I expected that weird BMW M2 to sound just like the M4, but surprise SURPRISE! It actually has its own sample. Sounds amazing, in my honest opinion.

Funny how BMW has made this "M2" thing the most "M" car in their lineup in years, when the model itself has absolutely no history. Other than the copy-paste engine, the car is light, simple, has a manual transmission and looks like a late 90's, early 2000's BMW.

Have to comment on the M4 GTS, it has the FM6 sample. Does that mean the base model's audio was a cock up?

Unbelievable man - third content update, and some of the car sounds are still broken. They added the cockpit wheel to the ZR1... but no sirree, no sound fixes!

What about the new cars in the car pack though? I think we have some corkers here:

- 2017 Acura NSX. Doesn't do it for me so, skipping onwards
- 1998 Nissan Silvia K's. Yay! Man...this thing sound excellent! That turbo is beastly as hell plus the body kits go a long way in making it's stylized look and sound even better. Good clean sample here, good sounding turbo, fun to drive and sounds great at any speed IMO
- 1990 Mazda Savannah RX-7. Not a huge rotary fan but hey, for the sample, it's a nice sample!
- 1967 Ford Falcon XR GT. Nothing too considerably different here until you get to the higher RPMs and then it screams at you like a mofo, noisy much but hey I like it, it's a good sample we have here once again. MEATY SOUND is the word
- 2016 Dodge Viper ACR. Same sound as other one, shame, but hey, not much more you can work with I suppose (besides the massive exhaust overhaul the game needs)
- 2016 BMW M4 GTS. As GTGuy said, could very well be the case, sounds just as good FM6 sample so I suppose that somes that up
- 1979 Talbot Lotus Sunbeam. Yay for I4's :3. Another lover for me, no way on par as much as the XR2 (so far my fav I4) but it's a little noisey thrash around car again which keep that's nice little "old small car" burble sample which makes these engines usually a treat to hear.
- BONUS BARN FIND: 1973 Nissan H/T 2000 GT-R. Probably the best sample of this engine in the game for me, not usually a huge fan but my GOD does this sound really REALLY nice. It's got such character to it and to say that about an I6 from me is something special. Even though I was a bit "Meh another skyline?!" for the new barn find...i was pleasantly surprised by yet again, another bloody good sound sample. Why PG, why can't you do this with MORE CARS?

IMO in terms of sound, better than the first car pack and the bonus is a delicous icing treat (although that Jepp and Vulcan are nice sounding too.

As a side not, I forgot how nice the Volvo 850R sounds, deep and rich, it's pleasent. It really does surprise me what you find/rediscover in the car list, how something seemingly so innocent looking can turn your head in surprise or make your jaw drop. The XR2 only needs needs a stronger interior/exterior front engine tranny whine and "engine strain" and it would be perfection, but in it's own small inperfections it's for me still right up there as being one of those mindblowingly good sample arrangements. If they paid this much attention in the little detail for the other 300 cars then I'd be jobless and probably homeless as i'd just be playing around all day having eargasms to each car lol.

They've massacred the old-school NSX sounds in the game (both). And many others, but whatever. FM6 is a breath of fresh air, and the sound has a lot to do with that.

Anybody miss the old Aventador SV sample? Much more ferocious and meaty with some nice pops and crackles. Now its the same one-note Aventador/Centenario sound.

If they've changed it that's actually a good thing, the centenario sound is far more accurate

Pretty much the same yeah. You can't really expect a video game to present subtle sound differences between cars with the same engine.

Well, why not? If they allegedly took the trouble of putting them all in the 'recording room', then no reason why they shouldn't. Horizon just doesn't take itself too seriously, and that irks me a wee bit. Still tremendous fun.

Problem is not enough competition. Gran Turismo sat on its laurels and reaped the aftermath. Seems like T10 is going down a similar path though they brought a lot of interesting changes and additions to the franchise over the last decade, unlike GT. It's interesting though: in FM6 there are hardly any cars that share the exact same sample unless they sound *exactly* the same IRL. Horizon 3 has been full of car sound issues since day one and they have yet to be addressed.

Oh well, F7, CARS2, GTR3 and D4 to look forward to. Going to be an exciting year for racing for sure.

If you add a positive supercharger on the Diablo, it makes it have a really high pitched whine. Kinda eats at my ears lol.

Also the engine note sounds like a slightly subdued LFA.

Haha. I have one in black. The whine was so loud and deafening I had to show my girl. Its never to be driven, just demonstrated.

How can you tell what kind of engine it is, all I see is the specs
There aren't many 2.6 litre straight six engines with a twin turbo setup that provide comparable power and torque ;) It's not labelled as an RB26 'cause many manufacturers wouldn't be likely to have a Nissan engine swapped into their cars, but it's easy enough to guess which engine T10 / PG based their swap options on.

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but custom superchargers now have a sound! :D It's very quiet, but you can definitely hear the same whine that Forza 6 has. There is a unique sound effect to both Centrifugal and Roots.

@Techy

The Diablo note sounds pretty accurate in all the FM and Horizon games - I haven't fit a supercharger in it however. IRL, some chargers are very loud and almost sound chipmunk-like the higher you rev.

Hmm, you don't say... I think some cars still suffer from the bug of having no supercharger whine when they should, such as the Challenger Hellcat. Now when you say customer superchargers, do you mean those blowers sticking out the hood or simply upgrading a car from naturally aspirated to forced induction?

Yeah. I mean when you upgrade from n/a to supercharger.

Mercedes 190e sounds VERY satisfying and unique. The Nissan r35 makes odd gremlin sounds unassociated with the engine. Thing is I remember nissian warning r35 buyers that the car makes phantom sounds! It's actually in the game guys(i use interior view).

Oh and any PORSCHE! Besides the truly orgasmic sounds they produce; Porsche reminds me of bmw, because once you get one, they got you!

That is one of the meanest oldschool 4 cylinder engine sounds. I loved it in Forza 6. It's different in Horizon 3, but equally great. To me, the 4 banger that takes the cake is the Ford Escort 1600. It has that brutal and throaty carburetor sound, even if it's not necessarily a powerful or fast car.

I agree with the Porsche's and BMW's. Both have the best 6 cylinder sounds. The E36 is my favorite from BMW, and the old 1982 911 Turbo from Porsche. I can... admit I like the M2's sound a lot, but I'm all for oldschool 80's and 90's German sports cars.

Oh same here! Something very hair-raising and meaty about the sound of 80's and 90's sports cars. Off topic: they had those done really well in the original need for speed too.

I find the quality/accuracy of the audio in this game to be extremely inconsistent. Some cars sound spot on correct, but many of them sound overly dramatic and even poor quality. Nealy every cross-plane V8 in the game sounds like open-header drag missile, which kind of ruins them for me. Most of the inline-4 engines sound pretty generic & bad too, with the exception of the Miatas (and some mentioned above) which all sound pretty well-detailed and high-fidelity.

I feel like Turn 10 has not made notable improvements (in some cases it feels like it's regressing) to sound since FM2. (I have not played FM6, so I cannot comment). The sound game has moved on with Codemaster's rich, gorgeous samples & PDs more technical approach which has made great strides (911 GT3 in GT-S sounds better than FH3 in my opinion, apart from the gear shift nonsense) recently. FH3 feels stuck in the 360 era, which is especially jarring next to the stunning visuals.

I mean, when you consider the sheer size in numbers for the cars on tap, it seems like T10/PG have a 'good enough' mentality. You also have to realize that in Codies and GTS's case, the cars present are in much smaller number, meaning you can get more intimate.

Still, I agree with your sentiment, and it says a lot that a game that is 10 (!) years old this year in PGR4 destroys Forza when it comes to engine sounds.

Even something as small as turbos popping off.

@Silver Arrows Hey, that's my GT-One video.

I think about PGR3 and 4 constantly. They really were/still are ahead of their time.

Well goddamn, that solves that mystery.

And indeed, the game is still fantastic. I'm considering buying a cheap 360 and playing through PGR 3 and 4 again. I just want to drive that GT-ONE again, holy hell that thing grips.

God I miss the PGR series. The garages idea in 2, 3 & 4 was so awesome...and yet nobody has copied it. I just don't understand. Forza Horizon should have a garage/showroom feature!

And the Callaway sledgehammer....omg I still remember the towering & brutal sound of that thing.

Yeah, the Escort 1600 is awesome but I simply adore the detail in the sound from the Fiesta XR2! It has a "dirty" sound, it pops and crackles, has more detail than typical Forza sounds.
