Not sure if you're being sarcastic here, but the answer is: because, when you're spending a lot of money on a car, speed is only one factor. Most people are not purely rational beings, and prefer Italian aesthetics and racing pedigree over boring Japanese efficiency.

Yeah anything that makes sense gets thrown out the window when you are willing to shell out that much for a car.

I doubt anyone who bought the Veyron worries about the gas mileage.

But the guy who had that Ferrari commissioned could have at least added some more chest hair to the performance side of things.

You basically said it yourself. Ferrari is for irrational people, rational people, that actually know stuff about cars....would prefer a GOOD, efficient, quality-rich Japanese car. Ofcourse I'm not being completely serious here because I know those overpriced Italian cars have something sexy. It's design, it's sound...sure it's great. But I don't think it's necessary to call Japanese cars boring. An Evo is everything except boring.

For some people, shelling out tons of money on a car is what buying an icecream is to you. And they commission special cars like this, because they're passionate about the concept of 'car', rather than the concept of 'performance'.

Nothing to do with having a small 'weener', everything to do with having a developed sense of appreciation for the finer things in life. Our value systems are not all identical, you know.

They are not overpriced - it's maybe for slightly different purposes, and for different peoples.I like speed and beauty - Ferrari is for me.
Second thing is that GT is just game - you won't get a real car, with all it's consequences e(make quality, interior feel etc...)
I mean - really - I like it - and happy with it!As I happy with my GTR and Supra!They are just different.
But I agree fully - for the money - I'll get a good Japanese car!

Yeah but sometimes the aesthetics get annoying.

For example, in my cousin's E 350 from 2005 has the door locks on the center console somewhere, or on the dash. But not on the door. Why is not on the door itself? And don't say for safety reasons because a Child can still reach for the locks.

Sorry off-topic, but Ferrari also made some stupid decisions on the 458 to incorporate almost everything on the steering wheel.

By the way, if you have to explain things like a car, then it aint cool. Like the Nissan or Subaru. If you say Nissan GTR, people will think a riced up Nissan. If you say Ferrari, they will want you to go on.

You're pretty much contradicting yourself because you were the one starting the "Japanese boring efficiency" crap.
I know exactly what you mean with appreciating the finer things in life. I buy extremely expensive clothes, not saying I look down to people who buy cheaper clothes, but that's exactly the point you're trying to make with "appreciating the finer things in life". My girlfriend is the most beautiful girl/woman I've ever met. But I'm with her because of what's inside of her.

And it's not like (for example) an NSX is a cheap car, so I think the "for some people it's like what buying an icecream is for you" defense is pretty much worthless. The whole idea behind buying a Ferrari makes me sick. It's all like "look at me, I'm rich and don't know what to spend my money on."

Fezza's and lambos might not appeal to you but when Honda started building the NSX it was not on the level of the Ferrari's or lamborghini's and it never was. It never performed as well, looked as good, drew a crowd or had the pedigree of the true supercars

And this is EXACTLY the reason why I hate people that own a Ferrari. I hope you're not their representative because you're explaining exactly my point. Still, as long as we agree that the value of a car is more than just the sum of it's parts and performance. It's about enjoyment (like you say). And some people get fun out of driving a car - others get all ecstatic just admiring the beauty and design of one. The latter sort of people buy exotics like the SP1.

Again: it's not a rational decision to buy this sort of car - unless you see owning one of these merely as an investment.

If we were all rational beings, we would all be queueing up at the Nissan dealer to buy ourselves a GT-R (..well..actually.. I wish I could afford one but you get my drift ).

I got nothing against Ferrari. I actually want to buy one later on in life if my future career allows me to, and drive it at or below the speed limit just to tick people off behind me.

How the hell does that make me a hypocrite? I mean...it may have been not JUST as good as a Ferrari but heck....there's a gentlemen agreement to not pass the 280 hp, and on top of that, it's not as expensive as a Ferrari/Lambo.
