Most franchise car games usually launch with less cars than the previous game ended up with, I don't think it's ever been an issue.

550 at launch is plenty already, if you drove each car for 5 minutes, it'd take you around 46 hours to get through the whole list.

The quality, novelty, and variety of the list is more important imo. Hopefully the really old 3D models are finally gone, and a decent chunk of the car list is new-to-the-game cars.

550 is a good launch number imo. They'll get the numbers back up quick and 550 is still a lot more than literally any other game in this same lane.
Yeah--this is still about a 125 car improvement.

All the new manufacturers we got in 5 are probably gonna stick around--Lynk and Co, Chinese MG and Wuling especially. I wouldn't be surprised if the bigger car list at launch implies we're looking at a shorter live service period in general, since Fable's going to be coming out this year as well presumably. Less excuse to put all hands on deck. Probably gonna get two years with the expansions, then one year of life support while you work on Fable (assuming it's a success), then pull the plug and do FH7 or whatever.

I wonder if the Hooligan cars are safe? Wasn't there talk of licensing issue a while back or have I got that wrong?

I certainly hope they're safe.

I say they're up in the air, but that's going to be down to the Ken Block estate. Most likely they won't make the jump, though, maybe they'll just end up in historic rally circuits somewhere, never to hoon again unless it's in the Festival Playlist.

'Cause, c'mon, you know they'll be live service cars if they do come back.

I expect the following to not make the cut:

  • Fast X Car Pack
  • Formula Drift (i expect some to be gone)
  • Hot Wheels (i expect some to be gone)
  • Universal Icons Car Pack
  • FE cars
  • Welcome Pack cars
  • Extreme E (its dead iirc)
  • GT3
  • GTE
  • TCR
  • Brabham BT62 (Company dispute with owners)
  • Hoonigan cars
  • Base variants of cars again (Huracan, 488, 911 Carrera, Bronco, F-Type, Mustang GT, Agera)
  • Promo cars like the Barbie stuff
  • Italdesign DaVinci (dead concept)
  • Maserati? - The Italian DLC thing might have them

And ofc some fan favourites won't make the cut to save them for the dropfeed.

I'm going to make one last prediction (that I won't be upset if it doesn't happen). I had a dream about Motorcycles in the game, and as unlikely as I think it is I would like to be proven wrong. Motorcycles have a lot of importance in Japanese culture and would make the world feel more alive imo. I am being hopeful but with a new engine, technology, and Playground wanting to "Do Japan right" I could see it happening.

Also just hoping for this forgotten Gem. The Sard MC8-R. A V8 Toyota MR2 designed to go racing in GT1 that never quite made it

Oh gods Horizon with motorcycles would be rad, but I doubt it'd be possible with... everything Horizon does. I can't really imagine Danger Signs and Drift Zones working well with bikes, sad to say.

I agree on Drift Zones but I actually thought Danger Signs would work really well with bikes. Especially dirt bikes. And ya it would take a superhuman to not die from a usual Danger Sign landing but is that any more unrealistic than a Koenigsegg's suspension not collapsing after one 😂

In the end, I regularly drive about 50 cars or less in FH or any other driving game I have. Car counts come and go and life goes on...
This.

Also, how many cars will we end up with at the end of the games life cycle?

FH4 started with only 450+, ended up with 750.
FH5 started with only 500+, ended up with 900
FH6 started with only 550+, surely it'll end up over 950. Maybe even 1000, who knows.

I also hope to god we see new Forza Aero. Please, I beg of you PG. I beg!!!

For anyone interested there were 534 cars at launch in FH5.
So we're getting somewhere between 16 and 65 more at launch in FH6.

Its between 16 and 65 more than the last game.
And fewer than The Crew Motorfest which launched with more than 600. And yes I know that included a lot of "special editions" so the unique car list is fewer.
But your statement is still factually incorrect.

However, the key things for me are:
1. Which cars they are (variety especially)
2. How they are used in the game.

If it's weekly FOMO for another 4 years after 4 years of weekly FOMO in FH5, I will not be playing the game for long.

There are many faults in The Crew Motorfest but:
1. Summit cars return 4 months later for purchase via the tickets, so if you can wait 4 months FOMO is avoided.
2. Main Stage cars return within the same timescale via Main Stage Legacy.

Producing the exact same game as FH5 but in a different map, is something I hope has been avoided.

Competitors are upping their game, I believe its possible that PG realise that and will up their game also. Ivory Tower have shamelessly copied some of PG's best ideas (the track creator coming in March for one). PG should have no fear in copying good ideas from elsewhere if they fit the game well.

I do still think FH6 can and will be awesome.
We will have more of an idea next week...

550 is just about where GT7 is currently at, and GT7’s car list is the most compelling in the series so far (to me at least), so I’m more than satisfied by that number. The gameplay and the world matter just as much as the cars (if not more so), and I’m confident this will deliver on those fronts. Onward to the 22nd!

The Crew Motorfest's car list is not really comparable though. There's a huge amount of padding in the list with all the rally, rally raid, drag, drift, monster truck version duplicates... And the very many "something edition" variants of cars that you mentioned, there's well over a 100 of those. Then there's all the bikes, planes, and boats, which are fine but not cars. So in the end you're nowhere near 550 cars.

550's a super good count, though I hope that most of the road cars that were exclusive to FM23, namely the following would be in the list on Day 1:
  • 2019 Toyota 86 TRD SE
  • 2022 Hyundai Elantra N
  • 2020 BMW M2 Competition
  • 2019 McLaren Senna GTR
  • 2021 Hyundai i20N
  • 2022 Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder
  • 2022 Acura NSX Type S
  • 1991 HSV Commodore SS Group A SV
  • 2020 Audi R8 V10 Performance
  • 1984 De Tomaso Pantera GT5

I bet that the reason on why there'll only be 550 cars on day 1 would be that of a lot of cars being remodeled, especially the FM1-era cars.

Pretty sure the Forsberg Racing cars won't make it either because NOS Energy drinks no longer sponsor him. Donut stuff likely won't make it either.

That leak seems legit. So in 4 months we can start over again. :P

I don't worry about the amount of cars at launch. The list of FH5 right now is also HUGE.

I am more interested in the technical side of things. Dynamic weather, changes in the physics etc.

"Over 550" isn't a good enough number for the launch day car list, where it should've been over 1,000 instead, with nearly everything from FH5 carrying over, assuming there are no licensing issues. Believe me when I say that this will cause significant backlash and controversy within the community if "over 550 cars" ends up being true, to the point where even people will petition Playground to launch the game with over 1,000 cars instead of 550.

862 cars from FH5 (this is excluding the movie, Forza edition, Welcome Pack and other promotional cars), to make room for 140+ additions, whether new cars entirely, carryovers from Motorsport, or more forgotten cars from previous games.

The physics and graphics engine improvements from FM should make this a very satisfying game to drive around in. I hope that sounds also improve strongly.

People love to complain and they'll complain no matter what, especially with the car list. You could have 2000 cars at launch and still have "significant backlash and controversy" from the community about that a limited edition RX-7 that was produced for 5 weeks and only sold in this single prefecture of Japan isn't in the game.

But being so hyper-fixated on the total number is how you end up with 50 different Skyline versions. I'd rather have 20 cars from 20 brands instead, even if the total number is lower.

The "community" should realize by now that there's a bit more work to adding cars to a new game than just copying over files. Anyone reasonable will be fine with 550 and cares much more about new Forza Aero .

The Time Attack pack sounds cool. Hopefully we see some time attack legends like the HKS Evo, Mines R34 etc. Along with some more recent cars like Under Suzuki’s S15 Silvia, the Bando Soarer etc.
