@nukleabomb that quote from the art director about "we only get one chance to do Japan" is honestly the best thing I've heard about this game so far. the fact that they spent 18 months working with a cultural consultant and actually visited Japan as a team explains the 5 year gap. FH5's Britain was fun but you could tell it was built off the FH4 formula with some tweaks. this sounds like a genuine rebuild.

the thing I'm most curious about with the bigger map and layered Tokyo is how it'll affect car builds. in FH5 you could basically run the same A class tune on 80% of the circuits and do fine. but if Tokyo has tight multi-level streets AND open highways AND mountain passes, you're gonna need completely different gearing and suspension setups depending on where you're racing. I'm weirdly excited about having to actually think about final drive ratios again instead of just slapping on the same 3.5 and calling it a day.

@sirjim73 I had the same worry about empty space between Tokyo and Fuji but the "most full" comment makes me think they're aware of that criticism from FH5. the FH5 map had some dead zones that felt like filler between the interesting bits. if they're calling it their "most full" map publicly that's a pretty direct acknowledgement of what people complained about last time.

also low key hoping the seasonal changes @nickf1gr mentioned are more dramatic than FH5's version. FH5 seasons were mostly cosmetic. if FH6 actually changes grip levels and track surfaces per season in Japan — snow on the touge in winter, wet leaves in autumn — that's a different game entirely.

Man, makes you wanna just delete all of your cars from your garage.
🤣🤣🤣 Ah, @Tomo, you wacky lad yeh. You had me snorting beer out of my nose with that one.👌🏽🔥

Welcome to the thread and I hope you enjoy FH6. Judging by my experience in Rivals twisty tracks, sprints and circuits each require different kinds of car to perform well. They're not one size fits all.

Does this work?

I don't feel like I've had many clothing pieces come up, but constant 5k-20k landings lol
I hope so. But even if it doesn’t do much more than add more low credit wins to the wheelspin, it will at least give my girl more options for looking good.

General question, once youve finished legend island what is everyone doing?
The playlist, of course. After that, Stunt Parties mostly. I use the skill points gained from that to farm wheelspins from mastery trees. I also like to grab a car that strikes my fancy and modify and paint it, see what I can do with it. My liveries aren’t anything special, but I enjoy creating them, trying out new ideas, etc. I can always find something to keep me entertained.

I play a lot of custom maps with a lot of mid-length laps and also a lot of maps such as custom Goliaths 2.0 and Gauntlets 2.0 and the such. When I like a map I follow the user who created it so I can check out their other maps. The EventLab is how I keep myself occupied.

Wow, I hope you didn't pay for the expansions if you're bailing this early.
I think many are just burnt out on the formula itself, regardless of how well done this game is (or isn't to some) it was always going to happen.

Personally were it not for mainly Goliath and testing the Trial options I'd only be checking in weekly for the playlist already too, I tried to do something with almost every car in FH5 so most of what's available at the moment I've already experienced in the last 1-2 years and know it is very likely to be one of 3 things, buffed because it has a cent supercharger, crap because it already was in 5, or good in 5 but weakened if it used a non-cent engine or relied on the 6.2L V8 swap since that engine is a different one for this game that is a lot weaker + missing the cent, just the horrible balance in general is a turn-off sometimes, the 787B is a Gran Turismo 3 childhood memory for me but I think R class was shoehorned in almost entirely to justify that 1 car being added, and I think it's the biggest cause of said balance issues, they'd have been much better off making R 999-1098PI.

Unless someone wants to drive racing cars all the time too there really was a surprising lack of brand new cars at launch, and sadly some of those are the game's biggest sweatboxes (cough cough Beat, City, '86 Civic) or completely useless (the Honda E is possibly the weakest car in the whole game, Nissan Gloria is rubbish, Montero 2800 seems to be weaker than the Evo version in every aspect), yeah I get it's set in Japan but there's barely any new European cars, and I think the '23 Acura Integra is the only genuinely new American car so far, any others are either fictional (FE cars), slight variations from previous games (Acura Integra is now an '01 instead of '00, the NSX is an updated one from the '17, Jeep JT is just what was called the Gladiator in FH5) or have been in Forza before (Dodge Ram, the RAM 1500 was in FH4 as a concept version).

I straight up don't like a lot of the track design either, too many are brainless power or ruin a good course with a long section of it to the finish line, half the Dirt sprints seem to do that and use far too much tarmac (I mean look at Airfield Trail in that Trial at the start of this series, a Celica on stock tires was the fastest option, or me being able to very briefly sit at #1 on D Gauntlet's board with a stock tires 240SX), but then other sections across all race types are made stupidly tight and narrow, as if they were somehow unaware that they could be a rammer/griefer/moron's wet dream in co-op/Trials.

It feels like PG have basically gone 'Well we've finally given them Japan' then half arsed everything else, and hey I get it to a degree, I know it's not nice to say but most of this game's player base are shallow, fake or plain stupid, it's an attention seeking simulator to some, others just want something pretty to gawp at, it's a mindless time filler for another section, and it's a place for others to create a false persona and little fantasy bubble, it sounds harsh and insulting I know but when you see some of the people who gather a following in these games you cannot draw any other conclusion about the wider community, many of them would get nowhere if the game's community was a good one with a reasonable understanding of + interest in the core mechanics.

It's not an EA Sports situation yet where the games are terrible but they know there's no alternative so no reason to innovate or polish them but FH could really do with some competition to stop PG/MS getting too comfortable, maybe Clutch will provide that but not convinced personally.

FH6 is a great game, yet at the same time I don't think it's close to what many people in 2014 playing a brand new FH2 would have envisioned 12 years of advancement from that looking like.

In my mind to be honest we could actually do with more lower classes, because the gap is far too wide. Bring back E.
Only sort of related but it really bothers me that the Peel p50 has the same PP rating as literally anything else in game. It's a whole 35 minutes slower than the next slowest car on the Goliath (at least according to my own times)

Yep I agree with this, game needs to be more about smaller cars and how to extract performance out of them.

But in my case being bored by the game mostly came from the fact that I played and finished almost every racing game with licensed car for the past 26 years, so to an extent the issue also lie on myself.

I’ve never quite understood why 100 is the lowest PI number. There so many cars rated at 100 PI that will take many performance parts and still stay 100. Their real numbers should be like 25 or 47 or whatever.

If it's that many then I guess they'll be logging off the game in droves and this'll be the final entry in the series.

Unless they're "shallow, fake or plain stupid".

When I want to run D class cars I just go to Rivals where I can drive every track in the game with any low powered car I like. It's interesting that some people are concerned about the game handing them cars on a silver platter while others are worried it doesn't provide opportunities to use their cars. Which is odd since nearly all events have a Custom Race option which enables them to run them using any car in their garage, tuned or untuned, using every class level in the game.

I'm not sure how many you'll win round to your view by insulting the majority of people who play the game. They just might take it personally. Personally, I'd wager that those who bought FH6 knowing what it would be like going in, from the preview material provided or from past experience, got what they expected and don't feel that somehow Playground deceived or cheated them aren't the stupid ones.

Has it, genuinely asking.

To me, it seems like they’ve been giving players an early chance to grab cars from the first week or two again. I missed out on the S7 & another one or two the first go around.

I hope Season 4 has some nice improvements. Honestly when the game came out we were hoping for less FOMO but it's gotten real bad instead.
Honestly,
With them repeating rewards on the playlist, I would say the FOMO has gotten better. At least now if you miss a reward you have a chance to get it on the next playlist rather than waiting months or in some cases a year or more to get cars that you missed.

Personally, I think people these days have somewhat unrealistic expectations as to how long a game should entertain them. If a game is growing a bit stale after 300 hours of playtime, I'd say that's physiological, no?

And I don't think new gameplay features and playlists with a high "wow" factor will come out before season 6. After all, if they pushed new content in the first six months post-launch, it wouldn't be a reach to suspect they just held it back at launch.

You're both right. I removed the quoted post of mine, it really did improve.

The map is gorgeous and incredibly detailed, but at the same time, that's kind of a detriment because there's not much you can actually do within the map outside of driving. I'd love just a mode where you could walk around, maybe go into some clothing shops or take a hike or something. And yes I know it sounds silly to want that in a racing game.

Sounds great, but are you not the same UKMikey who said this to me only last week when I suggested finding your own way as a fellow auto user?
I'm too lazy to go through every car to find the best one for me or learn to tune or even shift so just want to put the best time in possible with minimum effort

I agree. I've been referring to it as "50% FOMO" as you have two bites at the cherry.

It IS still FOMO though. There's nothing permanent that's been added since release (but I know it's still early yet).

My struggle with FH6 is it just feels like FH5 on another map with a few Touges added. Which is part of the reason why I still haven't made it to Legend Island yet.

The other part is that most things that has been added in the last 2 games (game loop wise) is stuff I don't enjoy, primarily because I'm a single-player player, not multiplayer.

The Playlist still spends its time trying to force me to do the things I have always hated or am useless at:
1. Drifting
2. Trailblazers
3. The Eliminator
4. Hide and Seek
5. The Trial

I worked out that 50% of the weekly tasks involve doing stuff I don't like and/or am useless at. I've already been doing that for 6 years in FH4 and FH5.

So, having asked myself why, I just stopped playing.

I wouldn't willingly continue working in a job where I wasn't enjoying what I was doing 50% of the time. I wouldn't watch a movie where 50% of it was irritating...

The additions with FH6 that I do like are:
1. The excellent map
2. Touges
3. The Aftermarket cars
4. The food delivery story (which at least does feature in the Playlist as well).

Ultimately, I'm waiting for something new and substantial to be added PERMANENTLY to FH6 that brings me back in. Another multiplayer mode like The Eliminator (FH4) or Hide and Seek (FH5) won't help a single-player player like me.

I am, but that's when it comes to competitive Rivals against other players, not custom racing the AI. As it turned out, contrary to your advice @PJ's suggested car and tune's worked pretty well for me as detailed in the What Are You Doing thread as I'm getting a lot of top 100 scores with it so far.

I'm not sure how what I said about Rivals has anything to do with the game's ability to use any car on any track in a variety of settings with optional traffic which does a lot to alleviate the lack of opportunities to use low powered cars on tracks you pointed out in your post. Hope that doesn't make me shallow, fake or plain stupid but I'm happy with my experience on the game so far.

It sounds like I've had quite a different experience to you, to the extent that these almost seem like personal criticisms as opposed to glaring faults with the game that others' posts seem to be presented as.

Yes, they forced me to drift and I moaned like hell, but once @breeminator heard my moaning on this thread and showed me how to drift with the right car and setup (as I've detailed exhaustively in previous posts), I'm getting a lot more out of it than I did 5 and that's something which I didn't find with the previous game. I've also been doing the Trial since FH5 and found Trailblazers a welcome addition.

What made 6 more than a map change for 5 for me was how it tied together all the activities into a journal and sticker album so it took me a fair while to get to the make your own fun stage. It certainly took longer than the previous games.

It also encouraged me to race online for the first time in the series which opened up the playlist for me a lot more, so I can say the game taught me skills which will help me in all racing games which adds to its value as far as I'm concerned.

I certainly wouldn't go back to 5 now, especially with two DLCs on the way which are almost certain to add new single-player features like past Horizons have done. 6 has provided a much richer experience for me to date and the games feel miles apart. Also, breakable trees rule in my eyes and they're something that just weren't around in Mexico.

Car pass purchasers have had plenty of permanent additions to the roster with more to come so the Premium was also worth getting for me.

You could be right, I wouldn't know what the vast majority of people wants. I only know my own preference. And I'm not talking about having to grind for the cars. I'm talking about using them as gameplay rewards. Either as prize for winning (a number of) races or purchasable through the Autoshow at some achievable price point.

IMHO the main issue is that some cars cannot be achieved through normal gameplay requiring hours of skill point / wheelspin farming instead. Other cars on the other hand are handed out to you like candy. If this is what you like, then that is perfectly fine. Everyone can enjoy the game (any game) in their own way.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to how this game will develop. Judging by the past a lot is still to come.
I wouldn’t mind if every car pack was an expansion which seems to be more what you’re suggesting rather than wanting to have to use credits to purchase car pack cars. I don’t know if that’s feasible for the developers, but I can agree mini expansions could be preferable to just car packs. Thanks for clarifying.

I dont know the mechanics of wheelspins, the three most common FE duplicates i`ve got are the GTR,Nissan cargo and the Wuling.Unfortunately they are not worth a lot on the AH at the moment.Ive had a duplicate Rimac and 240sx but mostly autoshow stuff.
As for the exotic dealership, thats not really been any good for me.I dont think ive seen one exclusive car and im not restarting the game over and over to try and trigger a change,I tried playing in Horizon life and solo but it didnt really have any effect, any exclusive cars left to collect I will probably get from the AH eventually. 👍
General question, once youve finished legend island what is everyone doing?Ive gone back to some of the wristband events and replayed them with different builds. The PR stunts left to 3 star are the drift and speed zones,I wont bother with the drift events, ive managed 1 or 2 stars, but I will work through the speed zones.
Odd that you’re getting duplicate legendary cars from wheel spins without owning every legendary car. At one point I had 4 autoshow legendary cars left to go and I got each one after the other (lots of lesser spins in between of course) before I got any duplicate legendaries. I sold a wheel spin exclusive epic car and another time an exclusive legendary car and I got another of each back in about a week’s time. There were a decent number of duplicate Epic cars in between but only one duplicate legendary in between.

I have every PR stunt except the huge trailblazer at 3 stars and I think I have every Horizon Story star. Now I mostly buy more copies of the cars that I like and keep one stock while I tune the others for different classes and race those against the AI. I do a lot of grinding using those cars at Street Races or I do 15-25 lap races at Road Circuit Races in between Stunt Parties to earn credits to buy more cars.

Re: maintaining interest in the game

The majority of the comments and criticisms everybody stated above resonate with me as well. When FH6 released, I coincidentally had a week off work, so I went hard in the paint right off the bat. I'm at around 245 hours played, with a few days' worth of AFK 22B farming included in that stat. This is the first time I can remember actually feeling driven towards completion, so I got a lot out of the way at first. All that being said, I'd expect to be one of those feeling burnt out at this point, but I'm not. A lot of you guys appear to be serial racing game players (DUH, since we're on GTPlanet), but I've largely been on the sidelines since FH4. I tried FH5 at first, but dropped it quickly. In that 5 year gap, I was pretty starved for new racing games. During that time, I looked backwards and spent a lot of time on the GT4 Spec II mod, and I finally tried out Enthusia. So by FH6's release, I was good and ready for a new installment. But like I said originally, I still agree with pretty much all the criticism of the game! Immediately, I was let down by the car list compared to FH4, and especially from what I know of FH5. There's been relatively few new-to-me cars in the classes I prefer to drive, so I've had to get creative. And honestly, for the first half of my time spent in this game, I felt adrift, aimless, and indecisive when it came to acquiring new cars. Only more recently have I started to feel that passion for customizing cars return, but a lot of that owes to some of the more creative engine swaps I've found (the few that there are).

Like others, sometimes I boot up the game and feel no clear direction of what to do. I think that's a natural byproduct of having a more progression-driven style this time around. It feels silly to type it out, but when I feel like that, I have to remind myself of the whole reason for even playing these games in the first place: to drive. There's only so many boxes I can check off at a time before I start feeling like a hamster on a wheel. Picking whichever car I feel inspired to use and driving it around the map for an hour is what these games have always been about for me. I enjoy racing in small doses when it's well done, but Horizon has never been a full-fledged racing game, so I don't take that part too seriously. I pick an interesting car for the seasonals, throw a meta tune on it, find an entertaining livery, and usually place 1-3 in every event. Do I enjoy meta tuned cars? Of course not, but I'd rather be competitive. Outside of racing, I never touch those cars, which shows you how I really feel. Another thing that massively extends the longevity of this game for me, and also in FH4, was that I joined a cruising club. I've been cruising in games since Gran Turismo 5, and I even have friends that I'm still in contact with who I met in cruise lobbies in GT5. Going on group drives, seeing each other's cars and showing off your own is what compels me to boot up FH6 on days where I otherwise never would've done so.

I've always played games that were more open-ended, so the story ending doesn't really feel like the game is over to me. But, I have to concede that the seasonals were a big part of what kept me in the fold in FH4. I loved having new stuff to do each week with other players. If it weren't for the seasonals, the game would feel really stale. I see a lot of people don't care for racing with others, but I find that that's when the game feels most alive. I don't seem to encounter nearly as many sucky people as some of you guys, because my teams almost always beat the drivatars. The few times that people do appear to maliciously hit me, I just drop what I'm doing and try to give it back to them before the race ends. I don't care if we lose because of it. I love a good digression, but as I worked through my thoughts above, the main takeaway I'm left with is hoping that seasonal events improve as time goes on. I'd like to have more of them, and better prizes too. The idea of a wheelspin almost always seems better than getting 5,000 cr. because I bought all the bogus clothing items already. But for the time being, I'm still happy to resume being the hamster on a wheel and check in every weekend to complete the week's seasonals.

I think it's fair what you say about "personal criticisms" as, for me, it's not about glaring faults as the game is very polished and launched in a good state.

It's the game loop (specifically the weekly playlist) which I've got tired of as that's largely unchanged since FH4. They've had 10 years to come up with a better alternative.

And the 50% FOMO. I've got used to playing The Crew Motorfest where FOMO is almost non existent thanks to Prestige Tickets and Main Stage Legacy (proving that you CAN get players to play your game without loading up your game with it). Once you've spent time sans-FOMO, it's even harder to go back to it after several years of the same thing in FH4 and FH5.

Actually, I am going to put 50% FOMO in the glaring fault category. If a main competitor can manage and actually thrive without it, there's NO excuse for still having it in FH6.

That's fair as well. I suspect their key performance indicators reveal that it keeps people playing so I'm afraid we may be stuck with half FOMO until players rise up and rebel en masse or someone at the top has some vision.

Motorfest unfortunately lost my interest because I couldn't get to grips with its driving mechanics although there was always something to do. Conversely GT7 had great driving mechanics when I played it but I ran out of things to do a lot more quickly than FH6. When the credits rolled after three days' worth of play I knew it wasn't the game for me, especially with its unforgiving economy.

I just want everyone to know that the Ferrari Luce has been an incredible addition to this game. Thanks to Playground for letting us celebrate Italian Exotics in style!

I think it’s a fair criticism of the game that it doesn’t do a great job of keeping people interested once you’ve completed the main game. You have to be able to go and find your own fun in it. I’ve had days when I’m keen to play but can’t actually think of anything to do, and don’t want to just do a few one-off races, and end up switching off.

PGG need to be more innovative going forwards. The playlist format is very formulaic and lacks imagination. Why not have an off-road Ferrari event or something of that nature during Italian month? Why is every playlist championship 3 races and why are they locked to a very low skill level? Why can’t we create single player championships? Why has Rivals seen no QoL improvements for nearly 10 years? Will they add new tracks to the base game, which would be easily done?

It feels like they are ticking along at minimal effort levels, safe in the knowledge that they have a massive player base already.
I do wholeheartedly agree with this. It would be nice to have more options on the table to keep players interested. The option to create championships would be a good starting point, especially since this is something that would work well in tandem with the Event Lab.
