's engine bay. The only way to keep it entirely inside the body is to remove the back seats and put an engine cradle in.

Yes, this has been done in the real world

My take on it is that they'll follow popular engine swap choices, based on engines that appear in other cars featured in the game.

911 engine in a Beetle, Skyline and Supra engines in various smaller JDM cars, small block Fords and Chevys in many different front-engined vehicles, etc etc. Keeping swops to engines that already exist in the game means those tuning options can be carried over as well.

But i guess we'll see!

Maybe that's why they allowed it then? That definitely opens up way more possibilities, I didn't think I could be more hyped about it but here we are!

I hope you're right, Kaz did say this game is a celebration of car culture and what is bigger cliche in car culture than LS swapping anything with four wheels and a seat!

They will probably go with what is "realistic". Maybe with brand/group limitations as it was mentioned by someone else. Without any limitation, and we can slap the same engine on every car, we will see a meta being created, with a few engines reigning supreme, while the rest become useless. I want to see unique combos, and not the same OP setup on every car.

Even somewhat limited engine swaps open up the possibilities for us. Imagine getting Pikes Peak eventually, and being able to set times with a Beetle with a Porsche engine. Some pretty interesting hillclimb monsters could be created.

I am anxiously awaiting the cahnce to drop an NSX engine in a Civic. ( That has been done in real life took a lot of work though). Or a Viper V10 in a 70s Cuda 🙂

Me before State of Play: PS5s are expensive, GT games have terrible launches, the AI still looks dumb, and the PS4 version is going to be like Cyberpunk.

Me after State of Play: I am going to throw away my family, my friends, my house, my job, MY ENTIRE LIFE, just so I can swap in a R26B 4 Rotor into an RX-8!

A lot of folk setting themselves up for a lot of disappointment. This is a feature made by PD, so expect it to be half-hearted, quickly abandoned, and to make no sense.

It's entirely possible that the example Beetle is the only car in with an engine swap.
It's also entirely possible that you can do engine swaps in many other cars, let's wait and see instead of being debbie downers.

Highly doubt it.

Or quite the opposite. It could be a well though through feature, taking into account engine dimensions, layouts, brand connections as opposed to 6.5l V12 AWD swap everything. The fact that they went as far as having proper names of the engines is promising.

Not that this needed any further confirmation (it's actually in the game), but Kaz retweeted this japanese post talking about it.

Could be limited to certain brands, but they're allowing exclusive brand/model paintjobs for every car, so who knows.

It's comforting to know this wasn't just some weird UI bug/placement holder or something like we saw in the announcement trailers.

Why would the Beetle of all things be the only car with engine swaps? That makes no sense.

but now still no any honda K engine on the list ,DC5 , FD2 ,EP3 etc.
The FK2 Type R is in the game but that's got the first turbo K20C1.

Hopefully they limit it to realistic examples.
The problem is everything is realistic these days. Beyond swaps, people are literally building engines from scratch, especially rotaries that have never existed. Drivetribe is working on a miniature V10 Miata.

sorry ,i should mention NA k-series

There's also three EKs and two DC2s, so you won't be hunting for Ks.
those 3 ek are racing mod EK9 , 96 spec ek9 , and 98/00 spec ek9
dc2 also 96 spec and 98/00 spec

Why though? I was only half-joking when I said I wanted to put an Tomahawk X engine into every car of mine. Half a joke because it's such an OP engine, the other half not a joke because I think players should be given freedom to do so if they wanted to.

I want to make Lincoln Whiddett's mx5.

This is Gran Turismo, I'd prefer it stay somewhat believable.
