Well, they need “a little time” to (re)hire the 100+ staff needed to make a game afterall.

I feel this is more of a brush-off comment than one with any real strategy behind it, at least in terms of “getting a new Forza Motorsport game” anyway.

There is only one Forza series going forward: Horizon.

Maybe that changes in 10 years but I doubt it, Microsoft has no real reason to make a circuit-based racing game anymore when its primary strategic contribution was as a console-exclusive hardware showcase piece analogous to Gran Turismo.

I mean we don't need a new Forza Motorsport game, the current one needs to be finished first.
There's still loads of bugs and inconsistencies that should be resolved. I was happily playing the game with the expectation that each new update would bring us closer to a polished product, but without updates I just don't have the energy to play a game that has forever the promise of being a polished experience.

The sad part is, the player base is dwindling, yet the setup of open MP races is unique. I've moved on, but he experience of building a car for those B,C,D,E lobbies just doesn't exist elsewhere, which is a real shame.

Unfortunately the people that knew it best are no longer working on the project, and I don’t think Microsoft is going to revive a (metaphorically) dead game. The amount of lost knowledge recovery alone is enough to make leadership go “why not make a new game instead”, and the immediate follow-up question is “why not do that on Horizon instead since it’s successful”.

There comes a point in any game’s life where you cut your losses and fixing/“completing” the game isn’t worth the effort/money. Happened to WRC and Forza this year and was probably justified in both instances, as harsh as that may be on the few people still around to actively play them.

So dramatic.

FWIW I'm going to keep playing it. Played it over the weekend in fact. Had several decent multiplayer races, won a Chevron B16 (after throwing various highly-strung cars off the Nordschliefe just before completing the final clean lap I needed!), finished another series in the Builder's cup, had a giggle driving the Dodge Challenger Hellcat (seriously though - drag tyres?)...

You know, racing game things.

Regardless of the negativity it's still plenty of racing game for me, and the driving feel on my humble G920 is still fantastic.

Speaking as someone who's half-African I bet you never thought you'd be racing around Kyalami in a videogame in 2023. Project Motor Racing's version had better be as good.

Well, once again I'm baffled. Hadn't played this game for months. Even stopped following the threads.

I actually haven't played any racing game for months because I've had so many other games to play and work has been busy.

I love AMS too but it's my first PC racing game and I spend so much time binding unbinding and binding again my wheel and it's too frustrating until I figure it out

So, I dusted off the Xbox and thought I would give this another try, basically because it was easy, not because I desire to play it.

Race for about an hour and I loved it. I have no idea how many updates I missed but I thought the game was like night and day from the last time I played. Purposely started in the middle of the pack for my races because I wanted to see if the AI was still going to bully me and I didn't detect anything like what I used to face many months ago.

I can't wait to play tomorrow, which is something I never thought I would say. Had it not been for my struggles with getting ams2 to work with my wheel I never would have tried Forza again.

It's possible I just haven't played long enough to see that the game is still bad but I had a great time with it, no complaints.

It's just so unfortunate that as the game was hitting a stride of becoming much better and content was making some kind of progress, then the plug got pulled "temporarily ". It's been nearly 5 months since we got something fresh or updated for this game. Such a good foundation to build upon right now but we have to wait and see now as they apparently have FH6 to work on first.

This brings me to another question because I'm heading home now and all I've been thinking about was jumping back on Forza Motorsports. Is there a full-fledged career mode? Anything similar to PC2 will you start out slow and build your way up through the classes?

Unfortunately, not really. They started us out in Touring cars and before long were tossing supercars at us like jolly ranchers.
And the "career" is mainly just pick a car and do this 3-6 race championship. Not the worst thing ever I guess but surely not the best.

The champions cup added in update 21 gave us some more curated motorsports inspired races. Some of the motorsports based features tours were well put together as well in my view, though those are still being slowly added back to the game. It will take some imagination to view them as a career mode though, you will have to decide how to progress through them as the game just treats them as separate series of races, some unlocked by previous ones.

Speaking from experience, the Forza Motors model is freer than GT7 because you can get racing right away in any car available, from hot catch to LMP/Indy/F1, and cars are not expensive/hard to get, especially now that the FOMO is dead. In GT7 I was practically directed for 40 hours or so to play in a certain way (unlocking menus, cars, tracks, etc.)

It's too bad that FM's XP model was undercooked and then abandoned. Honestly, leveling to 50 didn't accomplish or felt anything special and was kind of arbitrary. And the game overall lacked embellishments (unlike the aforementioned GT7).

You kinda have to make it work - there's enough variety in terms of series and restrictions to work your way up. The trouble is it's lacking any structured progression. And some of the showcase cars are somewhat underwhelming (like, seriously, the Ford GT again? It was the FM7 hero car, I don't feel particularly compelled to revisit it).

The anniversary series are great though.

There's still hope

That looks like it's this:

FOMO isn't dead until all cars are available to buy in the showroom and rent in Free Play.

Just because the tours are returning doesn't mean it's eliminated entirely, because if you sell or remove a tour reward car, you're never getting it back. That's still FOMO, because you had your chance, yet you threw it away.

And with Microsoft's bent on AI in recent years, watch FM come back but it's a dystopian AI-sloppified version of Forza Motorsport or something.

You know, the more hours I put into GT7 (and I'm loving it in general, with caveats), the more appreciative I am of FM in its current state (mainly on PC), particularly on the driving experience with a controller.

I may do a separate thread about it or comment here about FM and GT7 similarities and differences as a player of both.

FM23 may have done many things wrong, but it has also done some things right.
Among them, the most important is the feeling of playing with gamepad, which IMO are by far the best available.

Knowing that it's not a sim, nor does it pretend to be, its physics are quite good.

My biggest complaint is that the AI is very inconsistent. There are races where the leaders are impossible to catch.

Personally, the fact that you can't disable the AI car modifications is also something I really dislike. I want to race against stock cars, and they won't let me.

The career mode was practically nonexistent when the game was launched. After one of the updates it improved including endurance races and mandatory pit stops.
The problem is that there's no sense of progression it's very poorly structured.

Finally, in terms of car and track variety, some from previous Forza games are missing, but it's still excellent.

With a few quality of life tweaks it could become a great game.

But I have almost lost all hope that Microsoft will give a second chance to Turn10.

While the situation for the game isn't looking super promising, the organized community is still plugging along like we have done basically every single week since FM1, although some leagues are seeing numbers drift away a bit. Plans at most leagues are to continue into the future as well, although some will be investigating whether PMR is a viable platform for inclusive racing.

We are still able to pull 15-18 for our Sentra Cup we are currently doing though. Ours is built kinda vaguely inspired by the real-life Canadian Sentra Cup series and have very limited tuning (only swaybars, brakes and diff, and tire pressures of course) and it's a pretty excellent little race car. It's surprisingly sharp for a FWD car so it's good for crossover moves, and the draft is super strong with it once you hit 5th gear.

I did several of the liveries for this season.

My own:

Cockpit Japan with chameleon stripes:
Sentra Cpit.webp

Mr. Sparkle from The Simpsons:
Sentra Mr Sparkle.webp

I wanted to do the orange/white Unisia Jecs livery but the guys didn't want primarily white cars and Forza's color thing can't really make fluorescent orange anyway, so I tried changing the color palette up and I'm actually kinda happy with how they turned out even though I was doubtful the colors would work:

A Bathurst R31 Skyline inspired one:
Sentra Bathurst R31.webp

And a Zexel R32/R33 Skyline one:
Sentra Zexel.webp

Not sure the retro ones really work though, as the shape of the car is so different to the R31/R32.

Our other resident painter made a pair of team liveries, their own team runs the Nissan Genuine Parts livery, and they put a twist on the Sahlen's livery after painting the real-world Sahlen's livery for 10+ years now:

won a Chevron B16
The Chevron is a really cool little car, and it's really good that it's available for everyone now. It's a very unique driving experience as none of the other vintage cars are like it really, giving you a bit of the lightweight and crappy tires vintage prototype experience but without the big power numbers of cars like the Ferrari 512S, so it's really comfy to drive for all skill levels. It also has interesting engine swaps that are inspired by engines that the car actually raced with in it back in the day. Sometimes it seems like the vehicle team didn't put much effort/thought into some of the upgrades/swaps for some of the cars, but this one was clearly made with some love.

I know it's a leaderboard car when upgraded, but I think that spoils it a little bit and it's better stock. It would be a great car for them to make a spec hopper with, but unfortunately I doubt that's going to happen at this point, especially since it's not an autoshow car.

One of the best quality and most interesting/meaningful additions to the game, which made it even more of a shame it was condemned to FOMO obscurity. Unfortunately it's locked behind Nurburgring stuff now, which some people will go "eww" at and probably never bother with...

I'm curious where is the best place to find leagues for FM23? Joining some weekly leagues really enhanced my experience with GT7. I still find plenty of entertainment in FM23 without leagues but it may be something I look into in the future.

The Forza Discord and Reddit really. Most leagues nowadays use Discord, partially because of its ease of use, and partially because it can hold more people in a voice chat on the Xbox than an actual Xbox party, so it's pretty mandatory. Then, from one Discord you can usually network to some of the other ones.

It can be tough to find one that lines up with your schedule and interests (unless you just like GT3, NASCAR, or Indycar, those are everywhere) but it's by far the best way to play these types of game and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone looking to get some more life out of the game.

We aren't allowed to post links to Discords/other forums here but if you decide you want to get into it down the road and remember, you can shoot me a message and I can probably help direct you towards one of the ones I know about. Same for anyone else.

Check out the RacingView app (a telemetry app for Forza) and within that app there’s a bunch of community servers and leagues in a recommended section.

I run some casual racing every Monday. We have about 8 regulars but match into public lobbies which tend to remain clean.

So im doing the T/A championship and i discovered a anomaly, both AI cars has no collisions (i drive the dodge btw). There was 2 times earlier this year when my car didn't have any collision to other cars. I swear this forza sometimes....

I dunno if it happens in single player since I don't play it, but there is a bug in multiplayer that causes random cars in the lobby to lose collision/drafting physics and they just drive through each other like the lobby is set to ghosted.

It can also show up as a few other variants, where one car won't have collisions on their screen, but the other cars around them will see the collisions, and one where one car becomes solid granite basically and all the other cars bounce off of them (which is fun/funny). It usually happens when running several consecutive races in lobbies, more common at tracks added later in the game's life (Sunset Peninsula always seems to do it to us).

It's actually a really problematic bug for organized racing as the only sure fire way to fix it is to just make a new lobby. Extremely annoying that it's likely never going to be fixed now.

I can see that being incredibly frustrating for league lobbies, especially as you say there is no sign there will ever be another pass of bug fixes
