I am starting to catch on with the 599. An excellent Ferrari.
Also the record holder for this track, the SR8 doesn't have a roof, and is pretty useless in everyday applications. So to say it's a street car because it's street legal is a joke.
Is the Zonda R production derived?
Definitely, it may be quite different to the Zonda F but the Zonda Cinque is the road legal version of the R.
I've been doing a bit of Googling for a Zonda R Nurburgring lap time but I don't think it's done one yet. No doubt they will be rectifying that shortly...I hope
It'll be interesting to see the differences in lap times between the 599XX and Zonda R, I imagine the 599XX may have the advantage due to the fan system.
the miata is technically a convertable, and has a soft top, the radical does not. unless they made a hard top version, it's pretty much a street version of LeMans prototypes
While that may be true, many Miata owners will contend that it's not useless on the road when driven with the top down (solution to rain in the cabin: drive faster)...
How about the Murcielago Roadster? Many will argue that the soft-top, which takes ages to put up, isn't much better than no top at all (especially since it's not designed to take more than half of the velocity the Murcielago is capable of...).
"Production-derived" is such a weaselly term. Tuner cars are all "production-derived". Homologated racecars and cup cars are "production derived", as well...
^Exactly! Throw in a GT1 car and see what time that can produce... Looking at the stats of the cars, and assuming they run on slicks, I´d say the 599XX is slightly quicker than a F430 GT2 (compared to the XX - lighter, less power, less DF), but not as fast as a 575 GTC (compared to the XX - lighter, less power, more DF).
The Zonda R is really in a league of its own in this case. At full tilt it produces more than 2 tonnes of DF, that´s group C levels! And with current tyretech, it should outrun an old group C car.
i don't think the Zonda is that fast. Those group C cars are closer to F1 cars than anything. Weight around 2000lbs. HP around 800+ and their downforce was greater than some F1 cars around that time period. The Zonda F is fast but i don't see any street car coming that close to those Group C cars. But if there were I guess the Zonda would be one of the best bets. But the 599XX is as fast as the FXX according to ferrari.
ok, this is the 2nd time someone has taken my comment out of context. I stated that the radical doesn't have a roof. someone else said neither does the miata. i said, the miata is a convertable, the radical is not. Regardless of it being street legal there is no convertible version, soft top or hard top. The Miata is different, it's a production much the same as the radical, but it's not so radical.

Video: Stig vs Ferrari 599 GTO
What happens when the man the Italians call Signor Stiggini gets behind the wheel of the fastest Ferrari ever, the 599 GTO?
Speed, noise and driftiness, that's what happens. On the launch of the ultimate 599 last week, our man Bill Thomas was brutally wrestled from his test car by the not-especially-tame racing driver, who proceeded to set off on a series of brutally fast and brutally sideways laps in the 661bhp hypercar.
We managed to grab a few shaky cameraphone clips of what went down. Click the links below to watch four short videos of the Stig doing Bad Things to the 599 GTO... and make sure you pick up the new issue of TopGear magazine on May 19 for the full story.
