Engine Manufacturers revealed
Written by: ED
Nurburg, Germany – 12/03/2007

Formula GT will not extend Polyphony Digital's engine manufacturing contract into next season due to undisclosed reasons. There was also talk that Formula GT would buy out the contract Polyphony Digital has on building the chassis for the cars, which would leave engine design and chassis design to the manufacturers.

A total of five engine manufacturers were revealed, all from major automobile giants, with Ferrari leading the way.

"It was very important for us to get Ferrari signed," said a Formula GT spokesman. "The world-wide prestige and professionalism Ferrari brings is something we wanted in Formula GT."

There were no concerete specifications on the engines, though.

"I can tell you that certain engines will give you an advantage at a track like La Sarthe while others will give you an advantage at a track like Monaco."

However Formula GT made it clear that one of the engine manufacturers would not be building engines for Formula GT. What could that possibly mean?

Formula GT Already In Danger?
Written by: RACECAR
Nurburg, Germany – 12/04/2007

freefallen.jpg

After a huge participation turn out at the opening race of the season, the field of entries have seemingly dropped. Only five drivers seem to be even making it to practice with only two drivers times posted. Is FGT already in trouble with the sudden dropout rate of the entrants? Only time will tell whether this is just momentarily or if it is a permanent blow to the series.

Ferrari Withdraws Both Cars From Today's Practice Session After Suspension Failure
Written by: Blake
Nurburg, Germany – 12/06/2007

suspensionfailure.jpg

Blake in the Armco

Ferrari has hit trouble during the first week of practice at the Nordschleife, withdrawing both cars from today’s session after Blake suffered a massive suspension failure through Flugplatz sending him into the wall and all but destroying the car.

The accident happened on his cool-down lap after setting a T11 of 4'53.322 – keeping him on top of the time sheets.

Blake was not available to comment, although a Ferrari spokesperson assured the media that Ferrari has not got a structural problem with their suspension and that the failure was simply a ‘freak’ accident.

Others, however, have suggested the Australian driver was too rough on his car, and the failure may have been due to a hairline crack created going over the curbs during his pole attempt.

Ferrari is expected to be back on track for tomorrow’s session.

Test Driver Killed in Horrific Accident
Written by: Eugene Driscoll, GT In A Day
Nurburg, Germany – 12/11/2007

nurburgincident.jpg

Yesterday was a period of loss as it was revealed that Mobius F1 lost their faithful test driver Secaston Berke. The cause was a terrifying accident that occurred at the Hocheichen at 348km/h. It is unknown whether the driver blacked out at the time, though the rough roads played a definite part in the fatal incident. Said starting driver superberkut: "While I am devastated by this turn of events, the Nurburgring was and always will be a dangerous place. However, that sliding did not look exactly like spirited driving." He paused, then added: "Oh, who am I fooling. I just lost my best friend, and my hero."

A subsequent investigation revealed that the car had a weak weld in the roll cage, which caved in and eventually seperated itself from the car's monocoque as the F1 racer flipped for what seemed "to be an eternity" as witnessed by the mechanics and engineers placed around the circuit. This is attributed to the various jury repairs made after superberkut crashed his F/A-107 in the first qualifying session. At the time, the car was apparently, "incorrectly geared for such an arduous circuit, more for Sepang than the Sarthe, let alone the Nurburgring", in the words of the F/A-107's designer, Peter Levan. "But, superberkut should not throw caution to the winds, especially on such a dangerous circuit."

"It was very sad" said the Canadian driver, "especially because he was to drive next year after 15+ years developing and testing the new car, which would have been his debut in F1." The accident occurred when, at 348km/h, the Mobius car hit a kerb while negotiating the high-speed Hocheichen. The radio was turned on to allow instant transmissions from the test driver to make observations to the pit. "All we heard next was a loud rumbling, then a skid, and instantly we knew something was wrong. Of course, who wouldn't have guessed?"

The accident was triggered when the car's left front suspension assembly failed, and the speeding Formula racer veered into the left-hand guardrail with such violence that the engine literally bolted out of the car, hit the catch-fencing, then forced the car back down onto the track and flipped it backwards, where the crushed cockpit was wrenched out of the car. The victim, still strapped in, received a tremendous impact to the head, and his helmet flew over the right-hand fence in fragments. How the helmet cracked is still under investigation. The Mobius racer continued somersaulting down the track until it came to rest near Quiddlebacher-Hohe.

Three mechanics, a track marshal, and even superberkut himself rushed to the scene, but the test driver was killed instantly, too late for any medical help. By this time, the car sat wrecked in the middle of the road at the 3.7km mark. The victim was also in proximity to the track, and in a race environment, the results would have been far worse. "All we can say is that we were very lucky that this weld did not crack in a race, but the loss is even greater to us. Secaston was there even as a fighter pilot to help us develop the car, ready to drive it even, and he was taken from us. Mobius F1 will never be the same." These were the parting words of Peter Levan as he broke down, not able to go on. No photographs were released of the accident, a track map being the only item to give an idea of the accident.

The cremation service is set for December 16th, 2007.

I may not be able to run this. I sprained my thumb. So I cant do this with the DS2 nor the DFP. Loon still hasn't shown up for anything yet:nervous: I may be running the team alone.

superberkut, Don't worry, it's just timing and coincidence, I'm feeling alot better lately so I decided to go ahead and do my thing here.

Of course I don't have the motivation to post things like articles right now but I will in due time.

Right now I'm feeling alot better then I thought I would so here I am.

Really glad to hear you're feeling better Earth 👍

Articles and things like that can come later, I'm keen to write up a Pacific GP race report if no one objects.

Hey thanks np with the writeup on the Pacific GP

Wow, those Aussies... already they're off to an amazing start in the national championship.

Anyways, good to have you back, Earth. I'm sure the results of the last GP and this upcoming one ought to make a good write-up.

/\ True the Auzzies are off to a good start, but anyone can turn left :sly: And us 'Cans are right behind. I spent 30 min getting one lap in, I love the car and I would love the track except its wayyyy to bumpy compared to the ones in Enthusia and Forza. Otherwise it would be a great combo, I hope they fix that for GT5. Here is my final split, I was lucky to get it under 5min and I stuffed the last set of turns cause it was my only full attempt at them so far :/

T11 - 4:59.274

Thanks for coming back, Earth. It’s good to hear you’re feeling a bit better. If there’s anything any of us can do to help just ask.

anyone can turn left :sly:

Apparently. :p

EDIT: T11 – 4'50.732. Still some time left.

With regards to the race report, if people could PM me what laps they stopped and any notable crashes they had (let's face it, we all did, except maybe Blake :P) I'll try to have it done tomorrow.

Ah, just finished outside the points. Wish, I could have had a another attempt, but I was away from my PS2 for Thanksgiving. :( Good luck to all on Green Hell! I'm having one hell of a time trying to get the thing to stay on track. It's so twitchy.

You said it bro :ouch: I counted 32 restarts until I got my clean lap in. As for the race, I'll be pitting every lap. Even if I drive 'conservative' the tight turns take a huge toll on the rear tires, its nuts and since the tires are pushing orange at the end of a lap, I gotta pit or else I'll waste FAR more time spinning out in every turn and going slower than just a 20 second pit stop on this huge course.

EDIT - Okay so I have to question your times Blake, I don't see how in the results of the first race where our lap times were within what .1, now all of a sudden you beat me by 40 seconds, I know it was 50 laps but unless you pitted only once or twice even and even with the AI draft, you must have dropped the weight down to -20%. Plus being 9 seconds faster at the ring, I'm sure if I drop my weight 20% I could get in that range as well. This is all speculation of course, but is why I advised Earth to let everyone drop the weight 20% to avoid this hang up. Sorry, just what is on my mind, no offense.

No offence taken. I’ll get my PAL replay in an hour or so.

My strategy was a 1 stop. I stopped on lap 25. My top speed setting was 360, because you never passed the AI enough to benefit from having a higher ratio.

I didn’t spin once.

My weight was at 550kg, and my power at 900bhp. The run was completely legal.

My weight is 550kg here, too.

Again, no offence taken and I’m willing and able to prove all my times.

Replays.

I’m pretty sure those are the right ones. I had two qualifying and two race replays, so let’s hope I uploaded the quick ones. :p

I see, so you didn't pit once. That is well....unrealistic but okay congrats on not spinning out, lol.

Jerome

Not doing this round. Dont have enough time. And the fact that im 15 seconds slower than jump_ace's T11. I absolutley hate running this track with this car.

I can’t get a clean lap at the speed I want. I know the time I’m capable of, I just can’t get the lap together.

I keep making a different mistake every lap. I must have made 200 different mistakes today. :yuck:

I think I killed a random person in frustration for qualifying for this race...

The ghost car in Arcade Mode is the worst. I must have skidded off course 14 times thanks to the ghost blocking my view while I negotiated the turns at 170mph. My T11 time looked like jump_ace's qualifying lap!

As Blake so graciously introduced me to the other evening, press the Up Arrow on the D-Pad. Then try not to cry at the years of frustration you wasted.

I'm honestly unsure what my T11 is, I know I can go about 5-8 seconds faster on a good lap but whether I actually put one of those together is quite another issue, and one to be resolved tomorrow.

T11 - 4:59.274

Jerome
You sure thats T11? From my driving in 900 HP and 550KG, I did not achieve that split myself.

I have a 4'50, so yeah that’s surely T11.

I have a 4'50, so yeah that’s surely T11.
Hmmm, I'm just stunned at how you two were able to pull this off with the settings at 900HP and 550KG

Edit: Well, I just found out it is possible for me to get below 4'59 at T11, not sure how 4'50 is achieved though.

4'57.230

Yup 900 @ 550HP in one lap too, the only lap I could manage, lol. This is the hardest week for me imo, not a good combo at all especially when I'm 9 seconds down

Are you all on emulators? I am using a DS2; I could never use a wheel.

Emulators don't play GT4 only a few demos that I have seen.
