I've never really understood music in games. I always turn it off. It's a distraction and most of the time it's crap. And those who drive with music on.....I have no words!

Couldn't play Mario Kart without the music.

Not sure if you can turn MK music off anyway lol.

Well, it's called a driving simulator right? You know, cruising along the boulevard with the top down and the speakers up? ;) (for the overly sensitive: it's a joke)

I don't drive with music on BTW, but I like it during the menus.

Music = Off in just about every game.

It took me no time to turn it off in GT5. That was just bad. FM3 I listened to it for about a day. Shift 2 menu music is great...but its the same song over and over, remixed, so it lasted about a week.

I couldnt care less for music :)

I find this interesting, as you're also talking about maturity. In that regard, it seems a bit hypocritical to say something along the lines of "this is may opinion, and no matter what you're showing to me, I won't change it".

That, however, is just my opinion.

It has nothing to do with hypocrisy what so ever. I wont change it based on photo mode pictures for the reasons I stated earlier. After owning the game for just on two years no amount of photo mode pictures will change that. I know what the engine is capable of as I have already stated that too, you only have to look at threads like chromatics to see the beauty within the engine to know that more realism is possible. That is not what I was disputing so posting photo mode pictures is basically a waste of the posters time as it has no bearing on my judgement in this discussion.

When it comes to music, I don't mind some of the GT5 in-race BGM, but the piano jazz just comes accross as terribly pretentious to me..

I remember some youtube video of someone in GT5 going to demo something, he starts by zooming in on a glass of (presumably) whisky, which he takes a swig before grabbing the wheel, all with the piano jazz music playing, I can't tell you how much that makes me cringe..

I usually shut off all music during racing but it's a toss up on the menus. GT5's jazzy music isn't bad, normally not my cup of tea but I did switch it to one of my albums I had on the HD. Likewise, I tend to do similar in Forza but I noticed in FM3 I let the default music in the menus but shut it off during racing.

We're not trying to make you think it's perfect, were just showing you that "cartoony" is a massive exaggeration.

I mean,

^Skip to about 30 second in for the actual video.
Compared to a Cartoon:

We know it's not perfect, because if it were there wouldn't have been a reason to make a whole new, completely unique lighting engine for FM4. But "cartoon" is a massive exaggeration.

Forza's graphics are more consistent but nothing on Forza can match day/night transitions on the Nordschleife with a premium car on GT5. Still by far the best looking racing game when they get everything right with the weather, day/night and premium cars.

I'll pass on those transitions, the frame rate alone with a full grid kills it for me. It's cool, but it's still a bit gimmicky.

Well, if i want to look at the weather i can go out in real life, but i cant drive supercars in real life...

Ryan's right, though... When GT5 gets all the good stuff together, it's looking brilliant.

If only it could do that at all times... :indiff:

The same could be said about the whole game actually. There is some very cool stuff in GT5, it's just that most of it is very gimmicky. Well, that's how I feel about the game anyway, all bells and whistles.

Same here man, gt5 is a really good game, but it could be even better with slightly more features that the community really want. But well se whan fm4 comes out, will it be like fm3, that is missing manny features that was in fm2, or will it be something new.

If you compare (since this is a comparison thread) the bgm from GT5 & FM3 I know what i'd rather listen to.

GT5 piano music has always been a turn off, infact embarrassing, you have no idea how many times someone has shouted through to me while im playing, WTF are you listening to.

The statistic menu in FM3 tells you how long you have been in the menu's - mines was at 40hrs or similar ! I was shocked.

Now that's just being silly, if you don't like jazz or classic music its ok and if you don't want to listen to it you can always listen to your own music. GT5 lets you do that.

Well, GT5 has supercars as well. Not to the extent of Forza, granted but I personally think a racing/driving game which has weather and day/night provides a more immersive experience. After all, it's never sunny and dry 100% of the time in reality. Games which come to mind include GT5, TDU2, Shift 2, PGR 3 & 4, etc.
I still love Forza without them but I think it would add even more to the game if it were included although I understand T10's reasons for not adding it.

I read it as barryl's family and friends reacting to the loud piano intro to the game played by Ling Ling. You can't really change that, simply try and hit the X button to go to the next screen.

I like jazz and a couple or three of the tunes on the soundtrack are pretty good (Norihito Sumitomo's "The Road To Success"). The menu music (PNAU's "Baby" etc) gets old a lot quicker than does the eauivalent menu music on Forza 3 though. :)

Sorry but in what way is it being silly? Its my opinion - the music is embarrassing, I have never had any other game receive critisism or shock from the BGM playing other than Gran Turismo.

I dont want to spend time putting music on my PS3 that I never play, I spend my gaming time on my Xbox my PS3 is a bluray player and i was really looking forward to GT5 which was good for a bit, I dont want to spend time changing the music in GT5 - I want to play the game for what I bought it for.

I dont want to be hassled with trying to find out what the track names are for the piano music or whatever garbage it is just to turn it off.

I buy the games to actually play them I shouldnt have to think about the BGM, I havent ever changed any games BGM only turned it off during play to hear the sound effects.

When I sit down to play on a console I want to play a game - not adjust things and take my time away from actual playing.

I'd rather have constistent all day long than play something that forces the ugliness upon you by having to race standard cars.

If your looking at it like that - GT5 is like owning an amazing car that only works properly 20% of the time. Forza is like owning an almost as amazing car thats good all rounder that works to near 100% of the time.

It's your lack of musical taste that's embarrassing.

So much hate for GT5 soundtrack :scared:

It's actually one of the few things I consistently like in all GT, including GT5.

Oh i'm sorry you felt the need to personally attack me for my opinion.

How do you know what my taste in music is? Thats funny - I dont think I have ever had this conversation with you before.

I don't need to know your taste in music, but to say, that music in GT5 is embarrassing is totally wrong. You can like it or not, and I could care less, and even agree with you. I don't like it also, cause it's not my bag of chips but it done very good.

Embarrassing would be if they used your ability to play music (unless you know what you are doing) or my rap singing (i don't know to rap). I hope you get the picture.

Didn't mean to offend you in any way. 👍

You didn't offend me at all, reasons why I find it embarrassing would be because its a very unpopular genre (I am not saying that no one likes it by that statement) and definitely not one associated with fast cars/racing or gaming.

Any members of family or friends know what kind of music I listen to but to then hear the piano music from GT blasting from my TV is a funny prospect.

Musical tastes doesn't define who I am or tell any kind of story about me but the thing with music is it does put people in certain brackets by stereotyping. This is what I like to avoid thus I feel its embarrassing for other people to hear me listening to it.

If you look at the most popular musical genre's it makes me question why PD would choose it as a centrepoint for such a massive game.

On many points, GT5 soundtrack is far from being "good". But I think it fits the mood of the game very well (and I don't mean it in a pejorative way). Hence, it's a very nice soundtrack.

Well, I actually like the BGM music, but you don't know how many times I've had people think I was watching a Porno when this music came on. Still, I think GT3 had the best soundtrack.
