Because Mercedes was confident they had another PU106 engine in their hands & so far, they've been right. Audi & Honda were the other holdouts b/c Audi was already multiple years into the V6 development & Honda remained committed to electrification by the time last year talk of teams meeting up to vote for a 2029 change was proposed. That's been pushed back to give time for things to play out & would not have had the majority vote anyway. What we think about the latest rumors of the next PU, which would probably arrive in 2030/2031?
2.4 liter turbo V8 engine with non hybrid component. Supposedly Mercedes and Audi were the holdouts insisting on turbos. All this has been widely reported but I also imagine it could be made up? I dunno.
