As I explained in my previous post #30, that ALL boils down to traction. If they are using stock Prius tires, the car is worthless and will not be beating anyone on or off the track.Just a matter of whether it actually works or whether it's an elaborate set up.
I meant is it just a set up to go viral or is it actually a ridiculous project. Whatever way, it's definitely never going to be anything effective on track. As I explained in my previous post, that ALL boils down to suspension and traction. If they are using stock Prius tires. The car is worthless and will not be beating anyone on or off the track.
You don't need to have 295's on it for it to have traction, especially if that engine ends up being stock. Suspension doesn't need to be ridiculous either. As I explained in my previous post #30, that ALL boils down to traction. If they are using stock Prius tires, the car is worthless and will not be beating anyone on or off the track.
Wasn't this the one that was found to be bogus?
Yeah I do know that@Slashfan
I do agree the suspension doesn't have to be crazy. But tires are very important.
Even you know enough about cars to realize how small in width Prius tires are. The Prius was designed with tires to handle about 75hp. Even a low hp LT1 is pushing 300hp which is 4x more than those tires are going to handle. The drag car you posted is running 10" wide racing slicks. A Prius has maybe 5"-6" of STOCK STREET tire width. I am honestly not even going to argue about this. There is simply no way stock Prius tires are going to handle an LT1 engine. Perfect example: Go put stock Prius tires on an LT1 Camaro and see how well it does.
Maybe we misunderstood the quote. It said stock prius wheels. Maybe they just mean the design. Maybe they are running MUCH wider tires.
The for sale ad is fake, the car is not.
Not really, it's made it less cool. Putting a LS1 in anything is so overdone now it's just boring. Swap something like a turbo 2.0L out of an old Celica or something and it would be cool.

So, you're not a fan of Tesla or these new hybrid sports cars? Because they're being green as well & how they're driven will depend on the owners.
It's overdone because of how much sense it makes.
As I said before, even if the LS swap didn't make sense from a performance standpoint. This is probably about putting a V8 in a car that represents the opposite.
No gear changes or engine noise? Absolutely not! You'll also have to pay a lot of money to buy one when you can get a better performing gas-powered car for less money. Gas-powered cars are also more tunable than electric cars.
It disapoints me that these blasphemic sports cars have been accepted in the automotive community.

That's pretty funny. I bet there was somebody named J. Money a few hundred years ago that scoffed at all the professional engineers who were experimenting with internal combustion engines.
"Look! They're trying out this fancy new technology and it isn't even providing immediate game changing performance without any time to develop the technology! Steam engines/horses are so much better than gas powered engines.
It disappoints me that internal combustion engines have been accepted!"
That's great. You know what disappoints me? Ignoramuses who are so high on their ivory tower that they aren't even aware of how far they've been left in the dust. It goes from disappointing to annoying when they think they speak for an entire community and then I get to deal with people treating me like a "Me want big ingin and noises" oaf because I like cars.
You are not an engineer. Hush now and let the grown ups work.
I agree on both but that doesn't mean the electric car won't get any better any time soon, and the fact that we were able to build cars driven by electric motors a hundred years ago doesn't mean battery technology has already had its chance.Electric cars are being built to satisfy the wants of the green movement, nothing more. Cars with gasoline engines are currently better in nearly every aspect than electric cars.
An electric car built to satisfy green-minded individuals isn't anti-enthusiast any more than your typical base model commuter car; it's just a product, made to suit the desires of consumers who may or may not give a crap about the stuff we like about cars. No, I don't speak for the automotive community; I'm only against the traitors who want to change it.
You do realise that oil (from which gasoline/petrol is derived) is not in infinite supply, right? If a company manages to build an electric car than can outrun a used Camry, but costs less, I MIGHT be able to accept and respect it.
But you know what? That's not going to happen in my lifetime. If electricity is to succeed gasoline, it would have done so already.
And you are?
We had the capability to build electric cars a hundred years ago; you can't say they are more advanced. When the internal combustion engine was developed, it was accepted much faster because it was clearly more efficient than steam power.

Battery technology is nearly here but even if we had the technology people still wouldn't buy electric cars. Why would someone buy a 25k+ electric car for daily commuting when he could buy a 5k Civic and do the same job much cheaper. Just because we can make electric cars doesn't mean regular non-tree hugging people will buy them. There has to be a practical reason. Same reason Cars were invented in 1880's but only became available to the working family in the late 1910's when the Model T came out.
People in the market for new 25K electric cars are not cross shopping with 10 year old Civics. This is such a bad argument, you could say it for virtually any new car ever released, why would someone spend 20K on a new Civic when you can get a 5K one that does the same job? Why would someone spend $40k on a new BMW when a 5K Civic does the same job? Just because we can make luxury cars doesn't mean regular non-corporate people will buy them.
As for a "practical reason", the entire point of electric cars is that you don't need to use gas to run them. Is that not a practical reason to buy one?
Not when they go 150 miles on a charge and takes 8+ hours to fully charge, no not practical at all.
