I refuse to believe this a pure PU issue that's solely down to Honda.
McLaren in 2017 were arrogant enough to call their chassis one of the best, and put the blame purely on Honda.
Look at what Honda and Red Bull achieved together. I refuse to believe Honda lacks the knowledge and expertise to resolve this issue.
I'm going out on a limb and say that Honda are probably given little to no wiggle room in order for Newey to design a perfect chassis.
I wasn't saying that it was the case but listening to Newey and Aston Martin, it's almost as if they are just blaming Honda for their shortcomings.

I do agree with you that Honda should have the knowledge to get on top of things as they've proven in the past. My question was more about how they could have missed the mark that much. MagpieRacer already mentioned that it was because they dismantled the old teams and are starting completely from scratch so I can see why they'd be struggling.

It seems like Newey and his team made the same mistake as McLaren, trying to make everything as tight as possible and Honda just wasn't ready for those kind of demands. They were given more freedom and less pressure when they switched to Toro Rosso and caught up. Meanwhile McLaren started that season by burning the bodywork with the Renault engine during testing in cold temperatures.

That was a really bad hit! I hope he's okay. That car is definitely not going to be ready for qualifying.

That thing just snapped on him like he had 100% rear brake bias.

Whoa wait Antonelli's car is fixed?

Yup. Apparently Kimis car didn't suffer any chassis damage from the FP3 crash. The red flag from Max's off also bought Mercedes some extra time to get it fixed.

You would think RC would have yellow flags at pit or even close pit lane with a car moving so slowly at entry.

It looks like the Makita battery wasnt attached to the piece that NOR hit, that looked like just a 3D printed air tube.

Its a duct to go from the outlet of the Einhell air blower to the pod for their car.
It converts the round to the oval shape Mercedes use.

Hadjar P3, it's like they gave the good RedBull to the wrong driver this weekend.

I fear it could get boring fast. Question remains how close Verstappen could have gotten to the Mercedes.

Mercs looking wicked fast. 😮

Good job, Hadjar. 😐👍

McLaren being awesome was nice while it lasted. Hope they perform better tomorrow. 😅😤😭

Really impressed with Mercedes so far, they seem to have nailed the new regs once again! Will it finally be a WDC for Russell this year?!

If it's true that Merc sacrificed sector 2 for sector 3 more that other teams (and it's not just a saying by my TV channel), i guess there's still much to learn for the teams, even without looking at strategies in a race.

Surely a dominant performance by merc, I would expect them to have a similar gap in the race given the longruns we saw so far. Will be interesting to see if it’s the same on tracks that don’t need extreme measures for energy harvesting as Melbourne is on the extreme side of this and how fast other teams can catch up in terms of energy management. George needs to pack as many wins as possible until then.
Good lap by hadjar, joining rb with the regulation changes is the best thing that could happen to him.

Disappointed by Williams and haas, positively surprised by Audis pace. Let’s see if they can back a point or two tomorrow

So the order of the midfield hasn't really changed from last season.

I don't know what's the biggest disappointment: Ferrari ultimately being a second behind Mercedes for all the showing in testing and in free practice, or Alpine having made absolutely no progress.

Audi definitely the biggest surprise to me: A genuine Q3 contender in their maiden season. That's very impressive.

I don't think Antonelli is going to be challenging Russell for the win, he's made mistakes on almost every lap during qualifying.

Haven't they been designing their engine for a while now?
I know chassis development only could be done last year

As has Russell, like when he collided with a car in pit lane as he was trying to force his way through.
He had to give way to traffic already proceeding, he doesn't gets his front wing damaged and then moans.
