Yip the DLC launching almost a year after release - WOW

Not to mention the deliberate date of the DLC release, my my how the tables have turned, looks like the underdog is no more and PD are threatened by Forza's market position.

I wonder how trolls like you are still here.

Maybe, maybe not.

Anyone following the Forza franchise knew from October 2009 that FM4's release date would be around October 2011.

Just sayin' :sly:

Well KAZ announced that there will be major updates by September and October before the Forza 4 dates were anounced, or am i wrong?

Looking at the news tab it looks like he announced that on August 27th. Not sure when the FM release date was announced.

Edit:Found this FM4 fact sheet dated June 2011. So looks like the GT updates/DLC were first announced well after the FM4 release date.

How come I get a feeling this Spec 2.0 will be nothing but a rushed "let's get it out around/before FM4" Spec 1.7? They need to be careful here because if thats what it indeed turns out to be then there will be some massive ill will going down.

Hopefully Spec II will bring up lots of nice features/improvements. But right now it really seems like some kind of last minute attempt to counter FM4's launch.
Either that, or it really is pure coincidence. If it's just now that they've realized they've got to steal some thunder, though, I wouldn't be suprised to see something strange coming out of this. If PD had this in the pipeline for quite some time and am ready just now, cool. That'd really make it seem like something beautiful is going to happen to all the GT5 players. I can't shake the nagging feeling that that's not quite the case... You know, FM4 shaping up to bbe good, even IGN doing articles about the matter, and all of a sudden, bam, GT5 DLC, if you catch my drift.

I just don't expect something that doesn't come with a downside. That's all, really. Would be neat if they gave me a reason to pick GT5 up again, though. I've sold it for ~40 bucks and it's 25 now, so I would've even made money in the process

At any rate, I think this could turn out awesome, or it could go the complete opposite direction. I'll watch it with a raised eyebrow as things unfold. And people start to imagining thinks as to what the Spec II update will contain, no doubt - giving GT5, once again, the vaporware status of unproven invincibility it had prior to release.

Edit :
Yup. Even if it's not quite up to par on some aspects, I'm very happy with what we're seeing of FM4 thus far. It looks way more realistic than FM3. Love it <3
Yeah... I always said that it would've been better to go with a slightly lower level of detail on the premiums, but give us more of 'em.

So, FM4 being close but not exactly as good as GT5 is basically what I would#ve wanted GT5 to be - if that makes sense.

Well KAZ announced that there will be major updates by September and October before the Forza 4 dates were anounced, or am i wrong?
Don't mind me saying this, but Kazunori and release dates, that is a combination I, for one, am very, very careful with.

As can be seen, I'm also considering this to be a possibility. Not a definite fact, far from it, it just coincides so nicely that that suspicion is basically forced on you, I think.

lol, like they'd give a damn.

Wow, I wouldn't have said it better than that

I'm not sure if that make sense, but I do understand you. Oh I do 👍

Well just updated GT to patch 1.13. Wow that's a lot of fixing.

Had to update my PS3 first 3.72 I think.

GT starts up and says my date and time is wrong. What's that all about.

On topic.

Forza updates are quicker.

Oh hope no one over their creates a Spec 2 countdown thread.
Cheeky buggers.

Very nice ;)

It's kinda hard to find the right words for it other than "I think that's the better approach of the two", which still isn't quite perfectly expressing my thoughts on the matter... Then again, I can't be bothered to type out an explanation of the length I'd need to get it all sorted out perfectly

I tend to think that GT5 still have some kind of edge in the photomode department. I dunno, kinda the overall feel of the pictures still feels more realistic in GT5. But Forza is no longer lagging behind. Not. At. All.

Some FM4 photomode shots truly look amazing.

It's because of the horribad driver model. Granted this one doesn't look too bad but it's because you can hardly see it.

I know what you mean

FM4 is kinda like what GT5 should have been, except it would actually be strange to have such similar products. And of course Forza now have its own "spirit", and I think it's good that it's not the same as GT's "spirit".

Well, hard to explain with words as you said. GT5 isn't flawed because of it's "spirit", it's flawed because PD failed at managing its development efficiently. Hopefully they may learn from their mistake and deliver an astounding GT6.

I highly doubt Spec II would be able to fix most GT5 problems though. It may bring some nice updates, but I doubt it could fix the major gripes I have with the game (namely: messy frame rate, insane load times, bad and unresponsive UI, screwed-up career progression).

I must say I'm very interested in what this spec2.0 will bring. It certainly sounds like something big. Even bigger than the update that brought us seasonals and the online dealership which I thought was a pretty big update.

Not only that, GT5P when it was updated to a higher spec was awsome new tracks and cars. I'm very excited for this! @ spagetti you just now updating your PS3?

Just on the pro-GT5 side of things - I wouldn't look at this Spec 2.0 announcement as specifically something to coincide with Forza's launch, but instead, to be out before GT5 goes to Greatest Hits. That makes plenty of sense to me.

Of course, looking at the front-page article, it seems people are already building their expectations to silly amounts (all Standards converted?! Really?!), so I still expect sentiments of disappointment once it's out, even if it does give us a lot of cool content.

I imagine those track logos that were found on the site months ago will have something to do with it. If we get all the old GT4 tracks, or even most of them, I will be playing both games, because I miss a lot of the old fun tracks.

Yes mate. I never play it.

Man I'm dreading turning the PS3 on and getting an hour worth of updates. I'm not even going to bother till I read what you guys say about it. I know I'd probably break my disc in half to go through all that just for Spec 1.7.

Honestly, if you don't play your PS3 much then turn it on, do the system update and walk away. Set it to auto shutoff so you won't even have to come back and power it down. Even if there's 1 more update between the time you do this and later you'll only need to download the latest patch.

You would expect this spec 2 to be good, seen as they have had half a Forza game development cycle just to update (or as I would call it, 'finish') the game

I will be buying GT5 again if it finally lives up to what it should have been in the first place.

Good tip. In otherwords, hire an installer ;) lol

I just took a quick look at the GT5 forums (haven't done that in a long time), and people's imagination is already running rampant about upgraded standard cars, new tracks and the like.

I guess it's going to be far more basic and won't add that much cars and/or tracks, as PD also announced DLC.

If they can implement features like leaderboards, which are long overdue now, that'd be pretty sweet. But, unless they manage to do some fairly substantial changes to the game (single player career, for example, or weather and night/day on more tracks, fixed visual problems for good or something along those lines), I'm not going to hail GT5 Spec 2 as the second coming of Jesus that some people are already making out of it.

I will be buying GT5 again if it finally lives up to what it should have been in the first place.
Same here. If they do manage to cram some really big things into the update, it could mix things up a bit.

If I have the spare time to play a second game besides FM4, that is. As of right now, that'd still take precedence.

He's actually got a point....

Indeed 👍

I am not turning on my PS3 until Spec 2 comes out. I dread getting all the PS3 updates, and all the GT5 updates, going through all those installs, downloads and restarts. It's like I would need to set aside an afternoon :(

I think people are using the wrong word, "update" with GT5 spec 2.0

more like an expansion, considering the GT5p spec 2.0 brought 34 new cars,1 track and alot of other options.

and then later on spec 4.0 brought 3 more cars, evora, california,gt citroen.

in all it seems rather promising.

Same thing I was saying! Can't wait. 👍

I think people are keeping their expectations in check over here in this section. You can't go off past history if that was the case GT5 would be good.

Still good to hear that PD is considering giving GT5 basic options that all other games have today. Still can't come close to the excitement I feel for FM4. The car list, track list, online community, so fun, and almost no laggy races.
