Fuji 750 impressions

I haven't been playing much so was quite pleased to get the chance last night. I decided to try the 750 in the Viper SRT10. Had a quick tune and did about 15 practice laps to get the feel for braking points and how the car handled (first time in it).

Since I was up to the full 750 I started every race in the back half of the grid. This caused absolute mayhem in the first corner. Whilst I would be judging my braking by the guy in front and making sure I didn't hit him, I would get rammed from the back by some guy who didn't even realise he had brakes. Out of about 5 races I ended up in the sand 100m past the run off three times because of this.

It didn't get any better as the laps went on either, everyone seemed to be quite content with flying in from 50m back and bouncing off the inside of your car (especially at the chicane).

I lost about 20s on every race due to spending time in the sand trap.

The Viper was an awesome car to drive, really fun. Wish I'd tried it earlier, but on Fuji it just seems completely out of place. I could keep up with most in GTRs even with limited practice, but as soon as you're nudged you end up upside down in a barrier on fire - as oppose to the slight understeer you get in a 4wd.

As far as I can see RWD can not compete at Fuji without serious risk of every race being ruined by some nob with no regard for sportsmanship.

Hi, I'm quite new here. I have to agree with most that punting is awfully harsh on Fuji races. I mostly use the Clio so it is difficult for me to recover when a heavy 4WD GTR hits me - and it happens all the time. It is possible to win with a RWD car though and it gives a lot of satisfaction. I manage times between 5:01 to 5:04 when the race is clean. Greetings to a guy named M.Schumacher from JP in a red GTR - awesome racing :)

Hi guys, im new here, and i would just like to thank you guys for all the useful info for GT5. I run my Amuse S2000 every night, im RubioVtec. I`ve seen a couple of you guys runnig under GTP_, and you guys are good. I find the track really nice, i love it, but im missing some pw for my S2000, i can get to 1st place every time before a complete lap but in straight, but after that they totally kick my ass. My car has excellent handlind but thats under R3 and i tried to put S3 but grip is not same.... other than that, this is one the best race, and i hope to see you guys on the track. RubioVtec.

Im afraid thats just how the Amuse is with the new points system, nothings you can really do about it. It handles fantastically in this class but gets absolutely creamed on any straights. I've been using the Viper/Tuned alot recently instead of it because it seems more balanced overall, its still not the fastest on the straights with my set up, but handles better then most and usually gains enough lead in the last sector to stay ahead on the straight at least up to the line.

Welcome to GTP :)

Thx Dragonistic, i was afraid of that. I like the GT-R but i love Honda. I miss those days in Suzuka, i used to win a lot there. Guess ill try a Vette or something like that.

Well i took my first major victory today on this event, i've won before but this time felt special. The ONLY FR car in the event, a Dodge Viper/Tuned, although some MR cars were there, 7 GTRs and a Mines were the main opposition. Starting 6th i didn't think i had that much hope, i got a great start and managed to keep up into T1, the usual mayhem was more subdued and most got through clean leaving me in 7th. I then proceeded to carve through the pack with my max downforce during the long sweeping bend putting me into 4th. Then during the final sector managed to work my way into second, however one particularly quick GTR was well ahead 4 seconds by now. The chase was on and by the beginning of lap 3 a full 2 seconds were still left to gain. Luckily i was on form as he seemed to fade slightly through the first sector, i passed him on the curve and held him off until the final sector where i pulled out just enough to give me the win by 0.08 over the line as the charged up behind me.

I usually start first at Fuji and when I do, a brake perfectly for the first, hard, corner and I always get rammed off into the gravel trap. I don't think the update had any effect on the rammers, I just think they used it as and advantage because they'll know that loads of people will be online at the time of the update.

I've only ever had a few amazing online races. The others were just people ramming each other offroad and driving in the opposite driection to the track.

original posted by BLITZ187 : "I was racing Fuji last night and these guys from the GTLM squad kept driving their cars into the pits every lap??? What the hell is that?? some sort of cheat?!?! cuz it seemed as if they didnt get penalized for anything... and just cruised through ... but I cant imagine its shorter or anything... very weird... "

hello everybody, first, please excuse my english:)

then just want to say that the pits way ,was for fun with friends...a kind off challenge with gtlmsqd and gt5net 's members, it gived more spices...
at each pits we get 4 sec penalitie:)

ps; what a strange reaction...cheat:scared: ...if you ever seen us drive..it's not logical:sly:
see u on tracks

My new name for T1 on Fuji is "The Muppet Show"

It's gotten to the stage where I don't even bother trying to avoid other cars anymore. There's no point since, if I slow down even slightly, I get punted into the far wall. Since I adopted this approach I've found I'm actually doing better and not at the expense of any other drivers either - 9 times out of ten I'm just ploughing through ghosts anyway.

On the down side some of the noobs seem to have worked out that if they come screaming up behind my GT on the inside at a corner exit they can tap my inside rear wing and send me donutting into the apex. I suppose the silver lining to this cloud is that this would seem to demonstrate the ability to learn simple tactics, which suggests that, in time, they might even learn how to drive :sly:

I had never put much effort into Fuji before the update, but now that Suzuka is gone, I have put all my time in here. Here are my long-winded :ouch: observations.

1) Love driving the track. Good variety of turns, long straightaway can be a bit boring but makes the racing good because of the drafting.

2) The T1 race carnage is annoying. I lower the points in the car down to 745 and you usually start in the top 5 with the Clios and Ferraris. The GTLM and GTR (and other AWDs) are very quick off the line so you can usually run it in deep and get around relatively unscathed. If you're not in the top two or three by T1, you are going to get punted AND you can see ghosted cars passing through you (they would have punted you too). Damage would solve this problem with rear-enders suffering dearly for indiscretions, but we won't raise this issue that yet again.

3) After T1, the racing can be very good. The stickier tires allows punters to stay closer and challenge for longer, which means they have more chances to nudge/hit you off. If you're mid-pack, heaven help you but the racing is still fun if you have reasonably courteous drivers. I've bumped more than a few cars in front of me because the width of the track and different lines in some places seem to bring about more variance in braking points than Suzuka, so I'm as guilty as the rest...but it's not intentional and I'm getting better.

4) If you get punted, curse at the scoundrel once and then set out to clock in a good fast lap, track him down and pass him cleanly. There is nothing more satisfying, even if you only end up finishing 6th.

5) I was completely against AWD and had never driven one until Fuji 750. I was married to the Clio at Suzuka 600pp and did reasonably well except for against a few very skilled AWD drivers and a couple RWD Jedi. I've done a good bit of testing now at Fuji and found the GTLM to be the fastest RWD car and the most fun because of its finicky handling. The Vette seems to be a second off the pace and the Clio a little slower than that still (it's maxed out). After finally trying an AWD car after all this time, the GTR is just simply easy to drive and faster out of the slower corners. For me (not necessarily for everyone else) I can run laps nearly a second faster in the GTR than the GTLM. My best race without drafting was 4:58.5 and I saw MrCrazy777 run a 4:57!!! I ran a 4:59 that same race and was simply astonished. I also saw Niks and Bennfolds run sub-5s and a few others as well. My best race with the GTLM was a 5:02. I saw Japanese guy run a 5:01 with the Amuse. So, as far as I'm concerned, the GTR rules Fuji but it's just not as much fun to drive AWD. Of course, this only applies to me and I'm sure there are Master Jedi that routinely run 4:57s in AWD and RWD. I do some set up changes to the springs and dampers to deal with car balance, but I wish I knew more about working the camber and toe and other stuff.

6) There ARE courteous drivers on Fuji 750 who are fast and fun!! We need more out there and then the racing would be fantastic! So come on out. I'll try it for another day or two and then head over the HSR and see what's happening over there.

I'm impressed if anyone actually read all this!! :) If you have any other recommendations for cars to try at Fuji or tips for fast driving, please suggest so I can go out and try it!

Lately I've noticed that the punting on the first corner right at the start is a lot less if you can manage to get way down on the inside of the corner. I try to do that and brake early. I'll be going really slow through the corner, but the majority of the pack is still stuck back there running into each other so it works out alright.

Give the standard GT06 a try, I've been creaming the LM's around there - complete opposite from suzuka.

The Viper/Tuned serves me well, im chasing down GTLMs and about 80% of GTRs. The top GTR drivers though i just can't match, fastest so far i've done a low 5:01 from second chasing a GTLM and being held up by about 2 seconds at the start thanks to a punter continually knocking me sideways (good job im a drifter to :))

I've managed to finish fisrt with 2sec lead with my tuned F40 with no ABS, pro physic, all aid off, on the straight, I was accelerating faster than the GTRs when in 3rd gear. its only down side being turbo big lag in low rpm

I like the EVO X Tuned. It is faster in the tight stuff, has better brakes than the GT-R. But it is lacking top end. I have many top five, fare amount of podium's and a couple wins.:)

Porsche GT3 at Fuji. Let's go PD, bring it to us. Amazing how close they got the whole driving experience in the game...

My punting record would be close to 70% now.
Every race, I get punted at least once.
It's crazy.

Everybody should be ghosted so the **** drivers can't use the proper ones as walls and barriers.

What does everyone have against AWD cars?!?!? And I always see people say that NOOBS drive AWDs.... thats just BS... I love driving AWDs... RWD is nice and stuff and challenging to drive but I just prefer AWD. I'm not a Noob.. been playing since GT1 and drive pretty good IMO.... but I just prefer the AWDs over RWD... dont know why just preference... Just because I like to drive AWD doesnt mean Im a noob or that I cant drive RWD...... so I dont get why that always gets associated with each other... just like the pad user vs wheel user question... WHO CARES... just do what you like and play however suits you....

AMEN to that.

people are angry b/c the AWD cars have better grip in tight corners and keep getting underneath and bumping people off their lines. not all drivers do this but i see it more times than not. I dont drive the AWD class, id rather challenge myself with the Z06 or the S2K. It makes winning a race that more satisfying

Great Video cmpinberkeley. I do not understand why those other cars moved out of his way? Why didn't they just ram him so they wouldn't get passed? They could either just pull right in front of him and he would be forced to bounce off the wall and lose time or just give him a good bump in the turn. I guess these noobs have never played our realistic driving simulator.

finally see what everyone is sayin about the punting on fuji. up untill yesterday i thought it was alright, but yesterday i was on for about 2 hours and i reckon i completed 1 race due to people just bumping and using you as a break. im not innocent of this, as i reckon none are, but this was blatantly obvious. even those who seem like better drivers seem to have lost their cool with those that punt on purpose and seem to be punting because they see it as the only option to fight in this race. or something to that effect. and thats my 2 cents.

Ghosting all cars would make a pointless race. It would eradicate the skill passing the cars in front - all you would have to do is drive straight through them. Whats needed is proper damage physics and a real penalty system, instead of the BS we have now.

GT-R and Punters city. Was running in 1st place ... on the last corner, when BAM! A punter rammed me off the track from behind. I get a shortcut penalty and he gets off with NO penalty. Total BS!

I generally get good races on Fuji 750 it's odd, managed to pull my first under 5 minute race time in my Viper this morning and my best free run lap is 1:37.458 (Viper). Proves you don't need a GTR or GTLM to do well (my GTLM best is under 1:37, i refuse to use a GTR). But the racing itself was good, managed some great overtaking moves and even got some thrown back on me.

I hate Fuji, I hate Fuji, I hate Fuji, I hate punters, I hate punters, I hate punters, I hope they delete this event, I hope they delete this event, I hope they delete this event.
[/Impressions of Fuji]

Doesn't the pit lane run parallel to to start/finish straight? How does that work? The only thing I can think of is that you're out of the way of the punters?

It does run parallel, but taking the shortcut only gives you a few second penalty, after that you accelerate to top speed without any problems
