I clocked mine with a radar and a stop watch by a 3rd party person at an average of 7.5 seconds to 60mph in a stock '95 SE automatic. I find 8.0 to be a little long--but will conceed that auto mags probably got those numbers and I just have different results is all.

The number is from a source I have trusted for nearly ten years, which provides the best factual information out of all my sources. I trust this source more than anyone with a stop watch, especially because you actually owned the car, making you biased. I'm man enough to admit my car doesn't do 0 to 60 anywhere near as fast as I wish.

Read closely, I obviously agree with you about the 0-60 time of my car--I even stated that I conceeded that fact. THAT'S what being "a man" is all about. I'm NOT looking for a pety fight here so I'll stop posting in this thread. 👍

Saying an auto magazine got 8.0 and calling that an overestimation is crazy. If an auto magazine got 8.0, the vehicle does 0-60 in around fifteen seconds.

The GMC Syclone was only built for 1 year (1991) but it definitely belongs on the fastest vehicles of the last two decades list.

PS. The 300 hp. VR-4 is a sad joke sitting next to an MKIV Supra or FD RX-7. Having personally owned 2 out of the 3 cars and having raced all of them, I can say without a doubt in my mind that the VR-4 comes in last place.

Oh you will get lots of love from me for Sy/Ty's. M5 must like them too. But I can't justify paying almost 20k for a truck that old that can't even haul anything. Although, I always say they are the Skylines of trucks...just because it pissed people off.

It makes sense; high performance 4WD turbo six cylinder. I can't think of any other trucks that satisfy those criteria, or any truck that could be closer to a Skyline then that.

Sy/Ty and DSMs get no love here. :(

From what I hear, the number two poster on GTP owns a 1993 Typhoon.

Then again, that person has repeatedly promised BlazinXtreme he'd take some pictures of his Typhoon and has failed at doing so, so maybe not.

:D

one quick question.. what does a used pontiac gto sell for over there? i could imagine that its performance figures dont diff to much from the monaro.. from what i no.. so it aint that slow.. is it to expensive??

The base price on a 2005 Pontiac GTO is exactly $33000 US, which translates to $44500 AU. I imagine it will be notably cheaper than the Australian version, but that's due to taxation and stuff - my price does not factor in taxation, which varies by area.

Josh has a Typhoon? Speaking of which, where the hell is he?

Fastest car for 20k? That's easy. Something like a 1G DSM and a ****load of mods. Or, an EG hatch with a Prelude engine and slicks.

In all seriousness, a C5 Vette is where it's at. It'll run low 13s from the factory.

Where's he? Where the hell are you? I went to IM you about your idiocy and you weren't there.

Back to the old avatar, eh?

 What a post - no smiley, no punctuation, nothing!

I'll get the pictures - eventually.

Come on that was made late last night. So here is a morning refresher....

I still want pics :D.

Eventually!

Actually my car goes in for its supercharger Monday morning, so I have to drive around in the Typhoon for about four days. I'll be able to pixellate it then.

$17,299.20

Leaves you with $2700.80.

Folks, come on. You know the buyer is in the US. At this point, every single human on Earth knows TVR hasn't been imported for decades. And no, we never got the Opel Kadett Rallye either. Posts like that probably aren't helping him.

A used 3.4l FWD Pontiac Atek would slip under the $20k barrier.

It also slips over the 'everyone will laugh at you' barrier, and the '0-60 in more then 12 seconds' barrier.

(waits nervously for Doug to come up with the exact 0-60 time for that car and prove me right or wrong)

No, Doug may like them mechanically, but I don't think ANYONE can say ANYTHING about their looks without laughing or crying.

jamaican
lexus SC400
eclipse gsx/talon tsi... cheap, but fast when modded
mercedes 190E :D

I'll repeat that I have a friend with a 430 hp TSI she's selling for about $10k. Scary fast. New almost everything. Selling for less than half what she has into it.

Short of finding anything like that, I have to agree that the fastest stock car you'll find under $20k will be a C5 vette, probably a 97 or 98 with 80k to 90k miles. Faster than anything STOCK under $20k, and most things even modified.

The twelve-second barrier is a tough one to cross these days, even for a relatively underpowered vehicle with a relatively heavy body and a conservative transmission. Still, I can't think of a consumer-market V6 that does 0-60 in under 11. (I say consumer-market because it occurs to me I don't know what base engine is inside a Dodge Sprinter, though I have a feeling it's a five-cylinder) Aztek hovers right around the 9-second mark: about 8.9 with two-wheel drive, and 9.2 with all-wheel drive.
