Thanks for your email Thomas. I appreciate your efforts to keep us informed, even if it is bad news. I am still debating canceling my order. I don't mind the wait until February now since I now have a backup steering wheel (G27). But, you have still not addressed my main concern below, quoting my own post earlier:

Thank you and best of luck.

Hey misterstatic, I like your question but I'm not sure Thomas will answer it because it would be him admitting that the GT2 has widespread hardware issues.

I am not sure that we even know that they have a widespread issue do we? I haven't seen many complaints about hardware issues outside of their official support forums, and you have to expect it would be saturated with those types of posts.

Thomas,

Thank you for the email update, sad but that's life I guess.

One question. Can we substitute the free mouse for something of equal or lesser value? I would prefer either the CS tuning kit (same price) or just the CS color kit of our choice?

That would be good. However I doubt they base it on retail value, they likely base it on their cost.

That's why when companies give away free cables with a TV or printer etc it's great for both the consumer and company because cables are dirt cheap (take a look at monoprice.com) however the retail value is high. So it costs the company next to nothing and the consumer benefits too.

I however have no use for that mouse.

I have the same question. If you look at the support forums for Logitech and Thrustmaster, you will surely see plenty of folks complaining about their wheels not working properly. Again, that is tech. I have seen no indication anywhere that there are widespread issues with any Fanatec wheel, other than supply problems, which are a problem for all wheel manufacturers given the demand created by GT5.

Decent question and given the extremely limited availability of GT2 wheels, what if we receive a defective unit, do we wait till May/June for a replacement on a wheel that we received early March that was paid for in December 2010? Or is there inventory kept aside for DOA replacements?

I am curious as to the answer to your question.

I will admit, and did admit, that the few are the loudest. So I am not alleging "widespread" issues. There have been some issues that I notice affect more than one GT2 user out there:

1. Bad fan installation causing rubbing against the cover.

2. Flimsy installation of shifter paddles.

3. Failing to connect to X360.

4. (Less crucial) Weak FFB.

I think these can all be resolved and are typical of a hardware first run. I think they should be addressed both by tech support for owners that have their wheels and by production improvements for those still in production. (not to mention those sitting in stock that should be tested for these issues).

But, this in combination with the existing tech support system, which many are dissatisfied with, is a problem for me. It makes me nervous to wait for the product. If I could be confident today that I would receive a fully working wheel, I would have no problem waiting. Even a higher confidence would be nice, since nothing is perfect.

^^^Your right, the difference is Logitech discussion is on the logitech site and they are very quick to lock an eliminate any defective product discussions. Pull up the site and you will see.

I think most of your issues are one offs. The Fan noise I have seen posted by two people total I think. I was also solved. I think I have seen one person with a 360 issue, and the paddles I can't understand at all. You have metal paddles that screw into the wheel though a metal adapter plate. I haven't seen any defective complaints on those. I will say the paddles are the one item I would like to see improved in future editions. It would be nice to have an all metal mechanism with no play.

I did have an issue with my first GT2 and it was replaced within a week. I think if there was a widespread defect rate you would be hearing and seeing a lot more discussions. I think it will have some bugs just like any new product, G25/27, and T500 included. But I don't think it's any huge failure rate, as you would already know about it.

I would also prefer such an option. I already have several perfectly serviceable mice, "gaming" and otherwise, and it's not by chance that none of them are festooned with multi-colored LEDs or sit atop mouse pads the size of Rhode Island. The cynic in me sees this as a means of reducing inventory of a product (the mouse) that probably isn't a hot seller while simultaneously trying to appease customers experiencing severe delays (I ordered the GT2 CS package on 12/4). A more sincere effort, at least appearance wise, would be to do as Kid Krinkle suggests and offer an accessory thats actually relevant to the product suffering delivery delays.

Now, the pragmatist in me realizes this would present yet another layer of potential logistical and customer service failures so I can understand why you've elected to pursue the current course of action.

In either case, I only hope this is the last chapter in the GT2 CS pre-order debacle and that I'll actually be able to use mine before the snow melts here in the upper midwest.

I would say be glad they are willing to give you anything.

Seriously though, www.playseats.com have the Turbo S with CSP in stock, same wheel, no alcantara.

Whether or not I receive anything above and beyond what I ordered is irrelevant to me and in no way affects my opinion of Fanatec. I'm only owed what was ordered and certainly not entitled to anything further unless agreed upon at time of sale. I was merely voicing my opinion that under the circumstances it would be a more meaningful gesture to offer something more relevant to the customers affected by the delay.

So as most of you have seen me say my GT2 + CSP went to Delivered status on 01/07 and I hadn't received a tracking number or anything other than an order confirm up until 01/13, today.

So I got a hold of Claudia in the U.S' email and asked her for the status and I got a reply almost immediately with 2 tracking numbers saying my package was shipped on 01/13.

I don't really get what happened, maybe they set it to Delivered status and then just left my box on the shelf, but apparently I'm getting somewhere now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Edit: I would add that even you, greekbull, had a bad wheel and had to exchange it, and the items I referenced were not "one-offs"

Yeah, I think I am out of this one. I am primarily a PC racer and the G27 suffices just fine in that area for me. For the money of the GT2 plus stand, I can get many things without the worry of a future problem. Good luck Fanatec, I sincerely wish you the best in the future. No hard feelings, just a disappointment as a customer. For those of you that get a good, working GT2 in February or sooner...have fun!

Are you also a PS3 GT5 junkie? If so, dont get toooooo excited. I was very excited after I had hooked the GT2 up to GT5 at how great I was expecting Forza3 to feel since this was the first time I woul dbe driving FM3 with a wheel.

I will nto lie, I was dissapointed. My expectation level we high, and in no way shape or form does FM3 with a wheel feel even half as good as GT5 does with the same wheel.

That was more of a let down to me than the entire Fanatec episode.

Even this superb wheel cannot improve how flat and arcadelike FM3 feels to me.

Maybe I am just not in the FM3 frame of mind anymore.

Really? I've read so many good things about FM3 and FFB being better in that game than GT5 and so on. I have a boxing day special XBOX 360 and FM3 Ultimate Edition waiting for the GT2 CS bundle. Also have GT5 lying in wait. Haven't opened the Xbox/FM3/GT5.

This is starting to worry me....all this money.

Yes I did have a problem and it was handled quickly(one of your worries). But there have to be hundreds if not a couple of thousand GT2 wheels sold to primarly if not exclusively online racing fans who frequent message boards. By far the most common thing your hearing from GT2 wheel users is satisfaction with the product. Thankfully my new wheel is working awesome as well.

So my main point is if there were widespread issues above and beyond normal new product quirks you would have pages full of angry wheel owners with defects.

I personally thought the FFB in Forza was better than GT5.

RC45, yes I'm a GT5 junkie and I had low expectations with fm3 but still found the game enjoyable.

I already know it's not gonna ve the same driving a wheel with fm3 compared to GT5, I feel fear and my palms get sweaty driving the ring with an F1 car. Lol

The only problem with this now, will Fanatec hold back any wheels for those with potential problems? I don't know the answer to that question...but if I had to guess....it would be probably not. So what's a customer to do if they do in fact need a wheel replaced?

I would hope they do hold back some inventory. It only makes sense that a small percentage will be defective so it's best to be prepared. But I don't know the real answer to that.

i have issues with 1+2 on my wheel. waiting on Fanatec(company not member here) to get back to me. i would say # 1 is a small % type issue. #2 i bet is on 90% of the GT2's out there. it has nothing to do with the wheel tho....its the adapter blocks. they rub against the wheel right under and above the paddle buttons. if 10 people that have the GT2 and have used the attached paddle shifters, i bet most would have those dig marks if they remove the paddles and blocks. they should send everyone replacement adapter blocks. ive seen a few people filing them down.

edit: id also like to add that the G27 shifters are way better because of this. you get a true press whether or not you hit it directly in the middle. on the GT2, you HAVE to hit it in the perfect spot. sometimes when i press down low it wont register. thats probably where block meets wheel and scrapes it. check it out all who have GT2.

Glad i read about the shifter blocks rubbing before i install mine, now where's my file.

As for the weak force feedback, i just got my GT2 a couple days ago and have only tried it on rFactor for a bit and i had to set my FFB a way down as it felt to strong for me.

Ok, my turn for a WTF? I just got an incomprehensible email from Fanatec that says my GT2 CSE is ... well I don't know, but I will get a free headshot mouse if I wait for it. It will either arrive in Jan or Feb or week 7 or 8... Anyway point is I still have no idea when I will get my shipment. 💡

On a positive note the CSP's finally arrived... in time for me to no longer be on holiday

Ok, so we don't die, tell us if the t500 pedals compare at all to the csp :)
