Position the camera lower and you can even get the free "Guess the Car!" feature in GT5, with automatic pixelation :D

Youve musta not played since the updates.

Regardless still looks better.

Oh no you di' int' ;)

Oh, they've solved that issue completely? First time I've heard that, I gotta admit that. What about the shadows? All fixed, too?

Nope, still an issue, including shadows.

^Everyone has their own opinion.

lol look at the dynamics, it's pretty obvious.

Everyone has an opinion, but not everyone is intelligent. Im not insinuating anything, but that whole just cause it's an opinion that a statement loses validity is tiresome.

Come on you can't deny they don't look like little cute puffs in that zonda gif. :P

Well, yea... Can't help myself :D

Nope, still an issue, including shadows.
Ah, well, at least the free feature's still there. That's something, right?

Did I say completely?
No, you didn't, but if its pixelated still, my points stands, so what's the big deal?

Regardless it still looks better.
MOAR SMOKES YO!

Nah, just kidding, I just am not a drifter, so the amount of smoke isn't anywhere near as important to me as to guys who like to drift, different priorities and such.

Since I prefer racing, seeing the car getting dirty from rubber and brake dust is usually more noticible to me than the amount of smoke. For example, of course.

Bogie and Luminis make my days at work so much more entertaining.

Keep it up :P
Bogie, I guess we should start charging for the entertainment we're providing, eh?

And if they've fixed some of it, then my point still stands. easy.

It was never about this "moar smoke". I was just pointing out the reality that it's recreated better in GT5.

And its not just awesome to see in drifting; while your racing and you see some one over shoot a turn, or brake hard... and you see them save it... it's pretty epic or you can see the exact placement of smoke where someone or yourself is pushing their car on turns is awesome aswell, and all this only adds to the immersion.

Let us know when you do ;)
Just did. :)

I am hoping for a comparison of the length of time that tire tracks or objects remain on the track during the course of an endurance race.

First music now smoke......I guess is an improvement?

Not even a legit comparison.
No one respond.
EDIT:why bogie why.

Anyways get ready for everything in this game to get ridiculed(not a bad thing either). As it's up against GT5 which has been dissected, so it's only part of the process.

... and only for the immersion to get killed no more than a split second after all that smoke is generated to create that nirvana because you look into the smoke to see the LEGO Block outline of the car generating it.

Like I've said , they've calmed that down with updates, someones not paying attention.

Regardless it still looks better than those cute puffs coming from that zonda that look like they generated a half second late.

So with your argument it's either Semi-immersion or no immersion.

And if they've fixed some of it, then my point still stands. easy.
Given that you specifically note that I "must have not played the game since the updates" it implied to me that my point was moot with GT5 after those updates have been made. Seems likee it wasn't fixed, so, updates or no, pixelation is there. Dunno if pure improvement was your point when you quoted what I said, but if so, it seemed pretty nonsensical to point that out if it didn't invalidate my point. Thus, I assumed that that was what you had in mind and reacted accordingly.

If it was the usual "yeah it got better, PD's trying hard" remark, then I apologize for reading too much into it.

The kind of immersion that youu get from seein someone spin out and creating a smoke screen the size of the Great Wall of China? Stuff like I've rarely seen in real races? That immersion?

This is what it looks in real life:

This is what it looks like in GT5:

That's why I'm saying it's nice for the drifters, but it's been a while since I've seen that kind of smoke screen in a real race.

And while I'm on the topic of immersion, you know what kills my immersion when I'm trying to be immersed in a car with a roaring 16.4 litre, quad turbo engine?

Bees!

^

1st you're comparing two different types of vehicles.
2nd without awareness of tire compound.

3rd I was never discussing sounds, but I agree that Bugatti is horrendous.

@ Luminis.

Allot depends on the tires and track surface.

Here is a nascar spin out and there is allot of smoke.

^ That's why I said "I haven't seen that kind of smoke screen in a real race for quite some time".

WTCC, Le Mans, F1 and such... I just never see these kinds of smoke screens, but in GT5, they seem pretty common, no?

@MoGoSpeed:
You were talking about immersion as well, weren't you?

Yes but then we can go into a whole plethora of discussion :p

I just noticed the smoke. Don't get me wrong either, I'd love this game to be great, as competition brings out the best. So in all it will be better for the consumers.

Like I've said before, GT5 went under the microscope, now that Forza is part of the great simulation racing game discussion it will to.

(simulation word used loosely)

Someone sure isn't. I suggest you try harder to pay attention. It seems quite clear we're all saying if it's still there, even if it's so-called "calmed down" then it's going to be an immersion killer. It's sorta like have big grease stain on your white shirt that we all can see only for you to go to the bathroom and do a good job cleaning it but not a pro job or a real washing machine job. It may not be as obvious as before but those of us who knew it was there are still going to see that faint stain and it WILL be obvious as hell to us.

Regardless it still looks better than those cute puffs coming from that zonda that look like they generated a half second late.

I love those cute puffs, they know not to get in the way of the immersion but be just enough to give the effect they need to. Those damn adorable puffs, so cute yet so smart.

That's why I'm hoping to see Digital Foundry do a comparison between GT5 with the most recent patches and FM4.

By the way, a lot of that critical attention towards GT5 came from a lot of that things that aren't exactly the case for FM4 - the long wait and, as far as I am concerned, the way a lot of people looked down on every other racing game while GT5 was still vaporware. As if it couldn't possibly have any flaws and such...
