Why the OP sounds like hes on choke or something?

Can't you see that his Speedometer & Tachometer freeze? That lag is so bad that the data isn't making it to your box (a very generalized explanation) to refresh properly on your screen. Then he pops back onto the track and his RPMs and speed shoot up instantaneously in your video. If you could get your hands on HIS replay file you'd see that he never actually drove off the track. But since YOUR playstation didn't receive his data properly/in time the car goes transparent and/or continues driving straight into the sand without the data showing that he actually DID drive cleanly around the turn.

I understand that it does look strange...but it's a very simple explanation. You haven't been cheated here.

Plus unless i'm wrong the games that do allow flashbacks/rewind do not allow them in online races.
The games that "allow" flashback (GRID/DiRT) simply reset the car in online races back onto the track.

Yes it's lag.

The data transmitted between the console contains information about the position and velocity of the other cars, and your game will extrapolate ("predict the future") on that data until it recieves the next batch of information.

I could never explain it better.
