Is it like the gear ratio example: 4:10 ratio or is it something else

I was wondering about this also, and what the relationship is to the gear ratios, if any. How does increasing or lowering final gear effect performance? I saw a calculation based on car weight and horsepower which leads me to believe it's a completely independent variable. but of course, each tuner has their own way of doing it.

Thanks

^ The transmission sends torque through the final drive ratio before it reaches the wheels. So final drive affects every gear the same way, making them all longer or shorter while maintaining the same gear spacing.

Example:
If you have
*From an engine that turn at 10.000 RPM (axel of the motor)
*to a gearbox with a gear ratio 5,000
*to a diferential with a final gear 2,000 to the wheels axels

It will give

(10.000 rpm/ 5,000)= 2.000 rpm after the gearbox

(2.000 rpm/ 2,000) = 1.000 rpm after diferential at the wheels axels

If your tires have 2 meters of perimeter then in

1 minute= 2.000 meters

1 hour =2.000x60 = 120.000 meters = 120 km or 120kmh

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Supposing that : Ring gear teeth number = 50 teeth and pinion gear teeth number is 10

final gear is 50 / 10 = 5,000

On a side note, we should be allowed to change the final drive without having to purchase a racing transmission. :grumpy:

Another thing Hybrids are good for...

I'm curious what your logic behind that is.

I understand technically the tranny and diff are separate. However there is no such thing as adjustable transmitions. You simply change the physical gears. In the game I figure its more paying for the ability to change the gears as much as you like, since the FD impacts all gears it's a part of the package.

In the real world you can't play around with gear like we can in the game, well technically you can but it's a ton of work, super expensive and more work then what clicking around in the game represents.

Muscle car guys do it all the time. I did it with my personal car (Miata). Changing the final gear ratio to get better acceleration without having to change the transmission. This can be done in real life and is done all the time.

In GT, you can't adjust the final drive without buying a customizable transmission = not realistic.

It should be an option alongside the close-ratio transmissions, and cost between the Close and Racing gears. It should give a PP boost if applied to muscle cars however as they desperately need top speed and there is little detriment to acceleration due to their wide powerband!
