Now that we’ve figured out five things people might not know about you, let’s figure out what people should know about you in order to really get a grasp at who you are as a person. The concentration here is on personality, beliefs, etc. – the things that you’ve done to make you who you are. In other words, don’t make a list of banal things like race, eye color, if you’ve had braces, blah blah blah, I don’t care – list what makes you an individual.

Starting off:

1 First and foremost, I’m an Objectivist. You can’t really know who I am and why I think the way I do unless you know this – once you do know this though, then I’m as predictable as Porsche’s design studio. Why do I hate Social Security? Because I’m an Objectivist. Why am I a registered Libertarian? Because I’m an Objectivist. Why do I have an enormous amount of respect for James Randi and Penn Jillette? Because I’m an Objectivist. Why do I buy all of my music? Because I’m an Objectivist.

2 I’m not a temperamental person at all, or at least I don’t ever show it. There are times when I will complain about something – in fact, I complain quite a bit – but I very very very rarely get truly angry. In fact, the last time I ever angrily yelled at somebody was eight years ago (that’s how rare it is for me – I can vividly remember it).

Part of the reason for this is that my mom is very temperamental, which always upset me; my entire day could be ruined just because she decided to have a fit about something not involving me at all. Nothing’s worse than living with someone who might inexplicably explode at any second. I always thought this “collateral damage” effect was completely unfair, so I make it a point to never get angry at somebody unless they actually deserve it.

3 Having said that, even though I make it a point to always be in a cheerful mood, I have a hard time being gregarious with strangers or with people I only sorta-kinda know. I can put on a sincere-looking smile like you wouldn’t believe, but inwardly I’m never comfortable in those kinds of situations. Part of it is because I was an only child and raised in a non-neighborhood neighborhood (i.e., my friends were over ten miles away), so sociability was never high on my priority list. Again, I can put up a great front, but inside I’m thinking Just let me get through this without embarrassing myself…

4 And on that note, since I spent most of my hours to myself, I developed quite a fondness for Lego. That, coupled with my Objectivism, is probably why I love the maths and sciences so much. On a related note, when I was about 5 years old, I remember thinking “I want to be a scientist when I grow up.” Over the next dozen years, I cycled through wanting to be a car designer to wanting to be an entomologist to wanting to be a teacher to wanting to be an architect to wanting to be a UI designer, but now I’ve cycled back to wanting to be a scientist (specifically, a bioengineer). Guess my intuition at five years of age was pretty good. :)

5 I’m very, shall we say, precise? I stress over every single pixel in my avatars, I’m very picky about grammar, there’s a clear amount of order to my room, I always feel like I have to understand concepts in great depth, I worry if I put just a tad too much load on the clutch, etc.

So, what about you?

1. I'm very peaceful, most of the time anyway. I try to be optimistic about everything as much as possible. I try not complain because I don't like it when other people complain so I try to keep it to a minimum.

2. I'm very quiet. I hardly ever talk at all. I'm a very good listener I've found out because most people come to me when they need to talk about something thats on their mind. In my group of freinds I'm the guy that just sits back and listens with a smile on my face.

3. For the most part I would call myself generous, whether it be giving up some of my time to talk to someone, or sparing a couple bucks for someone to buy something.

4. I have a variety of personalties, I think I pretty much fit in with every crowd, from the "Rednecks", to the "Skaters" and just about everywhere in between.

Thats all I got for right now so....

Ladies: I'm single; I'd like to get married some day; I'd like to have children; I'm 6'4" and quite handsome; I don't give my phone number away easily.

...

Well...

1 I have a heavy temper. I get pissed off very easily. Whether it's some one in a room sniffling their nose, or if some one is talking too loud, or even if some one is walking and just does something to annoy others, it gets me in the worst mood, sort of like a mood to fight.

2 I'm obsessed with computer technology. I usually come home from school lately (Since I have no after school activities I'm interested in) and I play video games on the computer all day or I just chill online. Every thing else is so boring in my house, that this is the only place that actually keep me in the mood for any thing.

3 I have A.D.D., or A.D.H.D. or something along those lines. I can be doing something at one moment, and just stop to day dream and do something else really quick. I can't focus on one thing all the time. Even in school, if some one is talking and I try to stay quiet, I open my big mouth which gets me into trouble.

4 Number three has to do with this also. I'm an instigator. If there is a fight at school, I add more fuel to the fire. T

he past Saturday at my indoor soccer game, we played the school that got us mad the last time we played them. Then the kid who almost kicked our goalie in the face, was holding on to our team mates hand, pulling him away. These guys played hella dirty. And well, this kid was holding hands, pulling the dude away, and I said, "Stop holding hands little homo!" Then he replies, "Come say it to my face." I get substituted to go and play, I switched positions with my team mate and when I got up to the kid, I said, "Stop holding hands little fag} (sorry for my language GTP :( ) And the kid tries to hit me, I move and I pushed him away and he didn't do any thing. I'm a bully haha.

5 I am obsessed with how I look. In 8th grade, freshman year, I didn't care about how I looked. I'd wear these pants with this shirt. Then in my sophmore year, I started thinking about how I look. It gets me mad at times since I'm worried about how people will look at me, but I can't over come the feeling of how I would feel if some one just said, "Oh, that shirt is really tight", or, "Those jeans are something that this person would wear." Don't know why but I just can't over come that.

A lot more about me too.

1: Like your number 5, I am a perfectionist, but only on certain things. I'm actually very unorganized, and I usually have typos, but when I buy a box of 50 different flavors of jelly beans, I have to make sure they stay in their compartment. Even when I make a banana split, I get really irritated when some of one flavor is in the scoop of another flavor (a scoop of strawberry with chocolate on the edge) I'm wierd when it comes to what I'm picky about. If you asked my mom about it she'd tell you that, when playing GT, I take 15 minutes to choose the color for the car.

2: I am awkwardly science oriented, but in a freaky sort of way. My dad and I have strange conversations about negative gravity and how infinity and 0 are so similar, etc. What's funny is that I act like a comedian when talking about it. You can expect me to say something like, "Gravity, what's with that? Why is it so weak? It's like the energy is coming from another dimension! Could it be seeping in from plasma between all our visible universe? Let me tell you, this solar system get's stranger and stranger." THen I start linking it to some other physics thing, and something else... Then I start talking about people. People in general. Like how the world is corrupted and so many idiots are ruining the Earth because they never really cared in school, and geniouses go unnoticed while their inventions are wrongly used, and when an important discovery is made, everyone starts talking about it, and nobody uses it, because they expect someone else to do it for them. Oops, got a little sidetracked there...

3: I overthink things all the time. When a question pops into my mind, it's so hard to stop thinking about it until I find the answer. I can never settle just for what is true. I need to answer what's in my head or else I get really distracted and can't pay attention. It's actually a really difficult way to live.

4: Unlike many people, I actually like some foods that are known as being... well, icky at best. The other night I had brussel sprouts and ate all of them on my plate and asked for more. I eat spinach, oysters, sushi, and much more, yet there are many common foods that I hate. Mac and cheese is gross to me, I can't eat a cheeseburger (I can eat hamburgers though) Actually, most things with cheese, besides grilled cheese sandwiches, don't appeal to me at all, yet I can eat cheese plain. I'm wierd about food I eat too I guess...

5: Like LOON, I am pretty quiet. But, I have a very, shall we say, "not normal" reason. I don't like very many people because they all come across to me as idiots. Not all of them I guess, but most of them. I don't know how other schools are, but this one's got a lot of jerks who, put blatantly, have no care for school or education. I hope they like the smell of burnt hamburgers... actually I don't. I hope they hate it and get stuck with it because that's the path they chose.

6: The main reason I joined this forum was to find out more about GT4, have fun telling people what my favorite cars were, asking about oil changes, things every new member wants to do. However, if you take a peek at my profile, you'll see that I bite my tounge every once in a while. When I get into an arguement, and someone makes an utterly stupid post in their defense, I just try to laugh as other people notice how stupid the post was too. I don't think I have any locked threads, because I don't ask questions that I can find the answers to. Every question that I am thinking about, someone else had too. There's a place for everything, and since this forum is so organized compared to others, I don't know why so many newbies don't notice the places they should obviously be posting in.

When I was typing that one, there was a 5 next to it, and a 4 next to the previous one. I checked back and noticed two 4s, so I corrected it. THat just proves #1 better

Edit: THis is actually a really good way to get rid of my problems. More to come! (Did I just say I have a lot more problems?)

1 I am very math and science oriented. I like right or wrong answers. I have straight B's in English, while maintaining probably a 3.8 or nine in the rest of my subjects. I do very well in math and science classes without having to apply myself much at all.

2 I have pretty much no emotion, or at least, I rarely show it. Around here, if I post sad or mad smilies, it is usually an exaggerated distaste. There is an exception every now and then, though. I am generally stuck in a good mood and try to keep things fairly light-hearted. This and 1 combined lead to me having no taste in the arts whatsoever. Any design-type stuff I am interested in would be something very techical, like cars.

3 I am an introvert. Prior to my sophomore year, I almost never opened my mouth in front of groups. I would hang around in a group and not say anything unless addressed. Because of this, I am very socially undeveloped. I would consider myself very lacking in the ability to read people or produce a response without going through a big thought process. Unless I have a passion for the subject at hand, my part of a conversation is usually the occasional nod, "yep," "uh huh" or "really?!?".

4 I am quite indecisive. While I do get ideas and like to think a lot, I hate making major decisions. Whenever I have to make a big decision, I will ask friends for their opinions, take them seriously, and let them influence my decisions heavily. Part of this is also that I think friends know more about me than I do.

5 I am politically left-leaning. I am all for higher taxes to allow the government to do more things better. I could elaborate on this further, but I' m not sure where I would go off to.

Well, I'm not certain where to go, so we'll see what happens...

1) I'm from Michigan, so my belief system may be "off" just a bit when it comes to certain things. One thing in particular is the American automotive companies (check automotive news and cars in general) in which I will generally attempt to defend them in any way possible, and only tear them down when they do something so incredibly stupid that not even I can see the reasoning behind it... Certainly, I love my German cars too, but it is America that comes first, even though I drive a Volkswagen...

2) Generally speaking, I'm on the political right. I like to shoot the stuff with folks, as I am a Political Science student at Aquinas College, but I'm not one to openly accept all ideas. Do I respectfully disagree? Normally, yes... But when other people do not do the same, that is when I have a problem.

3) Speaking of that, I can't stand stupid people. To put it simply, I get that from my Grandmother. I don't care who you are, what you are doing, where you live, whatever... If you're an idiot, I'm likely to point it out, and you're likely to drive me crazy. Stupid people drive me up a wall, and although I may profess 'respect' in my political views, stupid people have no excuse for doing what they do... It makes me mad just thinking about them...

4) I generally have a pretty good sense of humor, although I may not always catch every joke thrown at me. I'm more of a political/social satireist, and I often carry with me rather strange references to TV, Muisc, and Movies from time long since past. The '80s is usually a good place for me to joke about, but I like to bounce around. A good feeling for my sense of humor would be Saul of the Mole Men, The Tim and Eric Show: Good Job!, or any of the other Adult Swim shows.

5) I don't like to be cool. I have no need for it. Generally speaking, I often chose not to follow the current trends whenever possible, or if I do even slightly, I have to put my own twist on it... For example, North Face jackets are really cool where I live, and given that I wanted to not look like a total tool, but didn't want to be one by buying a North Face jacket, I went out and bought a Spider jacket just to be different. The same thing happened when I went cell-phone shopping not too long ago, I went to go and find the Samsung that I wanted (aka, not cool)... But instead I got stuck with a RAZR. It has been the single exception to my "rule" in quite a long time, and I feel so bad for breaking it...

Not trying to ridicule you or anything, but by trying so hard not to follow trends, you're still letting them dictate what you do.

I'll try to come up with my 5 later, but I'm usually really bad at these types of things, so it may take some time. Interesting thread, Sage.

1. I'm a basically calm, peaceful individual. I will go out of my way to avoid a confrontation or a fight. However, if I know that I am "right" I will calmly defend my position. If you continue to argue, then, I will vigorously defend my position. If I still don't have your attention, I will likely dismiss you as an idiot an move on with my life. Though sometimes it takes me longer AEB, some of the "thread wars" I have been involved in for 1-3 posts longer than I should have.
Intelligence does not always overcome stupidity.

2. I do have a temper, though few get to see it. And I can hold a grudge for a long, long time. I have walked away from "stressful" people in order to save them a good ass-chewing, or a beating. If my eyes "go dead" and I walk away. Let me go. Like any other animal, I am not at my best or safest when cornered, with limited avenues of escape.

3. I am very passionate about my family, my chosen career, my music, and little else. I pretty much coast thru life, trying to roll with the punches, and only occasionally "punching" back. "The young supple tree bends with the wind, and is difficult to break, because of its suppleness. The old oak stands stiff, unbending in the wind. Hard to break, but when broken, it is broken completely." I try to be the young, supple tree.

4. I'm a "closet philosopher". I try to help people come to solutions. My "solutions" however, are based on adapting to the situation, and overcoming it. I believe that if a problem is not faced/adapted to it will only grow, and become a larger obstacle in the future.
I believe that doctors that throw chemicals at a problem, weithout trying to find the cause of the problem, are lazy idiots. I feel the same way about people that "throw money" at a problem, when elbow grease is what is needed.
Taking the time and trouble to find the underlying cause, shows determination, and willingness to solve a problem.

5. I'm sentimental/emotional/sensitive. The strangest things get to me.

6. bonus: All this crap of "I rather push a (insert car name here) than drive a (insert car name here) annoys the hell out of me. I don't care what kind of car it is as long as I'm not walking!!

  1. I am rude to my friends. If I tell you that I wish you’d go die, or that I want you to be put through a lot of pain, or that you’re a moron, don’t get offended – I’m usually saying it because I’m comfortable around you. If I am uncomfortable with you, I’ll usually be polite and respectful. Unless you really are a moron, in which case you’ll probably be able to tell that I don’t like you.
  2. I think things through, maybe too much. I know the consequences before I do something, and because of that I usually don’t do a lot of things that most people might be comfortable with. But, at the same time, a lot of my friends have gotten into trouble over the last couple of years, and it’s problems I’ve not had to deal with because I think ahead.
  3. Like Sage, I’m an only child, and somewhere around age 13 my ability to socialise took a dive bomb because I changed high schools. I’d just settled in during my first year of high school, but it was okay because everyone was in the same boat. Then when I changed school I was in no group, and everyone had formed their groups long ago. So my not-comfortable-around-you personality switched on, and I was very introverted. That took me a long time to overcome (maybe when I was 16 or 17 I was comfortable with a lot of people again). I still find it kind of difficult to initiate conversation with people I don’t know.
  4. I like routine. Or at least I like to have obligations that I must structure my days around. I like to be able to say “I have to be in class at 1pm, so I need to leave at 12:30, so I need to be finished at the gym by 11:30 so I can shower and have lunch, so that means that I have to be at the gym by 10am, so I have to be awake at 9am.” I just need one central thing to structure my day around, and everything else falls into place. Without that, though, I find my days waste away very quickly and I get nothing done.
  5. If you know me at all, then you know I’m into F1. But I’m not just into it, it’s my passion. It really dominates my mind, and I think about it every day. If I could get a job involved in F1 I’d be living my ultimate dream. Unfortunately I don’t think that will happen, so I’m stuck as being just another fan. :p

  1. I seem to analyze every little detail regarding people I see. For example, the person sitting infront of me an uni today was left-handed, wore jeans with a 32 inch waist, and had 3 piercings in his ear. I don't know his name, but it's not important, he also wanted to 'Vote for Pedro'. (Like half the people in my lecture actually...)
  2. I almost border on OCD in somethings, for example I'll only eat breakfast in one certain bowl with one certain spoon. If that bowl and spoon isn't available, because I'm not eating breakfast at home or someone else used it and didn't wash it, I just go without breakfast, no matter how hungry I am.
  3. My word is something I can't take back ever. 8 years ago we got a new Sofa, I hated it because I loved the old one and swore that I'd never ever sit on it, to this day, I never have. 6 years ago I had a fight with my mothers boyfriends and swore that I'd never speak to him again, to this day, I never have. 3 years ago, my friend gave me a bet that I couldn't not eat McDonalds for a month, I didn't. Then it continued on and on, and I've never eaten it since. It's not that I don't want it, but I swore I'd never eat it again, I know that she wouldn't find out, but I couldn't live with myself.
  4. I wiki everything. I'll hear a song on the radio, I'll wiki the band to find out about it. Hear something on the news, I'll wiki it. I probably use it 20 times a day just to read up on random articles.
  5. I have the worst handwriting ever. I don't bother writing notes, because for me to be able read them I write too slowly.

Hmm well that makes up 4 :)

1. I am recovering from my 4th heart attack (just over a week ago). Feeling ok, been doing all the right things, but just predisposed at this point. My cardiologist did tell me that my angiogram after my angioplasty looked very good, so maybe I'm over this.

2. I'm one of the older members of the GT Community. I'm a bit of a curmudgeon when it comes to some things, but overall, I'm pretty liberal minded (not necessarily politically) and fairly difficult to shock.

3. Like Sage, I am an Objectivist...see his links for details.

4. Like PLmatt91, I have ADD, which was being very successfully treated by meds, until my first heart attack in 2003. Now I just have to cope with my ADD issues (low impulse threshold and low tolerance-to-stupidity threshold, among others) until a medication that doesn't effect cardiac-at-risk patience.

5. My younger brother (Pariah from the old GTF & GTBN) is my best friend, and a Florida State Trooper. Most of the men in my family are/were in law enforcement. That being said, it annoys the crap out of me when people "hate all cops" because they got caught doing something stupid...you get no sympathy from me. Take responsibility for your actions and quit bitchin'.

1. I'm incredibly laid back, I don't really take much notice of the world around me, instead I stick sometimes to my own little world made of me, my girlfriend my family and friends. Maybe that's not a good think for work but I don't mind, if something needs doing, I'll get to it, eventually..

2. I was once Communist! Yep when I was 15 me and a friend just suddenly agreed to Communism during a History lesson, don't ask why, it still confuses me to this day. Present day, I don't take much notice of politics.

3. Like Blake, I have a passion for Formula 1, it was first fueled by my father when I was around 6 or 7 as he used to always watch Formula 1 on the telly, till this day I still remember sitting infront of the TV watching Micheal Schumacher back in his Benneton days. I went to my first Grand Prix in 2004 at Silverstone and have 2 lined up this year, at Silverstone and at Spa.

4. I like rock music, if you haven't already noticed, I usually get labeled an Emo on these forums  I don't mind as I do generally listen to that type of music, I enjoy it so why would I change?

5. At 17 years old, I've edged into 6 foot 5 inches of height! It's crazy but if I walk down a street packed full of people, I can always find my destination before my 5ft 8 girlfriend. But it also has it's negatives, the amount of times I've hit my head of something is starting to become stupidly big I reckon..

Best of luck with your recovery 👍

Hmmm, just coz it's on Wiki, doesn't necessarily make it true.. 💡

1 - I'm a bit heavy sometimes handed but I'm not violent. The thought of hitting someone hard and killing them or something terrifies me. I'd proably be crap in a fight now, the last time I was involved in a scrap was with my borther in 2002.

2 - I'm not that interested in politics, I generally could care less who's in power because no one does a good job. We'll continue to pay stupidly high taxes and be ripped off for living over here no matter who's in charge.

3 - I'm easy going, generally anyway. I'm happy to give other people just as muc chance to do what they want as I have to do what I want. I'm generally not rude to anyone, except certain friends who I can be absolutely foul with in the name of fun.

4 - I'm attracted to women who are shorter than me. Women that are taller, no matter how good looking just don't do it for me as much shorter women. There's probably some psycological mumbo about why that is but who cares. Charlotte shorter than me.
Edit: Just to clariy, that's not that I'm attracted to dwarfs, just women that are shorter than me, so they can be 5'7 or 5'8, but at 5'9 they start to appeal less.

5 - The only things I can think of for number 5 are things I don't want to post on the internet, so you could read that I like to keep certain things private into that.

1) I am placid in nature but very defensive of my friends and french cars (but don't make me choose)
2) I am a firm advocate of "____ in haste, repent at leisure". I like to take my time with things. No rushing for me.
3) I'm great to live with! I'm clean and tidy, and mess really annoys me.
4) People at my school can't work out if I'm gay or straight. Those who guess bisexual (or multisexual :D ) are the correct ones.
5) I'm a great believer in the healing power of sarcasm. I use it often, though not subtly enough for great humour.

1) I consider myself to be a semi-perfectionist. If a job's worth doing it's worth doing well. At least until i lose interest and i either fail to finish the job or botch it to get it done and out of the way. I'm far too laid back to be a control freak.

2) Politically i guess i sway slightly left of centre. I have a traditionally right-wing family background but my wife (and her family) are much more left-wing. I suppose i find her political arguments to be the more compelling.

3) I'm a huge fan of motorsport and cars in general. This probably stems from my Grandad who used to be a Ford dealer in the 50's, 60's and 70's and used to compete in circuit racing, rallying and hillclimbing. This has obviously had a knock-on effect with both my dad and my uncle competing in circuit racing from an early age followed by me doing the same. Having grown up always having racing cars in the garage at home i was always destined to get behind the wheel at some point. Ever since getting my driving licence i suppose my on-road driving style has evolved from practicing 'racing techniques' in anticapation of the real thing. I don't mean driving particulaly fast - probably just smoothly and in a mechanically sypathetic way. I actually just love driving for drivings sake and get great enjoyment from just mastering the control of a car. For this reason i've never owned or had a massive urge to own a fast road car. You can get just as much pleasure driving a Fiat Panda really well as you can an M3 CSL.

4) Although i've spent the past 18 years of my life as either a Graphic Designer or graphic design student, i'm now in the process of totally changing my career direction. I'm at the age now (35) where it would become hard for me to make such a career jump if i left it much longer. Even though it means spending a big chunk of my free time studying what is really quite a dull subject (compared to my regular creative job) it is worth it in the long run for me and my family's future. And is therefore a bitter pill worth taking.

5) Related in a way to the point above, i'm finding it quite hard coming to terms with the fact that i'm now beginning to slip into the 'middle-aged' category of life. I still feel (and often act) like i'm still in my early 20's but it's now becoming obvious that i'm no longer the spring chicken i once was. As the old saying goes 'You're only as old as the women you feel' - unfortunately for me she's only a couple of months younger than i am. ;)

It's got to be too soon for a mid-life crisis?

First off, NoQuarter, my sincere best wishes for a strong recovery. I know this has been plaguing you for a bit. Good luck!

Now, on to 5 Things You Should Know About Duke:

1: Like Sage and NQ, first and foremost I am an Objectivist (and in great company here at GTP). As Sage puts it so well, it colors everything I do and believe. I live firmly in the real, physical world and have no room for mystical/spiritual/non-rational pursuits or influences. For those in the know, I am a David Kelley/IOS-camp Objectivist rather than a Leonard Peikoff/ARI-camp Objectivist. It's a subtle but substantial difference, largely driven by #2 and #3 below.

2: Politically, I'm a Libertarian and a Friedman capitalist. Ayn Rand, founder of Objectivism, had no patience for Libertarians, and therefore her disciple Peikoff does not either; they believed that Libertarianism permits too much freedom (despite that Objectivism is founded upon liberty). I firmly believe that ALL people are born with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but beyond that only have a right to what they earn for themselves. Choose who you wish to as a mate; choose to eat/drink/smoke what you wish; choose to work hard or not; just don't expect anyone else to protect you from the consequences of those choices. I believe that the key to a strong healthy society is to set a minimum of carefully-thought-out rules rather than rely on a maximum of poorly-considered laws. Make the rules simple and enforce them strongly, rather than make them complicated and enforce them badly.

3: I'm lazy! Although I only expect to receive what I earn, I'm willing to live with moderate return for moderate effort. Not to say poor-quality effort, because I want to be good at what I choose to do, but I am not driven by ambition or competitiveness. I feel no need to be the biggest or best or most famous or richest. I prefer to enjoy life. My goals are entirely internal - I seek my own levels of comfort/effort and interest/satisfaction. My house is usually a mess, but when I clean it, I clean it thoroughly. My life is modest, but I sleep at nights and work a 40-hour week.

4: I'm a generalist rather than a specialist. I'm definitely a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I'm an architect because it combines the technical with the artistic; I don't specialize in certain building types because I prefer to work on lots of different projects. I'd much rather have a wide, working knowledge of many many different subjects than have focused, encyclopedic knowledge of a very few. I can change a head gasket, paint an abstract, repair the drainpipe, discuss philosophy, land a plane in an emergency, read a novel or an astronomy text, shoot accurately, lead a Girl Scout troop, and enjoy Nine Inch Nails or Rachmanninof. Just don't ask me to perform surgery or teach a high school physics class.

5: I'm immune to fashion, trends, and popular culture. It's irrelevant to me. This is not to say that I am anti-pop and seek to rebel and show my disdain for the common: that simply leads to a different flavor of conformity. Just look at the emokids who hang out at Hot Topic to confirm what I'm saying. Things can be "popular and good", "popular but bad", "unpopular but good", or "unpopular and bad". Good or bad is all that matters. Everything I choose depends on whether I like it and am willing to pay for it; how it appears to others matters nothing (unless of course it might get me in trouble).

I can *snip* land a plane in an emergency,

Just in emergency conditions?
Surely if you could do that, you could do it under normal conditions, since you have the skill.

Which begs the question, ever want to become a pilot?

1. I have an extremely short fuse, I get angry with the wrong people very easily.

2. I can be a nasty person or I can be a jolly, playful nice person, all depending on the last 5 minutes, I cant keep one emotion for too long.

3. I am funny, but not the sort of funny you can type uo on the interent, I'm good at impressions and stuff like that.

4. I honestly have no idea of what people actually think of me on this forum, and it does make me wonder sometimes

5. I'm an avid liverpool FC fan, and I play soccer and cycle alot, I also play the guitar.

Might aswell do a 6th,

6. I'm VERY intersted in cars, I can tell what a car is in the dark with just it's rear lights on from at least 25 feet away. geek or what?

peace out.

Well, yes. In fact, I took flying lessons, but they got to be too expensive to keep up.

I say "in an emergency", because I don't have the deep knowledge of procedure and attention to detail required of a professional pilot... because I'm a generalist, not a specialist.

I could piece together a pretty decent description of myself with bits of philly cheese's and Sage's 5, but since I want to keep plagiarist off my list, I'll write it myself.

1 I'm a mathy-sciency person. I prefer situations where there is only one correct answer as opposed to situations that can be argued from multiple vantages depending on a person's perspective.

2 I allow myself to be as lazy as my current situation allows me to be - that is, I rarely work ahead or do more than expected. I will go to great lengths to find or create a reason not to do something. ...more often than not, what I come up with is just as tedious as the task it replaces, except the new one is less productive. example: I retagged and downloaded album art for my entire collection of MP3's a few weeks ago when I could have been studying or working on any of the 4 projects I have due at the end of this month.

3 I'm mild tempered, shy in person, and don't show many emotions. This is particularly true if I'm with a group of people. Some of my friends have called me socially awkward, which I think is a decent description. Despite this, I enjoy company and have a pretty large network of people that keep in touch with me on a regular/semi-regular basis.

4 I love board games, whether they be German strategy games, or traditional family games. I prefer a night of board games to a night at a club or bar. (game nights with friends are not without alcohol)

5 I'm very thinly read (as opposed to widely read), and don't make a point of keeping up with current events or pop culture. This might attribute to some of the social awkwardness my friends identified - in conversation there are a lot of topics that come up that I haven't heard of, or if I have heard of them I haven't formed an opinion one way or the other.

Not trying to ridicule you or anything, but by trying so hard not to follow trends, you're still letting them dictate what you do.
+ Rep for this short post.

1 I clean up a lot, I hate it when my place is a mess. It's not like I want it to be organised [as in: catalogued], it's more that I want it to be tidy and smell of cleaning products. 2 Something which doesn't coincide with my persona per se. I consider myself to be very laid back. I don't worry easily and don't get very emotional either way of the scale. 3 I like to think I'm a rational thinker and am in touch with people's thoughts and feelings. I'm very confident in my people knowledge. 4 I have a fairly short attention span and I can get bored fast. 5 I've never done hard drugs but I do play the piano. Poorly.

You cheated! #5 is actually two separate items, thrown together willy-nilly.

...but posting nine things as one is apparently just fine if done less willy-nilly-ly :p

I can change a head gasket, paint an abstract, repair the drainpipe, discuss philosophy, land a plane in an emergency, read a novel or an astronomy text, shoot accurately, lead a Girl Scout troop, and enjoy Nine Inch Nails or Rachmanninof.

I could tell you about things that I'm proud of, but let's face it...the world doesn't need to know I like cars, Grand Prix racing, photography, or tinkering with computers. There's other things that the public shouldn't know, but here's 5 things that might come in handy, should you have to deal with me and we're stuck in an elevator for 3 minutes:

1. I have no reserve for people who rebut with circular logic, or those who constantly have excuses ("Who reads the manual, anyhow?" -or- "My other ___ didn't ___.") for thier line of reasoning to get something for nothing, or generally waste my time. Thus, my mouth potentially gets me in trouble sometimes. I have a lot of tact and patience, and there's plenty of times I know when to keep my mouth shut. But if my personal tact-tank has been emptied, and I'm already overdrawn, you're going to hear it from me if you're a rude and/or obnoxious person.

2. Your time isn't any more or less valuable than mine. I don't care if you're a homeless bum, a doctor, lawyer, teacher, or the President of the United States; everyone's time is important, but not any more important than anyone else's. Telling me that your time is much more important than mine is a surefire way to make sure I'll waste every bit of yours, so we can be equals.

3. I don't put up with bigotry, racism, or undeserved inequality. Just because you're a White Man doesn't mean you can tell me racist slurs or jokes. Likewise, I don't believe anyone needs additional merit merely for looking different than someone else. These are the two polar opposites that screw everyone else over for clogging the arteries of our lives up with unnecessary cholesterol.

4. I forgot. You should know I'm forgetful. Don't hesitate to tell me I forgot. This is probably why I wasn't very good in school; although I enjoy and relish learning (and teaching), but studying tends to be a waste of time, no matter how long or how properly I'm supposed to study. It's a good thing I'm done with school, I suppose, because my mind wanders too much when I'm studying. I'm always reading up on the next chapter, instead of focusing on the immediate topic, which sounds good in theory, but lousy in practice, unless you've truly mastered the previous part.

5. I'm obsessive at times; I'm a bit of a perfectionist, but that "feeling" comes and goes at times. Sometimes, I get picky about everything, including unimportant things; other times, I'm content to let slight and meaningless imperfections be the hallmark of creativity and personality.

1. I have a low tolerance for people who try and slip by with the bare minimum. I believe everything worth doing is worth doing all the way, and I think people who don't give everything 100% shouldn't try the activity at all.

2. I hate complaining. Complaining about something is a quick way to set me off.

3. I hate bad drivers who think they are great drivers. My freind is a prime example of this. He speeds irrationally and erratically. A little story. going up a huge windy hill, he went 60. This hilll has a huge blind spot at the end due to a tree, and we swerved into the other lane. There was a huge SUV sitting right there staring at us. The situation was bad enough to earn a pwning, but he went on to make it worse by playing it off that he was trying to scare everyone else in the car. I wanted to slash his tires.

4. I'm a huge fan of any type of punk music. It's great. It gets me pumped and makes everything better.

5. I hate it when people let their possessions change their personalities. If you have a badass car/truck/van/bike/vespa scooter.... It doesn't make YOU a badass. I think more people should realize that.

Lol! you had to add that thing at the end...just incase....cause thats what I was thinking 'So Dave likes the dwarfs eh?'
