I never understood why this car got so much hate, I like it.

I still find it a strange car and it does go in this open space with these new cars BMW X6, BMW 5 GranTurismo, Porsche Panamera, ....

It is very big I find, misses elegance, but seems popular for people traveling a lot with larger families and that have the money.

It is good not to have standard cars for every brand almost the same, we do not need to like all of the experiments and there is no issue if someone does like them.

I still like the Fiat Multipla, also not very popular:

It's still an expensive, completely pointless, giant duvet of a car. In fact I think the old ones are actually more attractive if anything.

See, that's long and swoopy. The new one is short and stumpy. Bleugh.

That may be, but at least they add a bit of flair. The new one seems to have been styled to look like a GL has melted.

Interior looks like a Chrysler. Ugh.

The old car looked abominable. Seriously... would you spend Mercedes money on something that looked like an overweight toad? Considering Mercedes already sells reasonably attractive vans in other segments, that they tried to cross an MPV with a sedan and failed to achieve the attractiveness of their vehicles in either segment is strange...

The new car looks better, but it could be improved by having a shorter nose... build it for transverse engines or limit engine choices to a V6 to minimize that front overhang... do they really need to make it rear-wheel drive?

If they have to... oh well... at least give us an R63 AMG... :D

I always thought the R-Class was an ungainly niche-market car too far - until i clapped eyes on my first X1 this morning :yuck:

I didn't mind the original, so improvements are improvemental on this one. Clever packaging was always the selling point for me, I liked the interior and the seating arrangement(s) that were offered. I'd assume that a Blutec version would be pretty legit, a solid choice for an upper middle class family vehicle.

I like it. I like the old one too. Just wish AMG would do the pointless thing and install a V8.

They do. They even sold it here for a year. no-one bought it.

With a V8? I've never seen one and I'm keen on noticing AMG models of Mercs seeing as I worship the ground they drive on.

No-one probably bought one. Hell, there's also a 500-series "Normal" V8.

It appears these were dropped in Europe last year.

If I had the money, the R-Class would be my choice for traveling with wife, kid and dogs. I like it.

Since I don't have the money, I'll just keep on chasing an S-Max.

My uncle has a 2008 6cyl cdi awd model and for a minivan it is pretty darn nice. You know its a Mercedes when your sitting in one. If I HAD to choose a soccer mom mobile this would be it.

I'd take a Touareg for a soccer mom mobile...

I think the update makes it look a lot fatter. Maybe it's the wheels or the tires or the styling or some combination, but it looks a lot rounder and fatter than the old one.
