It's really annoying that this is only for US purchases.

I have a 60GB fat and was always disappointed they removed OtherOS because it was something that actually attracted me to buying one. Having computer functionality was a pretty cool feature.

Yeah, and looking back on it now Sony had a similar situation where they had promised us an online experience in GT but never delivered. Can't remember if it was GT4 or Prologue but it was a pretty big deal as well at the time, and if my memory serves me correctly they broke the bad news until it was close to release. Anyway, that's a topic for a different day .

I didn't look that hard into the details so I'm not that sure about what countries are covered, but it's worth looking into.

I gotta believe that if they're honoring this for US customers then it's going to eventual be worldwide as well.. I hope :odd:.

Unfortunately it says in the article "If you purchased an original "Fat" PS3 between November 1, 2006, and April 1, 2010 at an "authorized retailer" in the US"

Because the lawsuit was filed in the US I guess they only settled the case for US customers. It's like how VW agreed a buy back scheme for Diesels in the US but the UK got nothing. It would be great if other global arms of Sony followed suit but guess after all this time chances would be pretty slim.

Doesn't seem to be asking for a receipt thank goodness. There's no way I can find the receipt for my 20gb fat from 2006 .

It's mostly the Serial Number for the PS3.

This is the same one that has been going around where if you had "OtherOS" you would get 55$ and if you knew about it but didn't do anything you got 9$. Now they just combined it to where if you have one you get 65$ regardless if you have used "OtherOS"

Given how rare and coveted the original PS3 models with hardware-based PS2 backwards compatibility are getting, you'd be a fool to send your 20GB model off to Sony for $65. You'd get a far better deal on eBay assuming it's in full working condition.

Or you could send yours to me, I'll gladly pony up the $65 :sly:

If you read the fine print, $65 is the maximum possible settlement, but the actual figure will depend on the number of people who file claims.

And @Huks you don’t have to surrender your console; Sony is merely paying you for the diminished functionality.

Yeah I won't be sending them back for $65 each.
