Probably there's a "Fastest" thread, but I can't find it. If anyone can, I will merge the two.

Found one.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=163790&highlight=quickest+ff

I remember seeing multiple threads on this, but I can't seem to find the others.

Well, thats "fastest FF" and This thread is about "the best FF", which means your favorite FF car, regardless if it is fast or slow.

You may merge it, if you find it appropriate.

Most people seem to confuse the two. Personally, I think this is an okay duplication (simply because few people talk about FF on this board except to complain  ), but if another mod disagrees, the threads may be merged shortly.

A MK1 Golf works quite well as a cheap FF,
Also a Honda Today G for those on a cheaper budget.

Honda city turbo is also quite funny, 250+bhp 666kg needs some good tuning though. Can't get mine to stick the front (surprise surprise). My 177bhp mini is a laugh and my 200+bhp ford ka is actually one of my better ff cars.

Id have to say the Mugen Motul Civic 87 and the Gathers Driders Civic 98 are my faves, closely followed by that TRD Celica with a long name

If I had to pick just one it would be the Spoon Integra Type R. If I had to pick two, the Spoon Civic Type R also. If I had to pick one to race in, though, it would be... Probably the Gathers Drider Civic, just because everyone has the Motul Mugen one.

I love FF cars, why arent sports cars FF?

There are a number of front-wheel drive sports cars, including the Daihatsu Copen, the Lotus Elan and the Fiat Barchetta.

If you ignore the requirements for a sportscar to be a roadster, then the Integra, Celica, Tiburon and Eclipse (at least the early, non-lard-laden ones) are all sportscars.

Not this old chestnut again

Hey, I don't invent the definitions. And no, we are not going there in this thread.

Are we? :D

Well my favourite FF car in the game has to be the 98 Honda Integra DC 2 Type R. It just handles so well out of the used car dealership. Its also thougroughly engaging listening to the engine note harden during the 2nd cam change and using its pin point accuracy around tight twisty turns.

I think withing GT5 you could argue there are 4 types of FF cars,

-NA powered
-Turbo powered
-LSD eqipped
-Race Modified / Racing cars

I think the race cars/race modded for the best FF car is not fair as you could not use them on the road as they would be too hardcore and gutless under certain RPMs ( i do realise it is a game, yes ). Plus they are stripped, there is no interior .

Of the turbo powered and NA powered FF's i prefer the immeadiate response and balance of a NA powered high revving motor to a turbo charged engine with a lot of low/mid end torque. True the torque can pull you very quickly out of slow speed exits and yes they do surge ahead with minimul fuss in there powerband. However i love the response of the NA cars engines during a corner and when lifting / reapllying throttle not to mention the noise !

Of more importance to a FF car has to be the LSD equipped cars, there is no denying FF cars with a LSd are alot quicker around a twisty track and on take off. This is due to the fact they do not let one wheel spin aways its power. It locks both wheels and pull it forward.

On some cars the LSd can be felt being a bit grabby in the game (most likey the higher torque engines, the turbo charged FFs) .
Cars like the Ford Focus RS amd Renault megane when on full throttle coming out a of a tight corner and you apply full power it goes slightly wide of your chosen line, ie like understeer. as soon as you come of power it goes back to the intended line. True if those turbo charged cars didn't have and LSD they would just spin there front wheels in a cloud of smoke going completly wide of your line out of a tight corner. but its amazing that in a game you can feel/see this effect !

I love the fact that the Integra and Civic FD2 just slightly pull outwards of a tight corner on full throttle due to there lack of torque (compared to the turbo cars ). Also with the NA engine you can balance the throttle 50% / 66% and as you clip the apex just stomp on the gas and let the LSD pull you out of the corner as you fire towards the redline and the straight.

I really do love FF cars in Gran turismo, they seem to have got the feel / simulation aspect of the FF cars spot on. Thats just my view. I've been lucky enough to drive or own alot of the FF cars in the game .

True RWD cars do offer more playabilty /longer learning curve and more to learn about the physics of how a car handles but a good FF car can just about do 90% as much.

So enough typing i guess, its just i love cars and FF's are great as is GT.

So in Gran Turismo my favourite FF cars are in order of my favourite to less so

Honda Integra DC2 Type R 98 ( upgraded slighty over the 96 spec )
Ford Focus RS
Renault Clio Sport 172
Honda Civic FD2 Type R ( saloon, JDM only )
Honda Integra DC5 Type R
Mini Cooper S
Renault Megane sport (5door premium)
Nissan March 99 ( Modded NA on sport comforts with a LSD its a revalation with just 142bhp)
Golf GTI mk 1
Original Mini Cooper

of the Race cars it has to be

Integra Touring car
Mugen civic 88
Xsara rally car FWD
RM ITR DC5
Gathers drider Civic

Also why do people choose to put more than 350bhp on FWd to me that like a waste, its not even useable unless on those silly highly sticky no fun tyres .

whats the use of wheelspinning ang bashing in to everything just to go lightspeed on the straights ,

The Fun is in and around the corner the straights are just the "ghey" bits that join the corners !

have fun in GT !

Perhaps a rename for this to "Favourite FF" is more appropriate, then? Since machate-man clarified, that put some clear distance between the two since it'd be obvious this is based on preferences 👍

Personally, I've been having a ball with my "Cup-spec" 147 2.0. 220hp, and slightly heavier than the real thing, but on Sport Mediums it's a pointy little thing, and still rotates decently around turns. A lot more fun than expected. Other than that I don't own many front-drivers; a replica Megane R26R being the only other one I've driven recently, and it was also fun, but still more road-biased than the Alfa, and therefore slightly more frustrating.

OK, all this namby pamby stuff is getting old. I'm time trialing both the SRT4 and Trial Celica. Maxed out, all mods, SRF on, damage off, GR low for the lowest lap times.

I was able to get 51s with both cars on Clubman stage route 5. The Trial Celica is, however, superior due to it's smoother supercharged power band. The SRT4s turbo makes it much more difficult to achieve the same time as the trial Celica.

So now we ask ourselves... What other FF car might be able to beat the
TRIAL CELICA SS-II (ZZT231) '03
1931cc engine with supercharger 400hp
970kg

Any ideas?

Alfa Romeo 147 Twin Spark (premium) fully tuned no turbo installed by far one of my favorite FF car of all times!

I see that "Favorite" makes more sense than "Best". Will change name.

GT5 or Real life?

Fastest is debatable. Debatable in the sense that what's fastest in a straight line will not always be fastest on all the tracks.

But what cars are contenders? My earlier test proved to me that the trial Celica and SRT4 are evenly matched for lap times. Any other FFs? I was expecting more people to bring up rally cars, but maybe the Rally cars are too power limited... I don't know.

Not a big fan of FF's, but I like the Hondas. When they aren't riced obviously.
