2 weeks after (SPOILER ALERT) Sebastian Vettel's victory at Spa-Francorchamps, F1 returns and the next race takes part at the legendary, at GT5 featured circuit Autodromo Nationale di Monza.

The race will begin next Sunday, September 8th, at 2pm (local hour in Italy GMT+1) , 1pm GMT.

Track length: 5.793 km
Race length: 53 laps (306.720 km)
Characteristics: It's the fastest circuit in the entire championship. Years ago, the circuit had no chicanes and they were made in order to make it safer. Home of the "tifosi", the italian Ferrari Fans, in this circuit the highest top speed at F1 in history was achieved by Jean Alesi (363 km/h!)
The first race here took part in 1950, being Monza one of the classic tracks at F1

2012 podium:
1st Lewis Hamilton
2nd Sergio Perez
3rd Fernando Alonso

Fastest lap: 1:21:046 (2004, Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari)

Fastest Pole: 1:20:089 (2004, Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari)

Qualifying Lap 2012: Lewis Hamilton

Edit: I'm not able to put a track map. Someone could do it for me? (Thanks to LMSCorvetteGT2 for reminding me)

Getting a lot of different reports for weather, but about more than half of them are calling for rain on Sunday, while others are saying it's just a chance of a thunderstorm. Could be interesting.

No rain in the weekend. Merc better go back to whatever they did in Hungary.

God damnit spoke too soon. Wardez, where'd you get that?

Official site, which is sometimes right, but when it's wrong, it's really wrong.

But yeah, if Merc can get an all dry weekend, they can do really well.

So what kind of top speeds can we expect from this era of cars at Monza? I've read anywhere from 205mph to 215mph.

Wish we would see something like this:

But it seems unlikely since the cars have definitely been slowed down some since then.

I'm going to Monza :D leave tomorrow so we get to do the Pit walk on Thursday, sitting at the entry to Ascari on Sat/Sun if you see an Ulster Flag (Google it(or if you can't be bothered to google it's an English flag with a red hand in the middle with a crown above it)) with 'Ulster Says - Leave Kimi Alone' on it (cultural joke), that's me :D

I'd presume most cars running at their absolute maximum with a draft, KERS, DRS and the right engine mapping will be topping out at around 210, with a few probably reaching 215. RedBull will likely be slower on the straights as they seem to prefer acceleration of outright top speed, even at high speed circuits.

I disagree, the pace the RB showed in Spa was down to gearing, they'll be up there but I think we will see a strange boost in pace from McLaren, always went well at Monza, but again, the Ferrari looked well at Spa so hard to count them out, this is going to be a great race

Well considering Jerome D’Ambrosio had a top speed of 217 last year it's quite realistic.

I've read that Perez reached 217 too in the 2011 race

Yeah it was the 2011 race Lotus did it last year as well, while RBR were much slower and only about 208-209 I think.

Also not to be rude to the OP but if you are going to do these threads it's always nice to do it the way others have with a track map and an imbedded video of last year pole lap (Lewis).

That 21( with 3 yet to be confirmed) race schedule next year looks hectic. Good thing I can walk to Albert Park and watch the rest of the season from home.

To be honest, looking at next season's calendar, if all those races were able to be staged I can't see a problem with 21 races. I know they've all agreed on a max of 20 but one more can't hurt if they sort the logistics correctly?

Let's see. I woudn't like Vettel to win this championship again...

If anything I see him gaining his gap at Singapore or Korea, not here though. And if he is beat at those two, Japan and India for sure will be in his pocket. However, we will have to wait and see as well as hope this isn't the case.

Boy, that longer wheelbase on Kimi's car really makes a difference....not! Kimi and Jenson had the exact same times at the end of practice 2.

Also, as always, I'm left scratching my head trying to figure out what black magic Red Bull uses to seemingly pull all this speed they have out of thin air. I completely understand they have one of the most competitive chassis in the field, but their consistency and under-dramatic efforts in achieving their success usually catches me by surprise.

Maybe you should make the race threads when the regulars don't do it.

I think I'll certainly give it a shot one of these days seeing as my Spa 24 thread did alright.

Red Bulls slowest in the speed trap to, they are obviously confident that they can both qualify on the front row with a higher downforce setting and pull away before they get into any straight line fights.

Looks like the only thing that'll make this race exciting is a huge crash at the start -.-

What's the deal with Gutierrez being consistently faster than Hulkenberg? Different parts or is he actually getting that much better?

Probably different parts, and I heard Hulkenberg's not that happy with Sauber

Be careful what you wish for. The last big crash at the start of a race Alonso nearly got his head taken off.
