Let's try to conclude this:
In August of 2003. I had an rare opportunity for stand-alone interview with Kazunori at PlayStation Experience London. Among other things we discussed in that 45 mins (the short transcrpit of that talks still lies somewhere in archives at
www.granturismo.com) I was wvery intrested in little roumor I heard just day before I flew to London - one of my sources told me there is a possibility that GT4 will have an "outstandigly long track in the game". First thing I thought was "Nurberging". It was a more then year ago from now.
When I asked him about that - about the roumour of a track 4 times longer that any track we saw in GT games so far - he said that he would like to have (Nurb) inside, but "due to technical limitations of PS2, there is no possibility that any track of that lenght could be implememted in the game." Period.
Just four months later, first mug-screens of Nurb has appeared worldwide.
When I asked him about the LeMans, he said "I'm not sure for the track, but you can expect a very distinctive amount of LeMans vehicles, from the history and recent ones". Three months later, japanese Prologue showed us an movie-clips of LeMans history vehicles being filmed in some spectacular museum of automotive history.
When I assked him about the Ferrari and Porche, he just said it was not in his primary focus. Six months alter the totally new footage appears in european Prologue with almost full minute of Ferrari inside.
I don't want to presume anything, but on Nurb example I can say that aven PD people are not always fully truthfull, due to various PR reasons.
The time will tell. As for myself, I'm very certain of LeMans being in, but it is just IMHO.
OH, yeah - about the live4speed's "PD don't have the funds" statement: Gran Turismo series is the best ever selling game franchise on the world - as for May 2004, GT series has sold in 34 millions units worldwide, making it the all-around record breaker in many fields. As the game revenues before taxing for publisher are 65% of the price, it is pretty easy to calculate that gross amount of earnings for GT series for PD and Sony (as PD is an official subsidiary of Sony Computer Entartaimenat Japan) is about lousy 1 billion and 320 millions dollars. It is good to be PD stake-holder, you can take my word for that.
