That render does a really good job of looking exactly like the Giugiaro concept. I won't give Ford props for simply fixing all of the design problems the current car has and calling it a day; especially when it manages to rip off the Giugiaro concept so fully, yet somehow screws up the best details anyways.

Ford needs to do a better job hiding the 2010 Mustang...

Jalopnik has a bit more...

What the HELL is with those turn signals?

It looks as if they're aping the '70 this time around.

Yeah, I think that's the point with this one... Personally, I like the '69 and '70 style best anyway.

The render on the previous page looks like the perspective's off, but if it is or were correct, it would be awesome. Doesn't look sad to me.

This is all I could find on caranddriver.com, which was posted on the last page. No shots of the rear end.

There are also some spy shots of the '10 GT500 here (the pics are too large to post in the forum...).

HEY... REMEMBER THE '80s?

Garage419
A reliable source has told Garage 419 Ford is considering a revival of the SVO Mustang. ‘Stang heads remember the original SVO as an upscale, European-flavored special-edition Mustang powered by a somewhat blasphemous turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We’re told the new model will likely be powered by a 300hp version of Ford’s EcoBoost four hooked to a six-speed manual transmission. The new SVO could be up to 500 pounds lighter than a Mustang GT and, if the story pans out, could easily outperform the GT on a racetrack. Fuel economy would improve by as much as 25% over the GT’s current 15/23 rating. If the spirit of the 1986 Mustang SVO is anything to go by, and the gas prices aren’t anywhere near peaked, I say build it.

But first, let’s put the SVO in context. In the early 1980’s, rising gas prices and oppressive emissions regulations sent the muscle car market straight into the toilet. The Corvette, supposedly the best sports car America had to offer, barely put down 150hp. The Fox-bodied, V8-powered ‘Stangs didn’t do any better, managing just 140hp. That was the reason why, in 1981, Ford created the Special Vehicle Operations Department. SVO was designed both to oversee Ford’s racing program and build high performance, limited-edition street vehicles. The team’s first complete car, the Ford Mustang SVO, arrived in 1984.

Where engineers once would have insisted on a V8, the SVO sported the kind of turbocharged, intercooled 2.3-liter four-cylinder most often seen in a European rally car. And the SVO was no econobox; it was the best appointed and most expensive Mustang ever built. The 1984 version made 175hp, but by 1986, that figure was lifted to 205hp by way of a new cooling system. A “fuel grade” switch was standard, giving the car more power or better economy depending on the type of fuel used. But just as the SVO was taking off, the pendulum swung back. After just 9,844 units, gas prices plummeted, making the much cheaper, V8-powered Mustang GT a better value. The V8’s low-end torque arrived at just the right time, as Americans were thirsty for some real muscle.

What have we learned? Well, for one thing, the boys at SVO may not have been far off a solution that would work perfectly today.

Certainly seems predictable with the Camaro also likely to sport a 260 BHP turbocharged I4. I'd be more apt to welcome the Mustang into my home at this point however, particularly with the clear weight and power advantage. No matter how "fancy" the Camaro's suspension may be, there are things that outweigh that advantage.

That... And I LOVE the SVO!

This is great news, I loved the SVO! Definitely a great move by Ford.

Break out the anti-lag, it's BOOSTIN' time!!!

Awesome. I'd like to see if anything comes of this rumor.

I would totally drive an SVO if the mileage was good. I just wish (and hope) that they replace the retro dials and interior with something more modern and easier to read.

ITS AS CLOSE AS WE'LL GET TO THE REAL THING...

They've smoothed it out a bit to match the look of the Camaro and the Challenger, it seems. Otherwise, it looks good. Lets hope they get the right stuff in there this time.

It looks more like a redesign of the current car than something all-new. For that reason, it already looks like it's been out for a while and nothing really special.

I like the new tail lenses...but it detracts from the original retro design. Which = fail

Ew.......

They just rounded the areas around the headlights and taillights and called it a day.

Evolution rather than revolution. Makes me a bit unsure...

I agree. Some cars can certainly pull off the "evolution" look, like the 911. But those are cars that have a very unique shape on the road, cars that have a lot of respect and cars that you don't see twelve of every single day. Every 911 still looks good, and none of them have an "old" design. Most every Mustang built after the classic ones is just another car that looks like it's been around the block and back.

Its supposed to be "vintage" like the 1970 BOSS model.

Some of the new stuff Ford has released today:

I'm really digging those "modern" S/S-style wheels...

On the disguised car pics, while it would make sense that Ford restrained from a complete makeover of Mustang due to financial limitations(they've been operating on big loan(s)), the car does look really awkward there. Like they are using the current gen Mustang body parts as part of the camouflage..... I don't know.

At the very least, it's going to look a lot better than those pics suggest. I'm convinced of that!

That's it? That's what the Ford fans are raving over on the exterior? A redesign?

Wow. I was thinking this car might look quite a bit different, but it's just a redesign. I don't even know why Ford is trying to show these little "secret" photos. From that camo car alone, you can tell the body shape hasn't changed a bit except for small changes in angles. Absolutely nothing new or shocking to me.
