What we think about the latest rumors of the next PU, which would probably arrive in 2030/2031?

2.4 liter turbo V8 engine with non hybrid component. Supposedly Mercedes and Audi were the holdouts insisting on turbos. All this has been widely reported but I also imagine it could be made up? I dunno.

Because Mercedes was confident they had another PU106 engine in their hands & so far, they've been right. Audi & Honda were the other holdouts b/c Audi was already multiple years into the V6 development & Honda remained committed to electrification by the time last year talk of teams meeting up to vote for a 2029 change was proposed. That's been pushed back to give time for things to play out & would not have had the majority vote anyway.
 
The problem without hybrid is always the consumption. In 2026 they're allowed running max of ~92 litres capacity, in 2013 with the last V8 + no refuelling tank capacity was 210 litres. Will they start with much fuel again or bring refuelling back? But under refuelling overtaking/battleing was way to much time consuming and usually "we get him next stop". And we know it's impossible to overtake without artificial help, DRS back? But to reduce fuel use they probably keep the 2026 straightline system so no "DRS", what then? Parades like back in the days? I'm always reading this V8, V10, no electric and getting PTBS of loud cars but 99 % races beeing boring parades.

^WRT all your comments, yes I say bring back refueling. AFAIK F1 is the ONLY major race series that doesn't allow refueling. And I find that dumb. If they're concerned about safety (no clue why given the caliber of F1) then set a minimum pit stop time allowed.

As to passing I think the aero revisions for this year have helped that a bit. I think active aero is better than DRS, but not by much, still its a step in the right direction. The reduced size of the cars has helped more I think. And they can and should get smaller still.

Get rid of the downforce and overtaking will become natural. problem solved.

They have done that, they've just paired it with frustrating PU regulations which makes it difficult to know the difference between actual overtaking and recharge vs discharge overtaking.
