They were working on this for nearly 2 years and that is all they came up with? The Ford E-series had a bigger styling change.

Working on the exterior design is probably the least of their concern due to the fact their focus would be primarily on developing the car to be as fuel efficient as possible, which means the majority of attention of the 2-year development stage on the engine compartment, weight reduction and gear ratios etc.

It seems like its gone curvier, I like it, The front looks like an improvement, not so sure about the rear though.

I can see it's going to be one of those new models that at first glance looks no different to the preceding version even though it's probably 99% all new. I'm pointing at you new New Mini.

Personally, I could care less about how much they change the exterior, I just want a new engine/transmission combo with enough punch to take on Chevrolet and Dodge, not to mention the outside possibility of an IRS setup sometime. Well, that doesn't have to happen, but it would be nice.

Official deets roll out at 12:01 AM on the 18th, so most of what we have would be found HERE so far...

Even better!

There's a few things I find curious. First of all, the weird chamfers on the rear end. I can't tell if it's the same length as the old one but with angles chopped off, or if the middle section between the angles is longer than before. Hmm.

The little black plastic thing on the outer edges of the front air dam. Interesting. Kinda weird looking, but I like it. The front end looks tougher and stronger than the old one, sort of like the GT500 vs. old GT. A like the new muscley cut lines along the side. I don't like the GT's stock wheels, but many people will change those out swiftly.

My favorite part--the black side and rear valances! Woot! The car's body looks much, much thinner and lighter than the last GT with its painted parts, and I think that thinness evokes the classic Mustang more than any other part of this car.

See how long, low, and thin the body looks. So many cars today are all one color while being very thick and tall. Looks horrible. But the redesigned Mustang pulls off the classic thin look much better because of the black on the bottom edge (especially in the first pic I posted where there's less reflection). Yes, that really is my favorite part!

It looks stunning in some pictures and then it looks fugly in some of them. I'm so confused!

I'd vote "very, very, very good-looking" on this update. I definitely agree with Keef on this, they've done a better job of capturing the feeling of some of the vintage Mustangs with it.

Thought: I love this color blue!

So it only picks up 15 BHP and 25 lb-ft, but thats enough to keep things interesting with a 400+ lb advantage to the Camaro. I do hope they bring out an EcoBoost I4 option, because IMO, that'd be the way to go.

I guess there is a downside to the black-painted valances... ^^^

It's not tall... it just looks that way because the parts of the car below the hub are painted black.

Good facelift... looks more modern, more aggressive, and more in-line with the new Camaro and Challenger... two cars, which, sadly, have a very dubious future.

:odd: Why is it so damn tall then...? FAIL

O.o It's not...

It's a pre-production concept car, small details will change between it and full production but otherwise it's all there... It's the same exact ride height every new-chassis Mustang's been.

It's not quite a 'mild facelift'. Looks much better then the current model (and more aggressive). I love it a lot! One thing they could have used to keep up with the times is HID headlights, or LED's. Next time...

Same frame, close to all-new body. Many interior parts have changed also. It's a hella facelift.

It's like the 911 996 & 997. I suppose when you compare pictures of the new with the previous you can clearer see where the changes are. The new one does look better.

Am I the only one coming away like they've seen nothing in that batch of shots from Autoblog? At least with every angle, it either looks like you're not seeing very much of it, or that there is still a lot hidden and then from the angles where it feels complete, it looks rather meh. And it really doesn't look all that special at all in the LIVE shots. And then there's that rear, which looks especially bad in blue.

But despite that, I think I can still say that it looks like a good face lift.

At least it looks a bit less old and tired, but, unfortunately, the greenhouse and interior look far, far too familiar.

Yep, although I don't really mind the interior. Overall, I like it and prefer it to the change that the 370Z went through.

all that time to work on a 4.6L and they give us 15 extra horsepower.

I think they're just giving us the Ford Racing tuned version that they've been shoving in the Shelby GT, Bullitt, etc for the past few years. Not much of a big deal, more power is more power, but it needs at least an extra 50 BHP to seem relevant against the SS and SRT-8 competition.

While I'm thinking of it, Highland Green (or something similar) better be a paint option this time. No more "mint" green. I will not have it!

:banghead:

DAMN IT! THEY ONLY WENT HALF WAY! They had a chance to rectify the tail (fail)lights, and they only cut their height appropriately on half of the enclosure. What's wrong with you, Ford?

At least the interior looks a lot better.

That would have left you with a rear bumper that appeared to weigh 530 pounds by itself. The car's rear end is very tall--it doesn't need to look any taller.
