I've read this the whole way through...and all I've got to say is EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....

get.....rid....of....that....HOOD!

this is not a friggin super duty!

the headlights I'll take, match the taillights instead of making them those odd squares
get rid of those damn sharp edges. it looks like you could lean on them and cut your arm off!

if they're trying to hot rod the Taurus again, forget it...it's too damn huge. and some of us in the older generation see a Taurus as an appliance, like a Camry or Accord.

for the person on page one who said ford would do better hauling EDM's over here:
1. they're too dang small for us to fit into.
2. Mondeo, Sierra, and one other came over here. no dice.

Like i've mentioned before, the current Mondeo is bigger than the Fusion

Were those class leading cars at the time? EDM Fords are very good cars on that side of the ocean, or at least so say the Brits. Mondeo and Sierra were over here at a time when Fords were selling and a lack of quality wasn't bringing them down too much.

Like i've mentioned before, the current Mondeo is bigger than the Fusion

The Fusion is on a stretched Mazda6 platform (CD3), and the Mondeo is only 0.5in longer, 1.9in higher and 2.1in wider. That's not enough of a difference to even notice.

I think he was in reference to the slightly older Fusion, being replaced as we speak. Nevertheless, that Mazda6-based car was quite large I thought, more than enough room for me and four friends to travel comfortably when need be. The Fivehundred/Taurus? Even better. I fit in the trunk. Seriously. All 6ft 1in of me. Its that big of a car.

We're always going to need "big" American sedans, and I believe the Taurus is case-in-point here. Let the Fusion screw around with the Accord and Camry, I think it can hold its own easily. Otherwise, the Taurus needs to keep fighting the full size cars like it always meant to (remember guys, the Taurus replaced the LTD back in '86). My only hope is that Chevrolet gets their crap in line, because I'm going to be honest, its really disappointing seeing the Impala have to flounder against the Taurus. Sure, the LaCrosse will be more than effective for getting the job done... But not having a bowtie alternative is a bit worrysome. Especially when the car was supposed to be replaced two years ago...

The SHO Mules Are Rollin' Around

2010sho01_opt.jpg

Autoblog has a bunch of SHO spy photos up, courtesy of an SHO fan site. The big deal comes from the wheels (apparently 19" or 20"), a revised rear fascia, and different tail lights. Nevertheless, they're expecting the same 355 BHP 3.5L EcoBoost V6 from the MKS and Flex under the hood, matched with a six-speed slushbox only. Not much of a surprise, but certainly full of WIN.

Yippy, just another minor trim package. If they offered a stick, it would certainly make up for the lack of more power.

I'm not sure if Ford even has a manual transmission to bolt up to that engine, much less one that would operate through AWD. Perhaps they could borrow something from Volvo? But, it seems like they'd choose to just go flappy-paddle on the slushbox. I think, for the most part, they wouldn't be too worried about it.

Fo SHO!

What lack of power? I don't think Ford is trying to make an AMG competitor here. Maybe Saleen will get their hands on the car eventually and offer something cool.

With just the EcoBoost, this is definitely a WOW DID YOU SEE THAT TAURUS GO!? car.

I said lack of more power, as in higher than the 355 offered in the other models, like the SHO's of the past.

Good to see the SHO returning. I just hope there is something more than a bodykit.

Oh, and nice to see my quote back!

Yeah they should've thrown a T88 on that sumbitch.

More power than what? Ford wouldn't offer a SHO Taurus if it had the same power levels as other Tauruses. And this thing makes far more power than the old SHOs. The last SHOs were putting out 235 hp.

Or are we talking about other models? The 3.6TT is a "replacement" for V8s in the Ford line up. The SHO engine didn't make that much more than the Modular or Windsor V8s at the time.

I may be getting my facts mixed up here. Is the 355hp V6 only going to be offered on the SHO or was it also going to be offered on the SEL and Limited? If it's the former, then disregard my previous comments. If it's the latter, then I stand by my statements.

My guess is that it would be SHO-only as well. They've got to keep some level of a buffer zone between it and the MKS, and I think that would be a sufficient gap.

Which is odd, now that I think about it. The only cars more powerful than the SHO would be the big F-150 Raptor and the GT500. Other than that, the big-ass Taurus will have more BHP than the Ford Mustang (GT) flagship. Hooray!

I went to my dealer to pickup my plates and on a desk in the sales manager's office was the 2010 Taurus brochure. No mention of EcoBoost or SHO. The 3.5L V6 was the only drivetrain listed. So my guess is that the EcoBoost will only be in the SHO trim model.

Somewhere was saying that the 3.6 TT would be putting out around 400 hp in the trucks. Chances of the 3.5 putting those numbers down instead of the 355 in the Flex?

Unlikely, I think. I don't know if that transmission is designed to handle that much power. I'm under the impression this is still the same unit that was co-developed with GM a few years back that sees duty in just about everything new for either of them.

Haha, sorry for disturbing you. It was more of an expression rather than a literal action.

Or was it?:sly:

dude, I can see that for something with REAL performance, but a SHO??!

It is epic. Everyone knows it. Who cares if it looks the same? Check out caranddriver.com for more details - they got like 200 pics of it from all angles. 355 HP in a full-size family sedan? F-U-N!

So the SHO is now officially official. I saw the interior pics on autoblog and I gotta say they did a damn good job. The interior looks a hell of a lot better than the regular one too. I'd say it's one of, if not the best interiors to come out of Michigan.
