...on a 224mph run no less. Wait till the end, it's pretty entertaining.

This originally came from Autoblog.

Yikes. So lucky at that speed going sideways for the car not to dig in and flip, could have been pretty nasty.

It looked like it was going too though, didn't it?

Should I become a fan80Y and and say he couldn't keep it on the black stuff even in a straight line?

How many gears was it running? I could have sworn it was 7 - but maybe it was a choke at the start.

He did a good job recovering.
When the car went for the grass he kept the car straight and allowed it to drive into the grass (straight) rather than many peoples reaction would be steer away from the grass trying to stay on the runway which could likely cause the car to hit the grass on a angle and flip (rims dig in).

I know he did. I'm sure someone not so level headed would have tried to flick it more right when it got back in a straight line, but with the weight shift and the fair speed he was still carrying, it could have been worse.

well, when you have that much runoff room, might as well use it.

How he ended up not going in ass-first is beyond me.

He was going 224mph, so when he let off the gas all the weight went to the front. He must have had a little bit of steering lock when he let off.

I know that...but the car Yawed a TON, and yawed FAST. I thought the thing was gonna swap ends completely.

Excellent save on the driver's part.

to me it sounded more like something blowing in the rear.. perhaps a charge pipe or such?

bah. in 911's, losing control is a standard feature, especially when you go from 100% throttle to braking.

Yes the sunroof popped (the noise) and effected his rear aero.

It seems a remarkable oversight not securing something like a sunroof when you're building a car that does over 200mph...

Yeah I would have thought that if you were buying a Porker for that kind of stuff, why would you get one with such luxuries as a sunroof?

You have to remember, a lot of these guys who come to this event only do it once or twice per year and that's it, and that a lot of them aren't about doing a complete setup & tune for the mile.

Well, this, and often a car built by a little tuning shop like that's often purchased secondhand...so, perhaps they couldn't find a Porsche Turbo without a sunroof in their area.

I can bet there's a piece of lexan going in there as we speak, though.

I'm assuming that once the car went sideways at that speed the combination of wide rear tires and a big wing acted to keep him front spinning any further...
