Final Fantasy XIII

LMAO @ those videos  I love how clueless the one guy was.

I wouldn't watch them though if you haven't gotten to the Eidolon parts yet as they are spoilers. Plus I heard a couple F-bombs, just to let people know.

With reference to the second video:

I was struggling against Odin, and needed a 'hint' from that second video, which was to use the Spark Ring accessory. I only had one available (the other was being used by another character) so I gave it to Lightning and maxed it out (raising it's effectiveness from 20% to 30%). It does make a big difference, since without it I wasn't getting very far against Odin. That said, my basic strategy was correct, I just needed better defence... using a combo of "Double Dose" (Medic/Medic) and "Dualcasting" (Ravager/Ravager), it seemed to work well. Wait until both players have good HP before attacking, and switch back to healing immediately! Also, I was chaining 4 attacks and only 2 cures, since often waiting on 4 cures was too long

Without watching the video, this is what I did:

Hope was doing Medic and Light was the Ravenger. It beat him quite easy with around 400 on the Doom clock to go. The only time I swapped roles was at the beginning to get Hope to cast protect/shell on everyone so I wouldn't die easy.

G.T

I did this same strategy and it worked. :)👍

I don't even remember what I did regarding the second video. I know I died twice before I figured it out, but that third time wasn't much of a struggle at all. Pretty sure I had plenty of time left on the clock.

Hey, I'm new to the Final Fantasy franchise and just wanted to know how difficult Final Fantasy 13 is? Also are there differrent difficulty levels eg easy, normal, hard?

Pretty easy. My 6 year old was rockin it pretty hard last night! There is only one difficulty setting, but there are different playing styles you can use in the battle system. You can Auto Battle, or make things as difficult as you want.

It definitely is pretty easy - most of the time. And then you get hit with a battle that sees whether you have been paying attention or not! The Auto Battle feature is useful, but it isn't optimal - and against the bosses, you really need to be more creative. That said, I haven't had any major problems (yet!) and I'm 15 hours in, and a dunce at RPGs.

I just hit the 22 hour mark last night and part of the campaign actually shocked me for the first time. Shortly after that I found a great spot to grind for exp. I can kill a few enemies, save, then walk back and do it again. It has helped me experiement with weapons, powers, and some team paradigm shifts. As I mentioned above this is my first FF and yes its quite easy and very linear but in a good way. If you ever do get stuck on an enemy its best to experiment with the paradigm shifts. I am just loving this game and so far Fang is my favorite character. That staff she uses is just so awesome and I have it leveled up to 7. Lightning is good too. 👍

Sorry CAMAROBOY69 (and everybody else), didn’t realize I was revealing something that specific. Anyway, fixed.

Entering chapter 11(nights where short!), I've now reached the level where you raise the kids and turn them into weapons of massive destruction. While Chapter 10’s final boss already gave me some serious trouble at first try, I would also rate this game as rather "Easy and Straightforward". On the other hand however, I confess myself "Completely Addicted". :)👍

Try not to give away what happens in later chapters. Some people are still just starting out or are in the middle of earlier chapters.

I played a bit more last night, i believe i'm on Chapter 11, snow came to the rescue and is now partnered up with hope (that won't spoil anything for anyone). Really enjoying the game. Most of the time i'm using auto-battle just focusing on the correct paradigms to get the Stagger meter up. On boss battles i use the libra and Synergist to get defense up and then manually input whichever command is most effective. So far so good, the cut-scenes are amazing, reminds me of the same picture quality of the Resident Evil Degeneration movie. :)👍

That would be chapter 7 not 11...

There is a way to change the difficulty--sort of. In the options menu you can speed up (or slow down) the battle speed, which should add a challenge to those who are looking for a harder game, or vice versa.

Seems like that would also slow down your battle speed? right? Or just the enemy? I am around 23 hours and so far I have been doing ok. If I get stuck on an enemy I just experiment with different paradigms.

I don't know if it's just me, but lets say i'm in a battle with 2-3 of the same enemy types, for example i'll use the Ravage/Ravage paradigm to get the stagger meter to raise and not drops so quickly, then usually switch to commando/ravage, to deal more damage once they are staggered, then moving on to the same enemy, when i try the same thing it doesn't work as well (in the same order) i usually end up switching back and forth 2-3 times and that gets the Stagger meter climbing a lot quicker. Should the process be the same for all enemies of the same type, or does it differ from each individual enemy? Either way it's a great game so far.

I have been using the auto-battle for the most part, except for bosses. But it seems during some battles, choosing each individual command would take up a lot of time and you would take more damage/attacks as the enemies don't wait for you to decide what you're doing, they just keep hammering you.

^ Yes I also have to switch back and forth quite a few times depending on the characters and depending on the enemies. I usually start by building up a good defense then I start attacking. I always have a medic paradigm on stand by once our health drops very low. Further you get in the game the more you will have to switch your paradigms. I also use the auto battle 95% of the time. Make sure you use your Libra on every enemy to find their weakness and their strength. Again it really depends on the characters you have for that battle. Some characters do much better in battle, others not so much. I still have a hard time with Vanille and Sazh but I built them up a lot yesterday so they are doing better. I think they have around 1,100 hp now. I also finally switched their weapons.

Thats another thing i was wondering, with the Libra ability, do you have to do it at the start of Every battle, or once you scan that enemy type, does the information get stored/remembered? Since it uses up a TP point everytime. I usually end up using it when i encounter a new enemy type.

I only use it on new enemies. When I enter battle with enemies I tap the RB (on the 360) and that pulls up the enemy stats and tells me about them. Keep tapping it and it switches to every enemy on the screen. If I have never used the libra then it will have ?????? for every category for that specific enemy. So from my experience you only need to use it 1 time per that enemy type. Basically you dont need to use it unless you see ???????. When you use libra make sure to target the enemy you have not used it on. Otherwise it wont work.
Also I edited my post above with some more info.

You may need to use Libra (skill) 2-3 times to get all the info but after that you can check all the info in the datalog, or in battle by pressing R1 or R2 (forgot wich...), no need to spent TP after getting all the info, also in boss fights you don't need to scan the boss since it is always unlock after the battle in the datalog (well it's better to do so, since it changes the AI of the party, as well as allow you to know the weakness of the enemy... but then you can also see that in a FAQ...)

Han_The_Dragon is correct. You do need to use the Libra 2-3 times on some of the enemies. I experimented with it last night. Basically if you see any ?????? on the enemies it means you still need to use the Libra on that enemy..

I passed the "major" 25 hour mark in this game last night and holy crap it was no joke. Now I have 27 hours total. Its just getting insane now. This is easily GOTY 2010 at this point. Its going to take one heck of a game to top this one this year.

What Chapter are you in? I reached ~25 hours last night, but I'm playing quite slow I think - I just finished Chapter 7...

I have also been taking my time and I am pretty sure I just finished level 9. It was a main enemy and took me a long time to beat. Now I am on level 10.
This was the enemy.

Barthandalus. He took me 19 minutes to beat but it was the best battle I have had so far.

I wasn't convinced after all the magazine reviews I've read, but you guys are changing my mind, I take it, the game still looks impressive on the 360?
