I'd probably get the V6 anyway, lighter and still has plenty of power, and it will still be less common on track than the V8, although that 5.0L is VERY tempting. Rotrex supercharger as well? Yes please.

Sexy looking thing. Agreed with them needing to ditch that engine though.

That was the original theory - EcoBoost the new 5.0L and call it a day. Its still a possibility, but Ford won't tell us if they're ever going to do it. Lets face it, it saves them a lot of money to use off-the-shelf bits and pieces that have been around since that Jesus guy was walking around. Ford won't change their plan for a while.

Maybe this is a way for Ford to ditch the remaining stock of modular engine bits from its coffers. lol

Every time Ford talks about the engine they mention how it was designed with expandability in mind, which I view as essentially saying "we are still working on the intake for forced induction."

Sounds good to me. :sly:

A girl I went out with had the 2010 GT... It felt quite lumbering; the brakes weren't what I expected, but I was surprised at the amount of grip it had.

I agree. Something like that would make a great ad. Unfortunately, the GT500 isn't exactly a car they need to advertise for...

And you know there would be people bringing their GT500s in for the recall...

That ad was brilliant. :D

And the 2011 Mustang is truly awsome, even with the V6.

Question: Is that Wustite coating going to be on all GTs or just the GT500? Would be nice if they included it on the GT, even if it was just to coat the iron liners.

So since it lost 120 lbs, and hopefully looks better, will a 500HP Stang (drumroll)
finally outrun 400HP Chevy's? :dunce:

I had to, just to many Mustang lovers for one imaginary room.

???

A 2010 GT with just 315 hp is only 0.2 seconds slower to 60 than a 400 hp Camaro.

A 500 hp Shelby will do the deed in around four seconds flat (limited by wheelspin and technique).

I think he might be referring to the Vette, since Ford fanboys believed the GT500 was a Z06 beater from the start.

Thanks for saying it for me. :D Oh, and let's not forget "probably" faster around a track too.

I don't know, the Z06 that was around when the GT500 came out had 500bhp. *shrugs*

A flat four seconds is just about enough to pip a standard Vette (depending on conditions, driver of each car, etcetera... the GT500 can dip into the high 3's)... but the older GT500 won't be able to beat a properly launched Z06 (mid-3's).

Note, I didn't know the standard Vette was so slow till I looked this up... but then, that car isn't built solely to be a drag-racer... it's set up to handle on a road course, and there are compromises to drag-ability when you set up the suspension for better handling. With a softer rear end and taller tires, the Vette would probably be much faster.

But with the new GT500? If it can dip into the mid-3's, that'd be a fantastic result for a relatively heavy, brutish car without the advantages of AWD traction.

Oh, right...Kinda slipped my mind. Well the fanboys thought it would beat a Z06 but then it couldn't beat the standard 400hp Vette.

A stock GT500 can not touch the 3's. A moderately tuned one can, I can. I still have the whole let's compare a two-seater to something that is 2+2 basically. Apples vs basically bananas. GT500/Camaro is more fair. A GT500 will never be a Corvette beater unless its heavily modified or in my case, the vette drivers suck.

Inside line dyno'd a 2011 GT 5.0. Result? 395hp at the wheels. Considering drivetrain loss, that car is actually making in excess of 435hp at the crank. :D

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/25/video-inside-line-dynos-the-2011-ford-mustang-gt-5-0

after seven pulls, Inside Line's tester reliably belted out 395 horsepower at 6,600 RPM and 365 pound-feet of torque at 4,350 rpm. That's at the wheel, natch, and since IL estimates the 'Stang sees only an 11% to 13% driveline loss thanks to its stick axle, the car is likely making somewhere between 438 and 446 horsepower at the crank – far more than the advertised 412.

And it's making that on 87 octane? Dayum. Maybe the inside line guys have premium in the tank, explaining the power boost.

I'm guessing thats with 92 or whatever is available to them. The more important question is...where is my 33 grand?
