Sadly, that's it for Russell I fear - as if they haven't already, Mercedes must back Kimi for the title win from now on, Russell will just have to accept it.
 
Yeah that's looking like it may be it for the title fight. What an amazing drive from Kimi. Originally had predicted him for the win on the F1 app and then realized how silly that was with the penalty...can never count out a rocketship 😅
 
I have to admit, growing up watching F1 and hearing the Italian and German national anthems played in reverse order is kind of bizarre :lol:

Incredible win for Kimi. 100% deserved of course.

I feel almost sorry for George who clearly thought he’d get an easy WDC and now finds himself the #2 driver and rightfully so.

I still think he’s a top tier driver, but he clearly doesn’t get on with these regulations. Much like Piastri or Hamilton with the last set.

Chin up George, and now help kimi for the rest of the season.

In fairness to George, the red flag/VSC did not help him while it really played into Kimi's aggressive strategy. Also, Monza with this race package made overtaking rather easy compared to last season.

Still, rather obvious that George needs to develop that champion mentality and stop playing the nice guy.

Whatever the reason, he's slower than Kimi under this regs just like he was kind of naturally faster than Lewis under the old regs. Champion mentality yes but especially pace to his teammate.

Yeah. I think George has the mentality. He just doesn’t have the pace and there’s not much you can do about that.

Just seen Lee McKenzies interview with Sebastian, got to say it was good to see Seb the man.
 
Wow, what an outstanding Grand Prix and one for the history books. The 2nd joint-longest climb up the grid to win, Antonelli ties Bill Vukovich at the 1954 Indy 500 for a win from 19th, with only John Watson's win from 22nd ahead.

And to do it with so many passes on track to get to the lead by lap 18 is insane, then to battle back through after the stop. Incredible drive by Antonelli.

So much passing. People like to moan about just pressing boost buttons to get past, but watch the racing, so many passes are made in the corners and we have just seen so many of the best drivers in the world wheel-to-wheel for lap after lap after lap after lap after lap. This was one of the best Grand Prix of the 21st century easily.
 
Considering what we've had at Monza before, Kimi winning this race was not at all in my predictions. I thought he'd finish top 10 and might not even reach top 5. But he was in a league all on his own. Really well done! Drives like a champion already and he's well in his way to earn that title. Also, Russell has got to be really scratching his head after this one.

Now, Ferrari.....After all this ADUO and upgrade talk, I expected so soo sooo much more. First thing first, Charles keeps driving like he only needs to beat his teammates, and fights hard for the multi year contract that he already secured. I find it hard to believe that he ever thinks of or play the team game. He's been driving like this ever since he was partnered with Vettel and it does not seem like he plans to change that approach anytime soon. Second, why didn't they pit Lewis under the VSC when he was clearly using the same tire compound as Kimi and Max? Third, they had no pace whatsoever. Wasn't their car supposed to be less draggy than the Mclaren? There's been so much talk about their upgrades and getting ready for Monza, one ended up in the barrier and the other one got overtaken by all of their main competitors worth mentioning...just an embarrassing performance overall and to cap it off, Mercedes got a 1-2 there too...🤦‍♂️

Let's see how he manages the rest of the season because we have some proper wildcard tracks coming up: Baku, Madring and Sepang.

Just to be pedantic (this is the internet after all) Indy 500s have never been Grand Prix. They have been F1 world championship races, but not Grand Prix.

Indy has its own Grand Prix, which has also never been an F1 race. The Indy Speedway has of course has held World Championship F1 Grand Prix races from 2000-2007

Piastris biggest lead was 34 points. He eventually lost by 13 points. A drop of 47 points. Antonelly is currently has a 66 point lead. Even if he drops off like Piastri did last year, he'd still comfortably win.
I'd say that Antonelli looks a lot stronger so far than Piastri did at the start of last year, so I think it's very unlikely he'll drop off like that, and he'd need to drop off worse to lose the championship.

Of course anything can happen and it's not impossible, but it would be the biggest fumble in F1 history.

Yeh, Antonelli looks good for the title - he's still a bit impulsive, and he was lucky to get away with the gravel trap error yesterday, but he's the real deal in terms of talent and raw pace.

Also, you have to say it, but George Russell just doesn't look the part this year - he's been struggling and complaining alot about a car that is almost certainly going to win the Championship - what more does he need/want? And, despite his experience advantage, he's not really translating that into benefits or composure on the track - if anything, it's Antonelli that looks more comfortable and under less pressure, and I think he has George beat.

The consistency that Kimi is showing is impressive. Apart from Silverstone, every race that he finished so far this year, if he didn't win it, he is on the podium. If he keeps that going and assuming he doesn't have anymore reliability issues or make silly mistakes that would take him out of a race, I really can't see him losing this championship. What's even more impressive is that it is his second year in F1. Considering how he performed last year, I would not have expected such solid performance from him this year. I thought he might need another year to get up to speed and build that consistency but no, I'm truly impressed and I think he truly deserves that title this year.

I also thought George was going to pull a Max 2023 but for all his talk about how he got the measure of Lewis, to be consistently beaten like this by Kimi, on pure pace no less...his ego has got to have taken a hit. I'm sure he'll win more races by the end of the season, but for me, after that win from Kimi at Monza, I really can't see George beating him to the championship unless reliability strikes or he starts to make a ton of mistakes and losing massive points in the process.

Remember the last few years with Lewis. Everytime Lewis said something about the car not being up to the task (and it wasn't), George was always there to say and show that it's not the car. For my take, the car is perfectly fine especially considering how dominant it's been so far this year. I think he is trying to find an explanation as to why a veteran F1 driver is being beaten by someone who is relatively fresh in F1...The way I see it, assuming he is racing well, even when George is not winning, he is still a ways ahead of the competition in a car that, even if there was an issue with it, is still fast enough to gap the competition so I'm with you, I don't know what else he needs or want
