Depends on what you're using to compare the sizes. I've attached a pic of two different comparisons.. one using the disc slot/tray to compare, the other using the USB ports. While the USB-comparison does dramatically increase the size of the system, it does seem to be the more realistic.

Here's the CD comparison:

Here's the USB comparison:

Personally, I don't care how big the thing is. It'll end up taking up less space than my PS2, for the simple reason that the controllers have no wires. I can leave the PS3 snugged up against the side of my entertainment center, out of the way, rather than pulling the thing halfway into the living room so I have enough slack in the wires.

for that first pic....

if i'm not mistaken, those auto-feeding CD slots always need SOME space on the sides. the discs should be the same size, it's just the bay that makes it look bigger. if they want backwards compatability with BD-ROM and DVD, they wouldn't go changing the size.

and i think the USB comparison pic is the most acuracte out of them all. you can tell how relatively big it is just from the pic of the pres. holding it up. the PC Power connection looks accurate, and so does all the other plugs. i think that first pic is very distorted, and that they didn't take the pictures to the same scale.

Which is why I think the second pic is more accurate. The slot will be bigger than the tray, but no one knows how much bigger, which makes it not exactly ideal for size comparisons.

The slot will be slightly bigger than the disk but not hugely bigger eitherwise the mechanism would not be able to suck the disk in at the right alignment....it can only be at max a cm wider than the disk.....

oh and BR disks come in many different sizes.....including the standard 12cm DVD size.....which is the one Sony are most likely gonna use.......

... which leads us to conclusion that Ken Kutaragi is much smaller guy then we all thought, as PS3 prototype looks very big in his handz...

That size is just fine with me. I never had a problem with the size of the original PS2.

Whoa ! PS3, when is that coming out ?

...wow. :indiff:

and Ken probably is very small indeed. Asians are usually very small in stature. You can also kind of tell that he is small based on the size of his head/face and frame. If he was 6'7 with a head/face like that, i'd be pretty worried.

There's a picture somewhere of Ken standing next to Kaz (with the PS3), and Kaz is a full head taller (Ken barely comes up to Kaz's chin). In comparison to Kaz, the system actually looks quite small.

I don't think it really matters how big a console is. Most people aren't going to look at it and go "Oh, that's too big, I guess I can't play Vision Gran Turismo because the console is too big." I guess as long as it's not bigger than a normal size DVD player or VCR, people will purchase it.

Yeah, like a little asian Danny DeVito. :P

The design is starting to grow on me even more now. It wont matter how big it is though or even if they totaly eff up the styling for the final version, It will be a part of my system as soon as there is a GT for it.

Exactly.

The original Playstation looked awful its only recently that people have begun to care about style...

Either that or I am the only person who noticed that the PS looked like a grey flat unimaginative brick...

I dont care if the PS3 looks like that, why should I, my PC is not elegant or good looking. I have not wasted money on a case that looks like a demon or one with neon lights, true beuty lies inside the case's capabilities.

Ethernet input / output? There only needs to be one port, unless they've built a hub system into the machine, which I highly doubt. It could be modem in / out and an ethernet port, but I can't imagine them including modem on these things.

No one knows what it's going to be used for. All they said was that there are two gigabit Ethernet inputs and one gigabit Ethernet output. The only thing people have come up with so far is that it will act as it's own router. Which would be handy if I ever decided to take it online, since that's one less piece of equipment I'd need to buy to do so.

I believe they have already announced that they were going to eliminate this router feature on the final system... they claim it's too expensive to have it available. So those slots are not going to be there.
