I have been trying for an hour with the trick of going through licenses b1-5 to get the formula GT in the used car dealership and still nothing... Does anyone have any more ideas??

Online Car Dealership. It updates every two weeks with desirable cars, and the FGT(every week). Its below the seasonal events button.
Edit: You've got it now I see.

After playing around with no success, I went back to the standard setup with these mods:

Brake 5/2
Dampers only rear ext 2 ticks less then standard
LSD 20/45/30
Gears depending on trac
Driving aids active (traction ctrl 5 abs 3 others on)

Thats all. Now I can drive circles around the pack.

And of course, I practised a lot... my initial error was to think that any car's settings must be changed to achieve good performance. Not with the FGT...
