I cannot wait to get Quake 4 aswell. I post my screens of F.E.A.R up sometime this week or next, trying to find the right balance between speed and looks at the moment.

Well, technically F.E.A.R is just an abbreviation of "First Encounter Assault Recon". That's 4 words. :dopey:

I picked it up, but I also picked up Quake 4 which I've been playing. I've installed FEAR, but I'm yet to actually start a campaign.
 
D'oh!!!!

I just realised. I restarted my pc after installing the demo. When I start my pc, a process starts called OSA9.exe which is the annoying office assistant. I don't know why but it constantly uses 95%+ of CPU time. I had completeley forgotten about this so tried to play the game without ending it.

That is why it was jerky.

I'll try it again tonight :)
 
I bought it tonight, just installed it, and am about to delve into the world of the unknown. Will post later with my first impressions. ;)
 
Anyone with the full version from the UK want a game sometime not next weekend. Because that will hopfully be the weekend i finally play people from GTPlanet in BF2.

Still trying to find the right balance of graphics and speed while running the 85 NVidia beta drivers, but i so need to change my 1GB DDR2700 ram to 2GB DDR3200 Dual Channel ram mates.
 
Just finished it! What a great game! If you're wondering if you should or shouldn't get this game, it's really a no brainer! It's awesome.

Finished the game yesterday. Fantastic, so involving and so well put together. Good plot too, although a blatant copy of The Ring films.

The surprise for me is the multiplayer though, I can't stop playing it. For me that's good because I'm a Counter Strike:Source man and I don't get on with any arcade online FPS games like Quake or Unreal tournament. F.E.A.R. multiplayer is just such mayhem and pure crazy fun. On all detail at maximum, high resolution and over 50FPS average it'll hit you like a sledge hammer, you'll shake your head and say "I want some more", very addictive.:)

Sounds like I should buy it just for the multiplayer alone. Almost every review I have seen has been a very good review. :) The only bad thing is it is very hard for me to play computer games on the comp without a controller. Can this game be set up on a controller?
I tried playing Half Life 2 deathmatch online again yesterday and after about an hour my hands get all cramped up using the mouse and keyboard combo.
 
That's the strange one, in my opinion it's almost impossible to match the same accuracy in aiming with a controller that can be achieved with a mouse.

With my mouse on really high sensitivity and customising the keys on the keyboard just right it feels more natural than any controller. I can never play FPS games on controllers.

But many controller gamers consider playing with keyboard and mouse really unnatural. I guess is down to what we're used to.

To answer your question though, without an infrared mouse and good keyboard, a very high specification PC and broadband don't bother buying F.E.A.R as you'll be disappointed. So a controller is out of the question.

Also here are my recommended PC specs to play F.E.A.R. how it's meant to be played are:

AMD Athlon XP(at least 3000), AMD Athlon 64(any), Intel P4 HT (at least 3Ghz)

2Gb RAM (at least PC3200)

Nvidia Geforce 6600GT, 6800, 6800GT, 6800 Ultra, 7800(any), ATI(at least x800)

Soundblaster Audigy(any)
 



Shotgun is the most useful gun in the whole game.

Right now I'm at interval 08... Wonder when the game freaking finishes.. it's not really scary anymore =/

I found the shotgun to be the least useful after the pistols. I started out with the SMG and later mostly used the assault rife. A couple times I used the shotgun or the sniper type gun.

I like the assault rifle more.
 
Shotgun is fun because you can blow the enemy's limbs off with it and even their heads. Than you can play football with their heads. Errr, not that I'd do something like that, it's a bit sick isn't it? No, not me.;)

But unless it's close action the shotgun is not the most useful weapon, the assault rifle is my favourite and it's much more useful than the shotgun overall.

I'm still playing the game online religiously, it's just so addictive.

Dunc, i always thought that getting a card with more RAM was better, and i'm hell bent on getting a 256 card now, but apparently you might find that 128 is still ok (? sounds weird, but people are claiming that some 128 cards are better than any other card in the price range)

E.g. for around £100 apparently the best card you can get is the nVidia (i know..) 6800LE. It's 128 Mb, but it works very and if you have some knowledge (i.e. google) you can mod it to run much faster.6800 cards.

The X700 card you mentioned sounds nice though. I love Saphire cards (my 9800 is a Saphire. It overclocked to a stable 450 MHz on aftermarket cooling, an increase of 50 MHz 👍 ). So.

Sounds like each card can be overclocked, take your pick. I can't guarentee either is good of course, but i'm sure both are better than your 9800.

Personally i'd take the X700 as the appeal on 256 Mb is still strong in me. And i love Saphire cards. More X700 cards.

Got this game today, and it runs amazing @ 1024x768

Everything on high as well as max AA(4x) and AF(16x) and it runs sweet.

did the video test at the start and lowest frame is 27. 35% is between 25 - 40fps and 65% is 40+ fps, avg is 51

This game is really nice!! 👍

This is completey playable.





These are glory shots, not playable in heated battle. Nothing different just better Resolution.



 
You should play on the last part of the last level, that can take the fight to the frames on your PC Small_Fryz. Also Vip you know those screens were done in the graphics benchmark on F.E.A.R.
