if the game is not fun and you're just trying to get through it quickly, why play it at all? Why not move on to something in which you're genuinely interested?
I played through the game pretty quickly (without actually cheating though, as cheattricks as posted here usually slow you down), because I´m not really interested in the gaming itself, but rather the cars. Well over 700 cars to try out is simply irresistable! This being said, I am genuinely interested in the cars, but have little interest in GT4´s gameplay, mainly due to the lack of AI skill. Sure, there is OLR, but currently I´m too busy testing cars!

I second that opinion. I wouldn't say I finished the game quickly as such, as I often paused from progressing through the game to buy new cars and just drive them. But I 1-pointed and b-specced my way through large chunks of it to get to a point where I have access to all the cars. I am enjoying the game more now that I have completed it because I can pretty much drive what car I want to, where I want to, and I can pick and choose any race I feel like doing at the time and don't have the pressure of having to win it. All of a sudden, second place, third place or even fifth place can be an achievement without me having to go back and collect a gold cup. I am now free from the completion goal and can enjoy the depth of GT4.

Yeah, I'll do things for more than just winning a race. There are tons of cars out there unlocked only by winning a series. The HSC in the Type-R races. I really hate front-wheel drive cars, especially in this game. So I buy a completely suped-up '02 NSX Type-R and desimate the series while using what dirty tricks I can (haha, talk about over-kill) just to hurry the series up and win the car to experience what that car has to offer. I'm satisified with GT4 in more ways than just the winning/racing apsect, and I'm sure that's fine with PD because of how much effort they put into the game. I'm in it for experiencing new cars and to tweak them to their fullest potential. And to see my completely cusomtizable car destroy the likes of Zonda's and SLR's... it just fuels my fire and makes me want to play more the way I do. And this is just a small example of what other satisfactions GT4 has to offer. I'm not robbing anything, but maybe realizing that there's more to be satisfied from.

:ouch: If any mods want to give me a tempory ban for using dirty tatics, make it this weekend, I am going away for 5 days! :scared: :nervous: :indiff:

Back to more serious things now guys.💡
Should the rating system be de-activated for threads like this one that are more opinion based and not fact based?👍
I do not know how much the rating system is being used, but surely opinions should not be rated.

Mods, how much use is the rating system getting any way?

It gets used quite regularly, and it's quite useful for us to see when there's a community feeling that someone is slipping or performing.

I don't think it has been used in this thread at all though - people seem to recognise that opinion (except when it's poorly expressed) isn't an indicator of post quality. Indicative of this is just how little the rating system is used in the Opinions forum - and some posts in there get very heated.

Thanks for the quick reply Famine, its good to see members are using a common sense approach.
I have read the insructions in the rating thread and followed them to see what my rating is in " My GT planet" and have not found anything about my rating. I know my rating value (reputation) by clicking on red tick in my posts, but where is the rating? Or dont I have anything?

At present, the only way for a member to find out which of their posts have been rated is to manually go to each one and click on the red tick.

Your current rating is consistent with the default value plus your length of membership (1 point per full year) plus your post count (1 point per thousand posts), meaning that either you've not had a post rated yet (which to an extent is understandable, since you're not that "prolific", so you haven't made that many posts since the system was introduced) or that the amount of positive points you've received are identical to the number of negatives (more unlikely, as most active members have different points-giving-abilities - dependant in part on their point totals and the factors I named above).

My favorite dirty trick ? Well, be as clean and consistent as I can, but I think that this is known as racing. So I guess I neither have nor need any dirty tricks.

Well, playing with the CPU cars on the test track with my GT1 TS020 going in the wrong direction. Do you know what happens to a NSX type R when you hit it at 305 mph? Yeah, funny stuff:)

Jajaaaaa...that's hot :trouble:

The only "dirty" trick I use on a regular basis would be putting the tires on the rumble strip and using it for extra grip during hard cornering, I guess you could call this the "gutter run". This trick works in the tunnels on Grand Valley aswell and it looks awesome when you do it! It's also a handy trick to use to pass the brain-dead A.I. 👍

I found the rally part of the game to be boring so I did a lots of wallrides ( I know shame on me :guilty: ). Otherwise, I always try to race as clean as possible, trying to avoid the AI cars while they are stick to their ''racing-line'' :dunce:

When i'm racing against another person i use a car that is slower most of the time. When i come out of a corner which is followed by a long straight i hit the brakes and immediatly hit the throttle again. That way the other driver hits you and slows down and you get a big boost :)

I used a very dirty trick on the AI once. That was on the test track. The ai brake a bit when they start cornering, so that i can move up to them real close.
Then i've hit the ai in front of me on the back left wheel, so that he hits the wall and starts sliding down, then i immediatly hit the brakes so that the ai driver behind me passes me and hits the sliding car. Quite spectecular :)

Hmmm. I would think that is known as gentleman racing to be honest. Many professional racers (and teams) will do whatever they can get away with to win. Touring car drivers use as much contact as they can without putting themselves out of the race. BAR used a dubious fuel tank setup to save weight. In 1990 March used flexible undertrays that met the flat bottom regulations at rest but were concave at speed to give some ground effect.

The "consistent" bit, I agree, is a required race winning quality. It's the "clean" bit which I think falls foul of the need to win in modern racing.

The worst thing I have ever done (don’t kill me for this one) was to qualify for the purpose of sabotaging the highest point standing car below me so that I could skip an extra race. Don’t blame me, I could have won but I was short on time and I had to do a research paper. By the way, playing dirty tricks does not mean that you are misusing the game/simulator; it only means that you ABSOLUTELY DESPISE THE AI!!!!!!!!!🤬 :banghead:

By clean I mean not over driving the car.

I have a bad habit of doing that, then I relize that a 80's ****box is only capable of so much so I slow down, I just got done driving on Tsukuba in a stock '89 GT-R with S2 tires equipped and I improved alot IMO. :) My time was in the 1:05 range. I just have to remember to be consistent and cool.

Once in the 5th race of the DTM I b-specced the race and before the 1st turn the AI actually made me spin out on to the side of the track!!!
Man I sure was, you know, because I was a 1/4 lap behind!!!

the only dirty driving I do is if the AI hits me or launches me off the track, I come back car-a-blazing style and ram the AI car off the road into the wall and get him stuck so it comes in 6th place or gets a DNF for the race

I only drive dirty in revenge or for entertainment in the latter part of an endurance race. But when I do, AI beware. I will ram, push, shove and dee-muddafuggin-stroy!

Since I hate the rallying and ice racing with all of the hate in my body... I basically ride around every tight corner, and as long as your a** end hits the corner first... no stupid 5 sec penalty... Did I mention that I hate rally/ice racing?

hello everyone first post! ...and new to GT series

i finished a, b, ib licenses but i am having a devil of a time getting used to having other cars on the track (I can't shift, brake, turn, and gas real well yet...let alone pay attention to other cars)....so I do anything i cant to get any position (5th included:yuck: ) I usually resort to grinding other cars off on the turns.

I hope to clean up my style some but at this point i'm strugglin for credits in my stock sunfire....tell me it gets better?! Wish my b-spec driver would take some tips from me....he's even worse than me.

anyone have a good setup for the Golf Mkv? Saving for this one right now....

Hi, Recover, and welcome to GTPlanet.

Setups are found in the Settings & Tuning board of the GT4 forum. Look up at the top of this index page and you'll see it.

My recommendation to you is to start hitting the Used Car lots and buy something moderately powerful and rear wheel drive. FWD cars (like your Sunfire) are difficult to drive well in GT4 because understeer is so strongly modelled. Look for maybe a 1996-99 RX-7 (last generation, also called FD). That will have decent power and handling to match.

Also, try searching for 'driving tips' on the GT4 board. There you will find some valuable threads on general driving technique that will help you improve. I will start by saying that nearly all beginner driving problems are caused by braking too late. Brake early in a straight line, then ease up as you turn in, and squeeze the power back on as the car settles into the turn.

Thanks for the warm welcome Duke!

I've actually been on this web site for weeks for many hours leading up to my purchase of GT4 ....so thanks to this site its not so much as knowledge that i lack its the skill. I have the habit of tapping the analog instead of a smooth input...my lines are okay but i think the lack of smoothness is killing me.

...through searchin and (the one A test) i found that the mkv behaves more like a FR than most FF but i couldnt find a set up for it. I think I'll put that aside and concentrate on winning for now and grab a RX-7 you suggested.

Sorry for the OT'ness:dopey:
