You don't have to pay to access Xbox Live. You've never had to.

You only pay when you want to play online multiplayer or buy things.

Since the DLC/patch is free, it's a non-issue.

You do however need to sign up for a contract with a broadband provider, and that costs money. And it is a huge hassle, especially if you find their connection is poor and you want to change

If you're not going to play multiplayer, not you don't need to sign up for a contract and so on. Earlier in the thread we've gone through that there are many fairly easy ways to get a connection for the one patch you need. Yeah, it's a bit of a pain, but it's hardly the end of the world.

Go buy your Xbox and Forza, stop at an internet cafe on the way home, job done. You'd have had to spend the time updating regardless, so it hasn't really cost you anything other than five bucks to use the net cafe for half an hour.

Or just ask the store you buy it from to do it for you. If you go in when they're not busy and you explain the situation, they'll probably do it for you unless you get the world's worst salesman. In which case just go to another store until you find one with nice people.

Well, that's contrary to what I've heard or know. Don't you have to pay for an annual subscription? I'm not talking about the gold membership. I tried connecting to Xbox Live a few years ago. It said this service is not offered in my region.

Internet access does not imply stable, broadband internet access. Microsoft have specifically recommended a minimum 1.5Mbit connection for the XBone.

Uhun... I'm screwed then! Got a 512 kb/sec connection, and that's sufficient for me. Don't feel the need to upgrade my internet for the sake of an Xbox One.

Oh well... PS4/PC it is then.
