What's even the advantage of doing that? It reduces safety, and reduces the strategic impact of pitstops. Both of those sound bad to me.

They seem to think otherwise, according to this article.
The FIA has made it clear that the maximum speed cannot be changed for Monaco, but it is looking to intervene for Zandvoort and Singapore and increase it to 80km/h for those grands prix.

This should shorten the overall time loss through making a pitstop, enticing teams into different strategies. For Singapore, for example, the total stop time could be reduced from approximately 29 seconds to just 23 seconds.

But, the FIA has clarified that "minor adjustments" to the pit lanes in Zandvoort and Singapore are needed for this change. These need to be completed and approved before the plan can be officially communicated.

It looks like their belief is if you make the pit stops faster, it will entice teams to stop more b/c they can get the cars in-and-out faster, therefore impacting their real goal: increased fan entertainment.
 
Well I guess if the rain that is expected for the race tomorrow does come, we are in for another chaotic event.

Lewis and Ferrari's timing on the tires was spot on. He probably would have caught the McLarens if they didn't have another safety, cause he was flying there for a bit. That said, if it does rain tomorrow, I think Ferrari might be in trouble because the performance on that inter was really poor compared to the Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and even Williams. Speaking of Williams, I reckon they might really be a threat to the 4th best team from the top and right now that seems to be Ferrari.

Wasn't expecting much from this weekend but it's been alright so far. Let's see how the main qualifying goes later.

It looks like their belief is if you make the pit stops faster, it will entice teams to stop more b/c they can get the cars in-and-out faster, therefore impacting their real goal: increased fan entertainment.

Judging from a quick scan of that article it sounds more like they don't want to up the normal speed limit, they want to adjust the tracks that currently require a slower than usual limit so that they can have the standard limit.

I was thinking more in the case of given that there's a fixed strategy anyway (as most races have), you lose less time in your pit stop, so you need to worry less about the gap you have behind you.

Yes, which was the outcome of the initial discussion of them raising the standard limit from 80 to 100. Which would be totally ridiculous and has rightly been shelved it seems.
 
5 sec penalty for Bearman for unsafe release. Drops him out of sprint points, replaced by Tsunoda.

There’s also some alternate angles/pics of Max’s position at the start and he was clearly in his box, stewards were correct not to penalise him.

I haven't fully fact-checked this, but apparently the sprint was the first time Verstappen finished outside the points (not counting DNFs, and classified non-finishes) since Spa 2016

Max on pole. Lando 2, Kimi 3, Oscar 4.

Oscar was faster in Q2, didn't hook up either of his Q3 runs.

Top three times were so close! Great lap by Kimi.

Nice to see both Williams, Tsunoda, and a Haas in Q3. Still not used to rooting for Ocon.

Hope we get some weather tomorrow.

Good news, Leclerc made it to the grid unscathed today.

The academy race earlier was washed out (an understatement) but it’s looking much better now.
