Forza Horizon 4 Officially Goes Gold, Demo Now Available

I have to say, the draw distance on PC is just terrible even with "Extreme" settings:

You can also see a really weird artefacting in the foliage.

Weird things happened here. First, my pc doesn't run the game. I have a i5 7400 with RX580 and it requests a GPU driver that is not
available at the moment. Then I tried it on original Xbox One. The amount of stuttering during cutscenes really made me angry. Someone here has this?

I finally gave in and downloaded the demo.:yuck:

Some little things that stand out and these are not complaints as I really like the game!

Not having the right UK number plates and no front number plates just looks wrong! (but this has already been discussed) which is disappointing, not even a GB/Euro badge like AUS/kangaroo got.

It looks like no new features on the replays (so far) so you still can not select the other AI (Forza7 has this and I find it useful) There are no new settings on photo mode again apart from the focus makes a strange noise but now you press R3 on Xbox One to enter straight in to it rather than pause menu. This has stayed the same since FM4! If it works I guess why touch it. 💡

Now the positives.

The graphics on Xbox One X on my 4K TV are so sharp and detailed and I would say the draw distances are the best they have been apart from some mountains still look a little washed out. Overall the lighting, textures and houses are so detailed. This games was made for 4K, you can see the difference to FH3 in the attention to detail.

Handling has changed a little with less slides and a more solid feel to it , it will take me a while but I like it (Cockpit view). The interiors look like they have also had a make over with more detail.

Audio for me on Headphones was better than FH3, Bass Arena sounded deep bass (I really liked all the songs so far) and the engines in cockpit have a deeper more hollow sound like you are actually in the car similar to Drive Club which I prefer.

The Map does look big and I like all the twisties and dirt roads (although roads are very wide compared to most of the UK) but I can live with that. i.e Villages usually only have tight room for 1-2 cars to get through and lanes/dirt tracks are usually too tight for 1 van!

Again each time you leave the demo it does not save, but I will play it 1-2 more times but glad I have tested it. Looking forward to the 28th.👍

Very impressed with the lighting

Shock and awe. I was genuinely short of breath for the first 5 minutes.

Graphics are flipping outrageously good.
I didn't think such an improvement was possible on the same console as FH3, but they are. (One S)
Even my wife noticed the foliage improvement immediately.

I can't tell if they made the physics more like classic GT, or if it's the tuning of the cars I've driven, hopefully the latter.

Has anyone managed to get a Fanatec CSWV2 working correctly on the PC version. FFB is horrid. Works well on the Xbone version but just can't get a decent feel on the PC version.

I just gave the demo another go and I'm still not feeling the game as much as I hoped and expected to. Maybe the old Xbox One (1080p, 30 FPS and no HDR) is just not good enough at translating the capabilities of first-party AAA titles in 2018? It's not bad, but I sort of feel like I'm playing a Horizon game not developed by the talented Playground Games.

I haven't played it yet, and likely will just wait till release, but what aren't you liking if you don't mind me asking?

Reflections on cars don't seem shiny enough and tree leaves are kind of rough to look at. I think it boils down to that, but it's probably what I can expect from the old hardware and non-HDR 1080p. Other than that textures look good and colors are very natural and welcoming.

It's like you can tell that the game was developed with the Xbox One X in mind while staying within the acceptable range of what the older console could manage with a graphical dip. Again, it's probably what to expect but I can't help thinking the gap between the two consoles is too noticeable.

Wasn't there also an Xbox 360 version of FH2? While the difference between that and the Xbox One version was greater than the difference we see between FH4 on different consoles, I'd still say we're in the ballpark where it's probably time to upgrade the old setup.

I was trying to look up Base vs One X comparisons but couldn't find any, but I'm wondering with how much their pushing these consoles, if something had to be held back. They make more advancements each game so I'm betting that is hindering something on the original.

This was something that I was always curious about when they first introduced the One X. I always wondered if the base will eventually just lackluster in general in the near future. I did notice that some photos on the base hardware had noticeable aliasing issues. Although it was not extreme, it did seem a bit more than past iterations of either Motorsport or Horizon titles.

As for the gap, owning the One X, I definitely notice said gap when I play the One X versions of the games I own. I think that was the point of the console, as needless as I thought it originally was. However, after months down the line, I was extremely pleased that I actually purchased it, because some of these games just look beautiful with the updated assets as well as the 4K/HDR processing as well. Destiny 2 being a major one that stood out to me.

Yeah, there was. I think on that one they had actually removed things from the game, compared to now where things are just downgraded.

Still, that's the whole point of the One X. If the changes weren't noticeable than why introduce it in the first place? However, like you said, I feel like they're developing on the X and downgrading when it should probably be the other way around in my opinion.

Totally blown me away with the visual fidelity on the one X, I'm going to be honest I bought the one X for this game and the demo has more than met my expectations and this isn't even the final build.

The season change intro races really gave me goosebumps and I could not stop grinning whilst playing and it's been a long time since that has happened to me so I am really looking forward to release so much so that I pre ordered the ultimate edition just for the early access and the bond cars pack

Do you happen to know how old the demo build is? I remember liking the full release of FH3 more than the impression left by its demo.

I've read that it's the e3 build but don't quote me but I'm pretty sure it's not the final build .

Somehow just noticed the demo for this game, currently downloading. It's gonna take forever to download, but looks like it will be worth it.

Finally got to give it a very short try before coming to work.

I used the Charger and noticed immediately that it's a lot more difficult to drive off-road in a car that's not built to do that. Grassy fields feel more or less the same as FH3, but on the dirt roads you immediately feel the lack of traction. The Escort felt much better in the one dirt race I had time to do. It's going to be one hell of a game.

I have to say FH4 graphics (detail, draw distance, etc.) are some of the best I've ever seen in a racing/driving game (I haven't tried on X1X yet, only my PC). Looks great and just under 100fps for me - I have a Gsync ultrawide (3440x1440), maybe the Gsync is helping with the smoothness.

The system has it's limits.
I don't have an HDR TV, so the only extra my system has is a small amount of (insert technical jargon here) and upscaling to 4k.

I wouldn't buy an S if I were you, I'd spring for the X though to get full 4k, as I can only imagine the insanity.

I think this deserves more attention. When your significant other starts noticing differences in your video games, they must be doing something right
I agree, because she really, I mean really, could not care less about cars or any of it really.

I downloaded the demo just to see what kind of settings my PC can manage and it ran very smoothly on the High preset. I only did the opening sequence and drove the Charger a bit but thought it looked fairly decent. However one really annoying thing is still present and that is the fact that analogue odometer's are still static.

Been playing the demo all day on my Xbox One. Gotta say, even at 1080p and 30fps it's a beautiful game! Some of the engine sounds seem incomplete, like the missing turbo whine. But that should be fixed in the final version. I doubt the developers would leave it that way. Otherwise, the game has the stunning visuals that we've come to expect from FH games. The cars are amazingly fun to drive and the weight of the cars seems to be spot on. Car physics seem to have been greatly improved over FH3. If the demo is THIS good, I can't wait for the final version!

I'm not planning to replace my relatively new non-HDR 1080p display anytime soon. For this reason it's also unlikely that I'll upgrade my console just yet. After the car list reveal I'm not even sure FH4 is a game I want to buy.

I'm looking forward to comparing this demo to the one I played at PAX - which netted me a Horizon Festival tshirt for completing a 4-Season Forzathon.

How is it so far on PC compared to FH3?

I'm hoping my trusty GTX970 can get the job done with smooth 60fps and at least High settings.

Also been seeing some posts that says it's better than FH3 in terms of performance. At the same settings, have you all been getting the same or better framerates than in FH3?

I have a GTX 1060, witch is similar to a GTX 970.
I could play FH3 at 1080/30 with high settings and it was not smooth.
Now i can play the FH4 demo at 1080/60 with high settings and it's very smooth and it looks way better.

To each their own. Between the console and display I would say it's fairly obvious why it isn't shining for you the way it is for others.

I can't say I'm super impressed with the car list myself, but the likelihood % of me skipping a game like this, is a big flat out zero.

I'm as in love with Forza at this point as I ever was with GT. (Which is saying a LOT for me)

Thanks that's good to hear. Sounds like the game is well-optimized. Good to know 970 is still strong these days.

Surprised that the game doesn't seem to support super sampling when running on the older hardware.

Unless I am very much mistaken.
