So, had another go at the demo today. I finally could get the volume turned up, and oh boy how sound has improved. Like with graphics or physics, there is no single huge change - but now it's just so polished, so full of detail, that it feels like it's a massive improvement.

Also, I found out that during my run yesterday the Drivatars were set at the minimum difficulty. Set it as Pro (actually tried Unbeatable, and yeah, they're not kidding when they say the Drivatars will humiliate you - they were setting LB times at each lap!). The Drivatars provided more than a decent challenge this round, showing some good defensive and offensive driving skills, and an ability to avoid collisions even at full race speeds that left me quite amazed. Their skills in the rain are still a bit lackluster, but they WILL catch your draft and overtake you without a problem - had a nice climb to 1st place in the Indy Showdown which culminated in a battle for the victory between me and the lead car that lasted two laps and involved a couple of overtakes.

Had my first taste of rain, too, and let me tell you: physics-wise, it was worth to wait ten years. Also, the graphic rendition of rain is very solid, although that's a given with baked rain.

Finally, a word on assists: in the past driving with the TCS or the ABS on felt like a hindrance for the experienced driver, and I always kept all assists turned off in Forza; while in other games, like Gran Turismo, I turned them on to bring the car as close as possible to having what is in its assists package IRL. After having significant problems controlling the Ford GT around Rio, experiencing horrible brake lock at every turn, I decided to give Forza assists another try, and... Yeah. They work as they should, now.

Nice to see the cars still pick up dirt like in fm5. I was worried when someone said it had gone. But it hasn't so good news. Also new is the windshield dirt build up, don't remember seeing that in fm5, looks good.

I seen that dirt pickup in some of the pre-release images.
Have had the Z4 on wet track as my desktop screen for sometime now.
I like the wind shield reflection as well.

Hoping to hear/see more wee gems within the game with people play-testing features in the demo further. Anyone wanting to upload a video showcasing the new barrier/tyres and crashes?

I forgot that detail in my review. Yes those seemed a bit on the subtle side for sure.

I also agree. Sound is VERY important to me as well.

Also very true. 👍

Appreciate if your kind self or others would pay attention to the audio from different car views. Is their a view that highlights the immersion more than others. I noticed in Driveclub that the windscreen view and internal cockpits had much more bass response than other views. Not sure if this effects Forza 6.

Some games the changes are more car dependant than view dependant. Also Project Cars on launch had no stereo effects regards left wheels off track, for left speakers, not sure if patched since as havnt played it until I know the game in general is bug free or at least enjoyable to play without issues.

Wouldn't mind that. One thing thing about the tyre barriers I find interesting is they don't seem to dirty your lap if you hit them a certain way. I mean, they'll slow you down enough to end any hopes of a leaderboard spot anyway, but I hit one in the GT @ Rio Rivals race and didn't get the tell-tale exclamation point.

I thought I'd give the demo a try with my wheel (TM 458 Spyder, non-ffb) today, after an enjoyable time with the pad yesterday

Eeek, it was horrible. Couldn't get to grips with it and I don't see that improving over time. Bit of a deadzone and then pow, a big lurch

Fired up pCARS to contrast against and it was lovely. Progessive, accurate. Easy to do consistently fast laps

Seems to me that the general consensus that I hear is correct, for me anyway. Forza best with a pad, pCARS best with a wheel

It hasn't put me off at all. I'm quite happy to kick my recliner back and use the pad and chase-cam* in FM6. Still very much looking forward to the 10th :D

*In driving games, I use chase-cam when I use the pad and bonnet-cam when I use a wheel

This is some of what I was trying to say in regards to the wheel. I even said the exact same thing earlier.. It's not progressive. There is a loose dead zone that is damped, then when you turn the wheel more than 30 degrees, there is too much friction.. And there is a thin line between oversteer and understeer.. it feels like a balancing act with a wheel. And it's something that seems to be exclusive in the physics model, that no other racing sim I've played feels like. It's just not for me.

Gave it another go with rivals last nite in the Ferrari. 840 degrees of rotation and 70 FF is what I'm using. It just didn't feel very satisfying to me. Ferrari would spin out on low speed turns.. Etc. anyway, I'm going to gamefly this to see if I can enjoy the full game. So we all win at the end of the day.

And I have played all of the others games you listed also, both with the TX wheel and a logitech G27. I still never had the funky handling you speak off in Forza 5. So chances are you have something set up wrong on your TX wheel when playing FM5, quite possibly something to do with the sensitivity adjustment in the wheels firmware.
Guess that's the same for my Fanatec CSW v2 as well is it? Check out the vids Alan from VVV did of the time he had with FM6 he also mentions it in there, as well as the other people in this very thread. It's got nothing to do with how I setup my wheel. I've extensively looked into all potential issue with my hardware. And if it was hardware related it would show itself in all drivetrains. I've read enough on the interwebz, particularly people like Alan, to know that the issue does exist. You either agree with that or you don't. However, please don't try to make out it's something I'm doing wrong ;)

This I did not see even after 20 laps of LRP (in reverse so the race didn't end). My car never got dirty. Maybe they fixed the demo? I downloaded it right when it came out.

This was my biggest compliant. The car was pristine and clean no matter what.

Question, so we get four races and a showcase, is that it or am I missing something? and how do you enter the rivals?

Seems you have to Restart the demo in order to get back to the main menu and enter rivals mode..

One audio feature that really stuck out to me in F5, not sure if its the same as F6, was in certain cars that had side exhausts, would be louder if you looked left or right. One of the race cars had a specific passenger side only exhaust. I remember that being very loud when you look to the right side. Details like that with audio I love.

I always race on the inside view and something I noticed from F4 to F5 to FH2 is you can make the car engine audio louder by performing 3 different upgrades. All while on the inside of the car.

1. Largest Cam
2. Headers
3. Full lightweight interior.

Those 3 would drastically increase engine audio if you were on the inside view. You would think muffler would increase the audio outside, but never has with the series. Hopefully that changes with F6.

I also noticed some of the best audio was usually bumper cam. Which is unfortunate, since I race in cockpit view.

Also don't forget to set your F6 game audio to "Theater" (I think that's the setting). It defaults with that off. Sounds much better with that on and master volume turned up. Hope all of this helps the audiophiles out there like myself.

Is it me or Indy racing is completely unrealistic? I went from last in the line to first place within 1 lap and I lapped the rest of the cars in 2nd lap. Makes no sense.

Maybe my Drivatars weren't working that race: I was put against M. Rossi, and all he did was put time between us the entire race. I barely passed 2nd at the beginning of the last lap.
You're going to have to bump your Drivatar difficulty, on Unbeatable I couldn't gain or lose a place after I messed up. I messed up in the first lap which landed me in 16th. The rest of the 7 laps I was just stuck there, even while drafting off the vehicle ahead.

The question is does the better more capable hardware highlight moreso any such flaws in the FFB from the game.
Is the issue partly then not so much the hardware but the firmware and how the wheel reacts (weirdly).

Fanatec from memory did produce new firmware for Forza releases, well IIRC this was done with the Turbo S and CSR Elite but I may be mistaken. Although I would not be surprised that they will produce one for the retail release.

What might be an idea is to do a video representation , perhaps cut a piece of cardboard to rest behind the wheel rim, draw a semi circle for turning arc and markers, add bit of tape around a rim for a pointer with someone describing the feeling/issue from the wheel as playing.

Others could do the same with their Thrustmaster/Logitech with same car/track and ingame settings.

Loved the Demo, every event was fun. The last race was a lot more difficult than I thought, white knuckle racing until the end. The starting car selection could not have been any better, it was an easy choice for me because one of the cars is my favorite, but I love the others too and easily could have gone with any of them. We have a lot to look forward to.

Glad you resisted the urge not to play the demo. Was looking forward to your reply. :sly:
And yes I loved how intense the last race was in the rain. The rain puddles and water physics added a new element of terror to watch for on the track. Something I have NEVER experienced in a racing game other than PGR4. I cant wait to try Nurburgring at night and also in the rain. :D

I've been a long time player of the Forza Motorsports Franchise (FM1-FM6), and even though Forza Motorsport 6 is just a DEMO right now, it's one of the best racing games out there. The cars have more grip compared to Forza 5 and I believe that is due to the new tire models that the games has. If you take a look at PI differences in Forza 5 to Forza 6, you'll see that the Handling stats are improved on a majority of vehicles.

The tracks look absolutely beautiful in the game as well, Yas Marina and Sebring are perfect. The cool things about Sebring is that I go to that track for all the 12 Hours of Sebring Events. The pools of water is pretty close, if we got a major downpour on the track.

Really, @McLaren? 2:33.859 vs. 2:33.932 (Corvette Rivals event) - I hate you.
I was going to give that one a try yesterday, but having to restart the race so many times just to get another lap in wore me out and I just shut it down for the day. :grumpy:

Thanks for yours and others descriptive comments...

I wasn't that fond of the crash sound when bumping other cars not sure what others think?
Curious on thoughts thus far with Buttkickers regards chassis effects bottoming and kerbs etc.
FM4 was good in this regard.

My plans for the bassy to be fully utilised are in progress with the new build. I want to be shaken not stirred. :)

While I appreciate good graphics for me, sound advancements are as important if not even a little more-so than visuals when it comes to immersion.

I absolutely positively agree!

Sounds matter way more than visuals - particularly in a game that takes a stab at realism and real-life physics.

It's the behind the scenes attributes of a game that really make you want to play it over and over, don't you think?

Tell me about it! I had to take it down to Expert even to finish in the top 3.. in FM5 I'm finishing 3rd or 2nd on max difficulty, though this can vary according to what I'm driving and the tune I'm using.

Yeap, they definitely need to change the way mufflers and engines sound after upgrades have been performed. Doubt we're going to see upgraded mufflers on cars yet again..

It definitely out next Thursday?, I thought it was the 18th..

Had to use the xbox snapshot in order to get them out, and then go to xboxclips.com to save them as they are restricted from sharing on console. I also noticed I have to resync my TV to match my uploads again

Ahh, I was just going to ask you how in they heck you got those photos!?

Though the absence of the FM6 logo says it all. :O

The Z06 is really easy to get along with and push damn near to the point where the tires refuse to stick, or maybe my Corvette lust knows no bounds.

Speaking of screenshots, I captured a bunch of the loading screen beauty shots of the GT. I'll probably have to recapture and then edit a few of them though.

It's probably the latter :p

For all that are wondering, you get access to photomode through Replays. Xbox Snapshots lose photo quality though.

Headlights are toggleable, and theres also a new slider for Wetness on the camera lens.

Those that purchased the Ultimate Edition get to play Thursday the 10th at 12:00AM.

Is that for both the physical copy or the download?, because I pre-ordered it from Game..

Ah, well I didn't know that, looks like ill have to cancel that pre-order and get my £5 deposit back..

For the digital version. Those with the Ultimate edition have already pre-downloaded the game yesterday. As soon as midnight hits Wednesday night (technically Thursday 12:00 AM) we can play the game. Well, we should be able to play the game as long as everything works properly. You know how that goes. Demo was delayed about 7 hours so you never know.

There is no physical copy for the ultimate edition.
I was going to say this but wasn't sure if it was still true. Halo 5 initially was only going to have digital versions of the Delux edition. BUT there was so much negative feedback that 343 studios are now offering the disc delux version. After what happened with TMCC, 343 studios are doing everything they can to make up for it.

So I wasn't sure if T10 changed their mind.

Are you sure they didn't give you some sort of code on the receipt or something?

Originally the limited edition of Halo 5 only came with a digital code because the limited edition would come out before the game did and you would have been able to preload the game with the code. People bitched because they didn't understand something as simple as this and now they are offering the option to trade the code for a disc on launch day.
