You really think they don't know this is possible?? Or thought about it? ..I'm 10000% sure they are very very aware of this.

edit: but I'm with you here, as quite a long time with the academy I assumed that no tuning was possible. It just was so clear to me that I didn't even try it out...

Are these same live dynamics available in GT academy too... or those races where you cant do quick tune changes either?

Brake balance 10/10
I think thats bit over kill, especially for the people that do not use ABS.

L3 = open the tuning menu
D-PAD-UP = toggle the menu up
D-PAD-DOWN = toggle the menu down (suprisingly)
D-PAD-RIGHT = adjust +
D-PAD-LEFT = adjust -

just go to the options and map there.. ;) 👍

I have something the same or really similar on My controller. The G25 that I play with is at Normal button mapping.

I use exactly this config. for the Dynamic Config. Menu through my SIXAXIS or DUAL SHOCK 3. I used to config. the brakes for that race just because I was used to drive that F430 on another brakes level.

the Interceptor , I agree with you 1000%

When cars have fixed setups you should not be allowed to change brake bias, or torque distribution etc because those adjustments can increase the speed of the car.

The whole point of fixed setups is that the cars should be identical and only driver skill should matter, not tuning skill of brake bias and torque distribution.

When NASCAR 2003 online forces fixed setups the only thing you can change is the steering lock, or as it's called in GT5P the max turning angle. That is the only thing changeable because it's a driving preference and doesn't help with actual speed.

A few nights ago I was racing some GTP guys, and I thought I was hot stuff coming out of the first hairpin, but these GTP guys who were getting fast starts off the line just annihilated me in the hairpin.

Then Chronos-GT posts a GT-R free run lap time .8 faster then me and .5 faster then Timppaq. Not taking anything away from Chronos' great lap, but I'm pretty sure he changed the balance of the car to go that fast. Every single lap I've run has been with the stock settings and that puts me at a disadvantage and why should it?? Afterall this is suppose to be fixed, equal setups.

Real Time adjusting should not be allowed in fixed setup races or Arcade Time Trials

Hmmm don't feel so bad about my lap time at the GTR vs F430 free run now, I guess I really need to move on from Sixaxis to reach my full potential.

Thanks for the vital info guys.

I don't think it's really unfair because in real life pro-drivers (F1 great example) also change their setups during racing depending on the sector they are in (example Spa: brake balance will be much different from Les Combes to Stavelot than rest of the track). My point is,if you know how to use it to your advantage, good for you..

I personally have never changed the quick tune settings in this race (GTR vs F430) and don't plan to, I don't really care that much except the fact when someone does a wild time, you always wonder if it was partly aided by a setup change.

Earth, I'm inclined to agree with you as I've been busting my ass trying to better my GTR time on free run and only last night managed a time about 0.04 from your own with a sixaxis. I have to admit the challenge and motivation to post the fastest time is making me dedicate a lot of time to this, so I would love to find a reason why the others can pull out about half a second on my time...but I'm reluctant to blame it on this. I just find that the more I practise, the more time falls off. If you had asked me 3 days ago there was NO way I could see me shaving 0.4 off my earlier GTR time...and yet there it went.

Now I could be dead wrong, and I could purchase a G25, change the brake balance and torque distribution, and slap in a 2:09 or 2:08...and yet I know with the lap that I did, I messed up 130R so if I chain together all the best sectors I have done so far, it would be a 2:09 anyway, with a sixaxis.

I'm just a little reluctant to latch on to something like this and blame it for the current few tenths I'm missing. I may just have to give credit to people like Timo and Chronos who could string together 3 perfect sectors regularly.

*SNIPPED something about Sixaxis live dynamics* ..

Really??? Ok now I'm really annoyed I am going to be away from my PS3 for 4 weeks because I may never get a chance to test this out and see if it improves my time :P Maybe Earth can experiment and see what happens? I'm assuming he is on Sixaxis also..

To be honest, I think they may have overlooked the fact that you can adjust the power distribution for AWD cars through live dynamics. And the fact that I only saw these rocket starts of GT-Rs two times in all my online play, I assume that there are (or were) not too many people out there knowing this.

spot on! 👍

Are you serious, I love my realtime adjustment !!! :grumpy: I can only hope PD won't listen to you, now that they just introduced that very nice feature making the whole GT experience a little bit more realistic! Brake bias on 5/5, why do you really would want that? Never!!! Its a simulation guys. If you don't like realistic stuff like this maybe you should try out Grid...?!?
/edit because of confusion with QTS...although i think it was obvious because this is actually new to GT series :)

But isn't that a glitch in the game, technically? The idea of that race is that both cars are about equally fast and remain stock. As soon as you can bypass the quick tuning through live dynamics and still make changes to the cars, wouldn't that be unfair? Especially as you obviously can change a setting like FW/RW power distribution for the GT-R, which you can't copy for the F430.

Let me ask something; I tried this to see if it might work and I think that it did. I went into a race where I could tune a car to the settings I wanted (springs, dampers, toe, gears, etc), then exited and went into a race where you can not tune the car. It seemed to me that the custom setting were still the current settings and were the ones being used, and the car performed better.

Is this just my imagination or is this working?

You absolutely missed the whole point, so I'll try to enlighten you. I have nothing against quick tuning or live dynamic tuning whatsoever, in fact, I love it. In this online race however, quick tuning is disabled by default, so the only thing that makes you good on the track is your own driving skill. Then, they nuked that concept by leaving live dynamics tuning enabled, so you can still make changes to your car. And on top of that, they chose two cars where one has more tuning options that the other, which unbalances the race even further.
Is this just my imagination or is this working?
I think that's just imagination. When you expect the car to handle differently your experience changes, so you think there is a difference.

I use DFP, not sixaxis

A perfect lap for me with the default setting of the GT-R, no real time tweaking, would be a .9xx. My fastest first sector is .1 faster then the .312 lap, and I almost always gain on my ghost considerably through the rest of the track, at one time I was even a couple car lengths ahead of it going into the final chicane when I choked and just braked too early.

However I can tell you first hand changing the torque distribution does increase the speed of the car, a long long time ago in a galaxy far away when we had 700pp expert at Fuji everyone was using the GT-R, I used it and was off the pace a bit, then I changed the torque distribution to make it a bit more like a RWD car and take out some of the understeer and I got faster automatically...others in this very thread have said they are .5 faster consistantly when altering the torque

I'm not going to bother with the time trial again, I won't run another hot lap in free run because A. That wears me and and frustrates me and B. The silly real time tuning for stock setups changes everything and puts people on different playing levels.

Chronos-GT is probably a far better hot lapper then me I think I've seen him at the top of some charts but when I see guys online just zoom past me on the starts like they got a rocket attached to them and then guys just flying through the hairpin it just takes the competitive spirit out of me when I realize everyone isn't on the same playing field.

I can program buttons to adjust torque brake with the DFP etc but I won't, I'm not calling it cheating it's just I won't bother with it because it shouldn't even be allowed in the first place.

I'm for the quick tunes, but they shouldn't be allowed in fixed setup races and arcade time trials where skill should shine, not tuning knowledge

no need, it's already perfect. front=0, rear=100. ;)

I use (DFP):

L3 = open the tuning menu
D-PAD-UP = toggle the menu up
D-PAD-DOWN = toggle the menu down (suprisingly)
D-PAD-RIGHT = adjust +
D-PAD-LEFT = adjust -

just go to the options and map there.. ;) 👍

I use the same but L3 is look back, so I use [] to bring up the RA menu on my g25.

erm..., i have to disagree. Even us in the Champ Car atlantic series can adjust our front stabi's while racing and we can change the brake bias for every other turn!
About the torque distribution i will not comment, since that is up to other people.
I dont know any car with 4WD that you can adjust while in a race.
*correct me if i'm wrong*

One of the issues that I've found is that all GTRs start at the front of the field anyway, which is an immediate disadvantage for the Ferrari, but I do believe that overall the Ferrari is the faster car. It's lighter, has better power-weight ratio and "stock" has a much better natural braking balance than the GTR which is nervous under brakes.

But I didn't know the GTR could be tweaked like that because I thought that the options couldn't be played with. Knowing now after reading this thread that the torque distribution can be 'fine tuned' and braking balance also 'fine tuned' leads me to beleive that the GTR may be the better car. It would be certainly easier to drive with adjustments, where as we all have to live the Ferrari's twitchy rear end.

As for Chronos, he's seriously quick, he's the sort of guy you could stick in a wheelie bin and he'd be quick - perhaps the best all-round hotlapper I've come across. I'm not going to whinge because he shelled out his hard-earned money for a wheel.

And to be serious, if spending 400 bucks on a wheel wasn't going to present some sort of advantage over a SIXAXIS, then you'd be nuts to buy one. As it stands, the advantage of a wheel is well deserved and if people can use them for a little extra edge, I'm not going to complain.

Good on 'em!

👍

STI, Adjustable Dccd. But like others have said this is not uncomon practice in atual racing and PD probably left it in to give a extra advantage to those who bought the DFGT.

Don't get me wrong, I know it is realistic, and I like that you can do it in the game. I just don't understand why you can do it in a race that is meant to be without any tweaks to the car.

Well, you can do it with the GT-R in the F430 vs. GT-R race. Or were you talking about R/L?

No, I didn't miss your point, but I meant Realtime Adjustments, not QTS, sorry about that my bad.
Unfortunatelly i totally disagree about that matter, I like you can't tune your cars in World Events, but I love the tweaking before the start, during the race! Also the F430 and GTR are perfectly match imo. RA is only realistic and Id hate it to disappear now that i got used to it since 1st day of SpecII.

Yep, and this will help sell a boat load more

you can do it on every controller..sixaxis, dualshock3, wheel, doesn't matter (that is why it's so weird that GTTV AD for the new wheel is based on this function :dunce: ) .. just go to options --> controllers and assign every button as you wish (except the horn, this is exclusive to new logitech wheel)

Well I don't want RA to go completely, I just think it should be disabled for races where you can't tune your car with quick tuning. Case in point: the F430 vs. GT-R race. You say they are the perfect match, and I'm totally with you. But then there's a setting in the RA menu for the GT-R (power distribution) that gives you a clear advantage over the stock car. As the F430 being RWD, it of course has no such setting. So in the end, the GT-R gains an advantage through RA that it shouldn't have in this race, because the two cars were chosen to be equally fast when stock.

it just seams to go agenst the spirt of the event. Two equaly fast yet very diffrent cars, why mess that up by letting you tune anything, if you didnt want to race a stock car why enter the even just go to one of the PP baised races?

Don't get me wrong, I know it is realistic, and I like that you can do it in the game. I just don't understand why you can do it in a race that is meant to be without any tweaks to the car.

..who has told you that this is an event with no tuning at all (I was mistaken too and said that in one of my earlier posts)??? I think many just assumed this.. Actually this is an event with on fly tuning. Yes, I would also love an event where there is no tuning at all allowed. This was my point.. 👍

:)

Let me put it like this. I'd be okay with no quick tuning whatsoever and only live adjustments (or realtime adjustments or whatever you call it) for the options you can set prior to racing (like TCS and so on). Things like power distribution should not be included in this, because they don't belong to the general tweaking options of the game.

I'll have to disagree with the bandwagon that calls for cheating/advantage with the GTR.
That's how the car actually is. I've been also questioning this on my own but the ATTESSA system does this without you actually intervening. It wil adjust the torque split according to your throttle input, sliding angle, etc. It also comes OEM from the manufacturer, unless I'm mistaken?

You'd be penalizing a car because it was better engineered, from my point of view, than another car?

I dont know any car with 4WD that you can adjust while in a race.

Subaru Impreza STi(hawkeye onwards) in the Time Attack Championships ;).

You can control the diff to make it more RWD bias.(The Impreza is also used in many production car based race series around the world aswell.)

@ Div: Actually, we're not. We're not referring to the inbuilt systems of the cars (given they were implemented in the game anyway). We're talking about the external tweaking options the game gives you for each car. They are independent from model and make, they only refer to the drive system.
