I had a chance to play FEAR with Vipfreak /FPS_Noob last weekend and it was quite fun in 1280. I still dont see all the hype behind the game but I am hoping as I play the single player more that I will appreciate it. I want to be able to blow people to pieces just like in the original Soldier of Fortune for PS2. You could blow each limb individually off with the shotgun even the intestines would come out. Heads could get blown off, hands, legs, feet. I want fear to be like that.

The SOF serious were awesome! The Shotgun was by far my favorite. FEAR is definitely not that kind of graphic, they use heavy bit-mapping, but alas no limbs getting blown off....

Nope you have that backwards for sure. I rented SOF2 and it was extremely weak. I even posted vids in the SOF thread showing the difference between those 2 games. SOF2 was nothing compared to SOF1.
 
All my FEAR screenshots come out as bitmaps. I want them to save as JPEG's. I converted them this time but how do I set FEAR up to save as a jpeg insted of bmp?? I took about 15 screenshots tonight. Some parts really gave me massive goosebumps!!! :nervous:
Here is one part that really creeped me out!!!!! All slow motion. Blood dripping fom ceiling, little creepy girl walking from ceiling, I turn around and this creepy guy with glowing eyes is standing right behind me and starts killing me!!!!! :nervous: :nervous:




 
I bet no one else has managed to make a guy die in this position! Haha.

If I have a chance I will get on late tonight. i will check this thread and if anyone replies I will try to meet you in a room. Otherwise I will put the headset on and play the single player. I look at the pic above with the ghost and the glowing eyes. Dang that part still freaks me out. If you look close enough you realize you are walking on the ceiling upside down and the blood is above you. then that ghost with the freaky eyes comes at you. Quite scary. Cant wait to play more.

I think I would be able to play, but I haven't play FEAR since I've gotten net on my rig(I've been playing BF2). If I get it up and running by tonight I could try to play a game with ya, that is, if I am home.

So, have you beaten the single player game yet? I haven't read this thread in awhile, so I don't know. I finished it over March break. Wow! What a game. I loved it soo much. :) The end is one twisted mess. :P

No I havent beat the single player. I just recently had a PC built that can play FEAR on the highest settings. I posted above the level I am on. I just barely started playing it. I dont have much time lately to play games but I try on the weekend to get caught up. I was hoping the game got better because so far it seemed overrated. Mabey as it progresses it will become more fun.

Yeah i'm coming towards the end of single player, haven't dared touch the multiplayer yet because i know i'll just get loads of lag.

With this new PC I have only got lag one time and that was because one of the players had a 300+ ping. After he was booted it played perfect. The multiplayer really isnt all that great especially after you play games like BF2. I only have bf2 for xbox but that is such a fun game online.

Agreed, but this is a FEAR thread. :P

I played MP FEAR by myself awhile ago just looking at some of the levels. They seemed confusing, large, and too dark. I was hoping it would be something along the lines of SOF2, but it wasn't even close. Then I got to the Asylum level which scared the life outta me. Is the MP actually scary like the game at times?

I think it depends on what you call fun. If by fun you mean challenging, it will get fun, but if by fun you mean cheery and happy, your in for a big suprise. The story is good if you really try and follow it though, by getting all the messages and laptop information. And try to listen to everything Betters says, you learn alot, but you won't figure it out, unless you've read a spoiler.

I thought it was fun because of the challenge(played it on second hardest difficulty). It was also something very differnet from SOF2 and FarCry, which both have very drawn out levels. I personally like confined urban combat (that's why I like Strike at Karkand in BF2). That is also the reason I can't wait to get GR:AW for PC.

Anyhow, I'll post later if I get the online thing going. Do you need to get an account for it?
 
I've played the demo today, on maximum settings 1024*768, and it's awesome. But where can you see the average FPS and all that (In the demo)?

[Edit] Ok, I think you can't see that in the demo...

F.E.A.R. expands, Extracts

Extraction Point announced as first expansion to Monolith's PC shooter; TimeGate takes over development of fall release.

Throw the whole "There's nothing to fear but F.E.A.R. itself" quote out the window. In addition to the recently announced Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R., Sierra Entertainment today announced something else that gamers can be scared of. F.E.A.R., one of the top PC shooters from 2005, is getting its first expansion pack.

Titled F.E.A.R. Extraction Point, the expansion "kicks off where the original game ended" and will be released this fall. Those attending the Electronic Entertainment Expo will be among the first to check out what lies in store, which will include new locations, weapons, and enemies, as well as a few familiar faces from the original.

The announcement of the expansion poses a few questions about the direction of the franchise. Monolith Productions, which owns the rights to the intellectual property and characters, was purchased by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and has already announced it is working on new F.E.A.R. sequels. However, Vivendi Games, parent company of Sierra, owns the name F.E.A.R.

A rep from Vivendi Games gave GameSpot News the scoop to clear up any confusion that may remain. The expansion is part of the original agreement between Monolith and VG, and Monolith is working very closely with new developer TimeGate Studios (Kohan, Axis & Allies) to ensure the add-on is consistent with the direction of the series. The story of the expansion has been approved by Monolith and could possibly be the link between WB's full-blown F.E.A.R. sequel.

Vivendi and Monolith are continuing to work together to support F.E.A.R. and will release the version 1.5 patch, with new multiplayer modes, soon.
 
I haven't played F.E.A.R for a long time, but i may start to play it again now McLaren.
 
I have still barely even played the single player of FEAR. After playing games like Far Cry or Black and White 2, they make the fear graphics look like nothing. Fear is just so dark with absolutely no color so is hard to keep me hooked playing it.
 
Maybe you just don't have the right settings set, or your not using the correct type of monitor.

I have an extremely good monitor and I probably have a better runing PC than you do. My graphics and all my settings are all at the highest resolution. ANd I am running in 1280x960. ALL THE HIGHEST SEETTINGS. Just accept the fact that this game is not that colorful and the graphics really arent that impressive. Try to take a screen shot to prove me different. THen take that same screen shot and compare it to the Far Cry screen shots or Black and White 2. Fear is overrated. Just accept the fact.
The only thing impressive is the AI. Other than that it is very overrated.

The graphics looked lush to me, maybe you should cause more madness. And turn your brightness up, I am yet to run it through my HDTV.

But I am looking forward to doing it on my HDTV.

Have you ever played Far cry or Black and white 2? Just look at the pics I posted in those threads. Especially Far Cry. You will notice a massive difference in color and graphics when you see those screenshots. :sly:
Compare these couple pics to any pic in thise thread. Fear just seems like nothing after I play a game like Black and White 2. If you really want some more beautiful pics go to the Elders Scroll 4 thread. ANother beautiful game. I posted an elders scroll 4 pic from Pako.

I have played BW2, but the graphics don't look as nice as F.E.A.R. Far Cry does look nice, but it does not have some of the nice details that F.E.A.R has.

Far Cry and F.E.A.R are both on the same level playing field, anyway there is a trailer for the add on pack up which can be found here:

Also one of the new guns in the add on pack is a type of mini gun.

have you played Far Cry? The detail is brilliant, physics of the game are spot on, AI is impressive and it features some of the best environments I have EVER seen in my god knows how many years of gameplay. You say F.E.A.R has better details than Far Cry, then I want you to name some.

As for F.E.A.R, alot of it is in battered buildings, which, lets be honest gets done alot in games.

However, just wait for Crysis, that game is gonna pwn all!

I,ve played Far Cry but I,ve seen better physics's. Maybe its because some people can spot different details then others.
 
I just started playing fear again :) I only played the game for a few minutes when I 1st bought it because I kept getting destracted by all the other games I've bought...
So... i re-installed the game yesterday and installed the patch... I'd forgotten how fun and detailed this game is. :)
Playing the game at night with all the lights off is quite the experience if you let yourself get sucked into the world of F.E.A.R :)
i run the game at 1152x864 with 2xAA and 4or8xAF to take care of the jaggies. looks great on my 19 inch lcd :P

the particle effects are sweet. anyone know if the dust affects the ai's ability to see you?
