To sum it up, F&F created many wanna-bes. I suppose my sarcasm in my previous post wasn't obvious enough.
Nonsense. FnF opened your eyes to the scene, and it also made you able to join in the fun of ridiculing such pieces of garbage. But it was already there, just under the radar to most. That is what I meant by more noticable.

I know that the whole "tuner car" thing had been going on long before the movies. There were 3 or 4 guys around here into it. What I was stating was that now there were all these kids that wanted to be like the cars in the movies with cheap and useless mods. Those involved in import tuning before the movies, in my experience, had far less annoying and much more powerful/capable cars.

Like the guys before me said(sorry to reinforce, again), at lease where I live, it wasn't anything new. You saw far more wannabe ricers than quality tuned import cars.

I don't know where you live, but it is entirely possible that tuner/ricer scene were as you described where you live. Not around my neighborhood though(nor the live4speeds' or Toronados').

Its pathetic when you see all those Corsa's & "pugs" modified. They have no idea how stupid they look. I know if i even atempted to mod my car (Renault Clio RT) it would look stupid. The only thing i might change is the gear knob, as i got one free with Fast Car, and it will look better than my tatty old thing.

Back to the film. All the fast & the Furious' are enjoyable IMO, but the frist one is the only one i'd call a good film. 2 Fast is frequently bad, with some horrid CGi. Tokyo Drift, had the worst racing out of all three & the lead guy was just bad. I did like the look of the cars in Tokyo Drift though, they was generally better looking.

that top gear episode of the "modded" hatch against the Sprite comes to mind when I see Novas, Puntos and Saxos with crazy addons. Always good for a laugh

I actually watched this stupid movie a few days ago. I figured, "hot chicks, cool driving, a few wrecks, and apparently the plot isn't as god awful... sounds like a good time."

No.

This movie is horrible. Yes there is a little bit of good driving, there's also some increadibly stupid driving (see drifting in and out of traffic). The hot chicks are on the screen for about 2 seconds, whereas the main girl is VERY ugly and on the screen constantly. None of the characters make any sense, and the plot goes right off a cliff toward the end for the sake of setting up a big rivalry race.

The movie also has one unbelievably awkward scene in which the hero and the girl he's after are in a car drifting down some back roads in the moonlight. They're having a heart to heart on a romatic evening while she's driving the car sideways down the road. Did this make anyone else cringe? Drifting is loud, smelly, and on edge. You don't have a long talk about your childhood while you're performing synchronized drifting (especially at night). Unblievably stupid.

Skip this movie! If this was better than the first two, I can't imagine how awful they must be.

All 3 are poor in their own ways, it's true. The first film is still the best and i liked TD almost as much. The second film isn't as good as either.

I watched TD again a couple of days ago (second watching, first in cinema) and #1 it wasn't as good as it was in the cinema, #2 it is still an enjoyable film to watch. It's just a mindless car flick, nothing special, but it is entertaining.

So, after watching the film for a second time i can still say that it's worth seeing if you saw the first two. If like danoff you didn't see the first two then you should get some hard facts and opinions from others about the film before going to see it. It's not a guaranteed pleaser.

This movie is horrible.
May I suggest watching it the way I did?

Well, last night I drank too much while out with my friends and since the bar is in the same shopping center as the theater I went there to sober up. FF: Tokyo Drift started in five minutes and any other movie was going to be at least a 45 minute wait.

I don't know whether it was the inebriation or the movie but I walked out thinking it was pretty good.
Beer goggles make fat chicks and bad movies look great. :sly:

You have to admit, I gave the disclaimer that I had a good deal of alcohol in me before I ever started my review.

Well, my sis-in-law rented this movie last night. She's a car nut and likes to think she'd be a great tuner. Much lke my niece who wants to be an IT because she knows how IM and Myspace.

Back story set-up done, I was well pleasured by Lady_DA upon arriving home, and settled in with a beer and her for a movie. This one came up in the 5 disc carousel and we decided to give it a shot. She'd watched it earlier and got a good laugh.

Synopsis: I was humorously entertained by the movie. If anyone takes this movie as serious car fodder, they need their head examined. THis movie was as realistic as "Spiderman". The midnight synchro drifting was incredibly silly. Romantic? Realistic? Hilarious!

How about the group of high school kids rebuilding an american classic muscle car, in Japan, in no time. How many places in Japan do you think stock the entire glass supply for a late 60's mustang? Front Grill? Headlights and interior?

I guess what it boils down to is "I like cars, and I like live action Cartoons, Story not really applicable." I've honestly seen porn with better plot lines.

Am I the only one who thought this movie was great! Sure its plot was quite thin but the Toyko aspect and seeing something new really sold it for me, quite a wide variety of actors and the acting I thought was top notch (apart from the start)...... nice cars and races in an excotic setting although I was dissapointed when I found out that very little had been shot in Japan, even the school was in LA. The story was ok..... atleast there was one! I main guy (forgotten his name) they casted was a good choice, you could relate to him in a way and you do believe he is the midwest kinda character that he plays, all the characters were very interesting. The directing probably made it better, the scene where the vielside rx7 explodes and they leave the scene and get on the underground is a good example of setting the tone well.

I thinks its worth a DVD buy to be honest..... the first one is still the best but 2 did have its good points..... all in all the series has been good as a lighthearted piece of entertainment..... cant wait till the next one... would love it if they managed to keep the main character.

It comes out in a week or 2 over here, but will probably wait in purchasing. I rarely by DVD's full price, brand new. Wait till i can pick the 2 disc version up for a £5-6 (or if im lucky £3 in cash converters :).
