I winned it at 2second try, putted the gear box to 200km/h and admission system to got 225cv (dont know how was the max restrict now).

Well understeer is an understandable complaint, even given the drivetrain layout of the car. The car has far too much power/Torque for its tyres, and of course being FF compounds this issue much further. That said, however you drive this car, understeer is still going to be prevalent. You can drive around it to an extent, but it will always be there, limiting the car. It's a tough challenge (at least without Skid recovery force on) and I appreciate blaming the car for understeer will get people nowhere unless they take steps to prevent it, i.e driving, tuning. That said, its entirely possible that people will take these steps without alluding to it, and was a result your comments may have be redundant. Of course, I may be wrong, many people may try to drive their FF like their MR, so maybe you have opened a few eyes. 👍

The first time I truly noticed it was when I was racing a friend of mine online on Forza 3 - we were both using stock MINE'S R34 GTRs which obviously have loads of power but not much in the way of downforce and he was driving it exactly like he would a MR car...this startled me as my friend (and I) have been at the top of Forza leaderboards since the first game and I couldn't understand how he didn't know how to drive the 4WD like an FF car. We were racing on Silverstone and out of Stowe and Luffield I was gaining tens of metres on him just by using the different line/apex.

Just a little anecdote.

This event was a real challenge to the point that it pissed me off sometimes when that Focus RS had such a big gap from the 2nd guy when i was trying to catch up.

But this even can be beaten.
Just like Synwraith said you need the right tune and practice to beat the event.
I had:
ABS 1
TCS 0
Driving Line on (but most of the time i dont even break when it tells me to and i do better in the cornering/ i then turned OFF the line and it was the same for me)
ASM Off
Skid Recovery OFF
--
Gear Ratio i had it at 118 speed for faster acceleration(it worked too), for the most part i left it at default gear ratio and then i lowered and it reved up quicker (like it should). :)

** and i used the DS3 controller ** my fingers got a bit soar from trying to perfect the course. took me a good 1hr - 2hrs to finally beat the event in Gold.

Overall the Bonus Race No.1 to me were EASY using a DS3 and only the fiat took me 2 tries.
But the Bonus Race No.2 is a Pain and alot harder, aside from the 1MIL Nascar event the only one i struggled with is the Focus, the other ones took me less time to beat them and somehow i passed the Mustang event in 1 try even though i skidded off the road 1 time, i was surprised i catched up and beat the guy. (i used same Aids as the focus events on all of them).

Now my problem is the damm Nascar Event. 2 laps on that Nurburing (w/e its spelled) course is a real CHALLENGE.
1str try - Best was 8th place
2nd try - got hit from behind and it made me spin real bad, never finished.
3rd try - azhole hit me again from behind when i was turning on turn (hmm 20 or so)
4th try - 6th place
5th try - 5th place
6th try - 5th place
7th try - Pissed and left the event... :(

I dont want to use Aids to help me in this event but it is really bothering me that the course is so bumpy, so narrow that it makes it much harder because you touch that grass while you are turning and it F@#$s you up.

Hopefully after more practice and 2 more days i will be able to narrow it down to 2nd place and maybe Gold.

i did it easily...you just have to be 2nd on the 3rd lap

Am I going crazy. I am trying to do the Focus race. I was doing it earlier on today with Cat mod. Now I go back to do it again my car has no modifications as I took the catilitic (spelling) converter off and now I can't do it. My car has 225hp without mods now. So I have to go buy a new Focus???

The skid recovery is gay, it takes all the skill out of the game and eliminates the time needed to help set the car up properly which I think is one of the most important aspects of the GT series (albeit you can't bloody adjust gear ratios, castor, tyre pressure and a few more things like you should be able to do in GT5)

I spent abit of time setting up my Focus and not it will not understeer no matter how ham-fisted you are with the throttle. Stamp on the throttle mid-corner and it will still keep its line and to be honest nearly pull even harder into the turn :)

Still didn't win it though as I was just getting too tired to concentrate properly and kept making mistakes when I gave the challenge a go last night.

Well, having realised that I spent all of last night running about 6 BHP under the allowed limit, I resumed hostilities with this event tonight having bought a catalytic converter from the Exhaust section of the tuning shop. As a result, I managed 1st place with Skid Recovery OFF on my second run tonight 👍

Here's the setup:

- Ford Focus ST '06
- YELLOW PAINT (important)
- Comfort Soft tyres
- No weight reductions (1430Kg)
- Rigidity Improvement (probably not necessary - noticed no improvement)
- Front/rear Aero parts fitted (Aero set to 0/20)
- Catalytic Converter fitted (221 BHP)
- Fully Customised Transmission (Set to 124mph)
- Clutch Twin plate + Semi-racing Flywheel fitted
- Fully Customisable Suspension fitted (Ride -20/-20, Springs 6.8/15.5, Dampers 1/1, 1/1, ARB 1/1, Camber 2.5/2.0, Toe 0/0)
- Brakes set to 5/8

- ABS 1
- TCS 0
- Driving Line off
- ASM Off
- Skid Recovery OFF

Laptimes:
Lap 1: 1'45.0
Laps 2 to 4: 1'42 high
Lap 5: 1'43 low

I was just trying to upload a replay but they are now 11.7MB zipped unlike GT5P replays, so have to find another way :(

Many thanks to GTRP Gantenbein and RudiRaser's advice to never use 2nd gear as I was doing in sector 1

All the best

Thanks for this. It's the first event I'm having major difficulties with and it just feels like all my winnings are being blown away trying to get the damn car to do what I want it to.

To be honest I just wish these Special Events were all 'stock' events. They should do specific 'Tune' events that practically teach mechanically inept people like me the different 'feeling' for the car after a mod...like a mod licence test for dummies. I just get the feeling I'm throwing credits away adding mods that don't always help me.

Absolutely. Especially for these Seasonal Challenges, with the HP and weight limitations, the focus on getting your setup right is even more crucial.

Instead of tire pressures, I suppose you can put medium compounds on the rear and softs on the front. I had some soft and hard comfort tires for my Mini and tried that, but was sliding all over the place.

Lets see your setup!

Just came second. 23 seconds behind 1st place. I really don't understand how I can be so catastrophically bad at this particular event.

This was a fun one - even though Im not a big FF fan. I didnt lower it as much as Maz have done and I upped the camber and used toe settings to get rid of some understear. But the main thing was to ditch the traction control. , After i did the event several times and couldnt get down on 42´s I checked the traction It was for some reason put at 5. Lowering it and using high gears produced victory.

I have to add my car was not in yellow but in the color of real men - orange.

Turn's out Synwraith's set-up is completely useless. I'm no quicker...at all.

The only thing I didn't buy is the Aero package but I doubt that would suddenly buy me 10 seconds through 5 laps.

More money wasted.

setup goes hand in hand with driving styles.....and the fact that can YOU maximize the performance change in the correct places, you ain't going to go faster unless you adapt your driving to the setup change.

so don't blame other for your fail.

Done it again. 2nd but only 5 seconds behind the leader.
I realised TC was set to 5 so I turned it off and gained 18 seconds. That's quite a jump but I'm still infuriated

Jon, I think it is time to re-open the Thunder & Lightning tuning garage? I'll never forget the "understeer" tune you crazies sent me for the California back in Prologue

You're welcome 👍

There is a lot of truth to this, it took me all the 2 and a half years of driving on GT5P to realise what kind of settings suited me best and I could apply them to almost any car by the end of Prologue's life. It also depends heavily on how consistent your driving is and whether or not you can sense what your changes have affected.

I beat it after a few tries on the stock settings. Was tough but I liked the challenge.

Will post a video up later on it.

@Synwraith , many thanks for the setup 👍.

First lap was a high 1.43, middle laps were mid-high 1.42 and last lap was a 1.44 (bit of a scrap with the leader...)

In terms of aids used. Skid Recovery on, abs @ 1 and driving line on everything else off. I didn't pay alot of notice to the driving line braking points as you can brake really late! The last corner is the one I had most trouble with. I used my DFGT as with the pad I could get below 1.45s.

The car gains power as the engine runs in after a while. I couldn't do the NASCAR with the one I had, I had to buy a new one for that reason.

If that is your case, then so will you, sorry...

Oh I give up. Damned Focus is agonisingly slow around those big corners and it's frustrating the life out of me.

Did it ever close? I think its just a case of a long portugees siesta and the fact that our spokesman has been moderated. ;) But I think most of the garage has woke up and are ready to do some business. I hope to see more of events like the focus one where tuning and a limited use of product from the tune shop is necessary to make 1st.

I wasn't having a go at Synwraith at all...I was really fed-up I couldn't manage to do it hence I wasted money because it didn't improve my performance. It's pretty obvious it does work since it's help himself and others already.

For the record I'm using a DS3...which might not be helping matters.

Anyway...
You're welcome 👍
...I managed to do it in the end although the game left me no choice but to cheat...ABS 1 and SRF 'ON'...being as I'm not a mechanic and I don't fully understand how these changes are affecting the car all the time. I hate myself for having to do that...it's a let down.

I imagine there are a very very small number of people who could do this challenge without Skid Recovery or ABS on a DS3, that would be a greater achievement than any of us wheel users using ABS but no SRF, you have nothing at all to be ashamed of 👍

I already think this is the toughest of all the A-spec based events to gold on GT5 without Skid Recovery.

Cheers fella. I suppose, in context, it's a let down because with any other racing game (PS3 or XBOX360) I switch off the assists all of the time and I can still cut-it. This god damn Special Event broke me

Well yesterday I literally did that focus st challenge all day. I never got within closer than 6 seconds from the leader. My lap times were within a 100th of a sec. from each other. I couldn't gain anymore time, I was just getting more tired. Finally I looked up a setup here from someone not using aids.. it was JJ72's setup. That got me to within 4 seconds of the leader but after countless attempts I couldn't get any better. Differences in driving style I guess. That's when I tried out SRF just to see what it was.. I think I passed the leader half way through the last lap. So basically I never got better than second place, I must be getting old.. or couldn't get a setup that matched my driving style. SRF is a total cheat though- compared to having it off.

When I went to do the Mazda RX-7 challenge I used a setup I found on here and beat the test with 1.00.xxx on each lap, passing the leader on the 9th lap. I couldn't believe how amazing that setup was. I thought I had my touch back, then checking the settings SRF was ON still. I was like WTF! I then tried it again w/o SRF, it added 2 sec. a lap and I couldn't get better than 9th.. So these bonus races are hard for sure, you need a setup that suites your driving style and you need many consecutive very clean laps to win w/o aids. Without either you won't win, at least on the focus and RX-7 bonus races. I golded all the first bonus races with my own setups..

Tried the Focus ST challenge again.

0:05:230 off 1st place. What a load of rubbish I am.

Bit off topic, but is it possible to export/upload replays from the game now or?

You can export replays to the XMB menu, but not to YouTube. With prologue they were always accessible in the Game Save Data folder and they were pretty small in comparison, so they could be zipped up on a PC and attached to posts here. Have to find a new solution now I think.

If anyone can recommend somewhere to upload the replay if there is demand, I will happily do that. There are a few other replays of winning runs around though 👍

But can those files be played on the PC? Or do you have to download them and add them to a PS3 again and launch GT5 to view it?

Edit: Btw am using your settings, though haven't bought the aero parts, are they needed? Anyway, my best lap has been 1.44.7xx, i have no clue on how to hit 1.43 really :/ Would probably be easy with SFR on, but i really want to make this without any aids.

I got it this evening. Impossible without skid recovery.

Just managed to overtake in last corner of last lap, and even that took some... euhm... physical force.
